Chapter 430: Muyang’s wife was bullied

It seemed to her like every week something was picked from her week schedule by the universe to go wrong for her. Right now, the big emergency was that the Phoenix news journalists had been denied permits to cover the Asian economic forum. Even Chi Lian could not believe the magnitude of this news.

All the media houses in the empire had been granted permission to cover the forum. Why was phoenix news suddenly being thrown out. What was so special or not special about them? They had also already paid for tickets for the conference, what had gone wrong?

"Does any of you know what happened?" she asked all the members of the news team.

A couple of heads shook back and forth but all of them indicated the same thing, they had no idea what had happened.

"This is bad, this is so bad." Gu Xixi said and she groaned. "It’s just as bad as the spring gala mess, the forum is attended by representatives of all nations in the Asian continent like ministers, important business men, economics professors. We can’t be the only ones that don’t have a live coverage of the conference. This will reflect badly on us and the news team."

Loud voices joined Gu Xixi’s panicked one, all of them saying the same thing, that this was bad.

Chi Lian banged on the table three times and all eyes in the room turned to her.

"Stop panicking and tell me where the problem originated. Yesterday we were on the list and today we are off. I need to know who is charge of the press at the conference. Who does that individual report to and who does that one report to. I need an accurate picture of the entire chain so that I can find out at which point it broke. Go, go, find me answers."

She dismissed them so that she could find answers on her own. Only a rival television television network could do this and her first suspects were HTV. If they thought this could stop her then they were dead wrong.

"T4, please try and dig around, see what you can find."

"Yes host."

In the meantime, she had a phone call to make. The conference was bound to have security and who better to provide security for foreign dignitaries than the minister in charge of security for the empire.

She dialed his personal phone and waited for thirty seconds before it was answered.

"Miss Chi." the minister said.

"Hello Minister Su, how are you doing today?" she greeted him cheerfully. Her voice was all sunny as if she was calling to give him good news. Minister Su was not fooled by this cheerfulness.

"I will be better if you are calling to talk about those strength enhancing serums. You received my email, read it and yet you are yet to get back to me. I am beginning to get impatient."

She stood up from the chair, leaned against the table and crossed her legs.

"I am still considering what price I am going to name for the serums. I also found your demands to be quite heavy. You cannot expect me to provide you with one hundred serums a month, these are not cabbages that can be grown and plucked from a garden at any time. The process of synthesizing the ingredients is complicated and acquiring the ingredients that go into even one serum is costly. I can provide maybe ten serums a month. And your offer to buy out the research is even more impossible."

"Why, we can pay you handsomely." he replied.

"I know that, even if I demand for one hundred billion or one trillion the royal family will approve however this implications and the potential of this research are too great to be given up easily. Moreover the research does not belong to me, I simply fund the researcher. I have no right to sell it or other researchers will stop coming to me for funding and we both know that I am business woman first, I like making money and the researchers are a walking breathing pile of it."

"Hmmm." the minister answered. "This is not the end of this matter." he told her.

"Oh, I know but my answer will not change. I have a lot of kids to feed, my family is very large." she answered. After seeing what the serum could do neither the minister nor the emperor would curb their their greed to own the technology behind it but as long as they knew their limits then all was good. They had a symbiotic relationship, it had to remain that way. "I do have approval from one of my researchers to sell a paper of hers though, notes on..."

"We will take it." he cut her off with this declaration.

"You didn’t let me finish." she told him.

"We will take it." he said again, with more determination in his voice. "Don’t be too greedy when naming the price."

She smiled and chuckled, "I am not a greedy woman Minister Su, all I do is for the development of our empire. My husband will handle the negotiations for the serum and the research paper, please contact him tomorrow. By the way, for some reason my phoenix news team has been denied permission to cover the Asian economic forum. I wonder if you know who is in charge of the forum affairs, specifically the press."

Minister Su remained quiet for a while and she thought that maybe he had hung up on her. She took the phone away from her ear and she looked at the screen, the call was still active from what she could see.

"Hello." she said. "Are you still there?" she asked.

"I am guessing that this is the real reason why you called me." Minister Su told her.

Chi Lian sat down in the chair again and swung herself slowly from side to side.

"Minister Su, why do you always assume that I have an angle? I called you to talk about the serums, this is just a coincidence."

The minister chortled because this was a blatant lie, it was harmless but it irked him.

"The affairs of the economic forum are under the ministry of finance, I can access the name of the individual in charge of press affairs for the conference but I cannot be of much help after that. All ministries run independent of each other in the empire, I am sure you know that. But if you are having any issues in relation to the conference then the best person to talk to is your husband. He is one of the main speakers at the conference. Frankly I am surprised that you came to me before talking to him first."

She slapped herself lightly on the forehead, how forgetful!!! Her hubby should have been her first go to person.

"Minister Su, thank you for all your help, send me that name however because I might still need it, bye-bye."

"Hmph." was the minister’s last response.

Chi Lian hung up quickly and dialed Muyang’s phone.

"Husband, I think I am being bullied." she whined when he picked up.
