Chapter 426: Pear scientific park
In the cold town, on an area of about fifteen acres of land, a construction project had been going on in full swing to the surprise of many. For close to one month an a half now, the few residents that were still left in the town would pass by and linger around the boundaries of the site. They would just stand there and stare, while wondering what kind of weird looking building was about to be constructed.
They also asked themselves who was crazy enough to actually construct something on such a large piece of land in a town that had been basically declared uninhabitable by the rest of the empire.
Most of the elderly population in the town did not expect this construction to yield anything. This was not the first time that some rich individual sprung out of nowhere and decided to build here but eventually most of the construction was abandoned half way through the job. This town was filled with many such unfinished buildings. They often referred to them as ghost buildings.
The new construction had become a source of gossip for the residents of this town. When they gathered in the billiards hall or the one and only hair salon in the town, they discussed it.
When they walked to the only convenience store in the town, they discussed it. When they visited the one and only tiny hospital in the town they also discussed it. And when they saw the prison guards who rented rooms from some of the townspeople and ate food from the only restaurant in town, they would be bombard them with questions about the owner of the construction site.
This town had one of everything, from schools and hospitals to a grocery store and restaurant. It was such a quiet boring town where everyone knew their neighbor and gossip was always quick to travel.
For this reason, when Chi Lian showed up with an army of bodyguards accompanying her that morning, the news spread wide and far very quickly that the owner of the construction site had showing up.
As the foreman walked her around the site the number of people hovering close by increased. This was the era of smart phones so her pictures were taken and quickly spread around among the residents.
T4 was aware of all this because there was a drone hovering in the air above and keeping an eye on the townspeople. Chi Lian’s hearing was also quite sensitive and when she wanted to, she could focus and listen to conversations of people at a small distance away. The people of this town had no filter, they said whatever they wanted and they were loud about it.
"She is so young, are you sure that she is the one?"
"The foreman is addressing her she must be the owner of the weird building."
"How do you knw that he is the foreman?"
"Some of them eat lunch at my restaurant so how can I not know. I hope that this time round the construction is a success because it might be the hope we need for our town to be revived."
"I have already made offerings to Buddha and said that prayer ten times. How can a town like ours exist in the capital? It’s a shame."
"Tsk, tsk, why construct such a big building only to abandon it later. These young people are so wasteful. She could have just renovated those buildings but she had to tear them down, all for what?"
"I hope it’s not one of those shopping malls with discos that will keep us up all night playing loud music."
"Grandma, it’s not disco but night club. Why are you still living in the eighties? And who in their right mind can construct a shopping mall so close to a prison. I think it’s another prison."
She ignored their opinions and shut their noise out. This project needed all of her attention right now.
"How long do you estimate the entire project is going to take. I want to move in before the middle of the year. If you lack laborers then hire some more because I was expecting you to be further along than this."
"Sorry boss, we would be much further along but we run into a few issues. We sorted them out as soon as possible and we are catching up. Some of the workers had also gone home to celebrate the lunar new year but they were only gone for two days maximum. The wages we are earning here are too attractive for any of us to mess around." the foreman explain to her.
"Have you hired people to clear up the orchard?" she asked him.
"I am thinking of hiring some of the locals. They come around a lot to check on the site and the workers. The prison guards and the police often come around too for some reason. For them it’s mostly done at night, I think they are afraid that a prisoner could escape and disguise himself as one of the workers at night."
"Have you hired security for the site yet? I don’t want to hear cases of theft of building materials."
He shook her head and scratched his ears. "Some of us sleep here at the site and those who work the night shift are always around. This town is also relatively safe boss, we have not heard a single case of theft yet."
Having walked around eighty percent of the construction site, Chi Lian and her group handed back the helmets to the foreman and left.
Meanwhile, at the university where Muyand decided to go suddenly, in the cafeteria, he was sitting with other professors who were about to have their breakfast. While they got their food, snacks and drinks from the cafeteria, Muyang unpacked his home made breakfast slowly.
Yichen put down his tray and he kept a close eye on what Muyang was unpacking.
"You can smell a newly wed man from a mile away." the vice principal said. "He is the one with the home cooked meal."
"Then don’t ask for a bite of anything." Muyang responded.
"One, two, three, four swiss rolls, bro, are you really going to eat all that? Why don’t we divide and conquer."
Kang Yuze and Huang Bolin laughed at Yichen.
Muyang opened the hot flask of coffee and then Yuze and Bolin lost their smiles.
"Brother, sharing is caring." Yuze extended his cup.
The vice principal pushed Yuze’s cup away and he replaced it with his. "As the elder at the table, I believe I should be considered first."
Muyang watched them argue over his break fast for a minute before smiling wickedly and telling them, "My wife personally cooked this meal and she said I should finish everything. "
It sounded like a joke but they watched Muyang eat everything, leaving only crumbs behind. He did not even display one sign of discomfort after eating up such a large meal.
As he walked away, Yuze asked the others, "Where did he stuff all that food?"
