Chapter 422: The invitation

The first thing she thought about was the possibility that it was an invitation to a party. But who was holding a party so early in the year?

"Bear can we pick this up later?"

"No, we have only two weeks left to release our first issue of the magazine or we will have to push again. I have hired writers, creative designers, editors, photo copying machines and so many others things. We have spent money, now we need to earn it back." bear was insistent.

Chi Lian had taken the file off her eyes and she was looking at her phone. She was reading an email, in particular this email had been sent by a Princess Clementine of the American empire. The princess had extended an invitation to her to attend the Starlight ball.

Chi Lian kicked her shoes off and curled her body as if she was preparing to sleep.

"Bear," she said, "Do you know anything about the starlight ball?"

"Ugh!" Bear made a face as if something had left a bed taste in her mouth. "It’s a ball thrown every year by Princess Clementine of the American empire. I attended it once as a date for an old friend of mine and I was so out of place. The royalty there were so uppity and they drew a clear line between themselves and the commoners. On the upside I got to make many connections because it’s attended by a lot of wealthy people. That in my opinion is the only reason to attend it."

"So it’s not worth attending." Chi Lian mumbled. Her eyes were drifting off slowly against her will."

In her mind, she heard T4 saying, "No way, you have to attend that ball and have your picture taken with American royalty. The peep star has to go international every once in a while."

"Why are you asking about the Starlight ball? Are you doing a story on it? It attracts a lot of celebrities every year but only those who are well connected get a chance to attend it. For people in the entertainment business an invitation to the starlight ball is highly coveted because they get a chance to meet potential sponsors and investors."

Chi Lian twisted her body to look for a more comfortable position .

"I received one." she told Bear.

"A what?" Bear asked her.

"An invitation to the starlight ball."

Bear jumped on Chi Lian and shouted loudly in a shocked voice. "What? You got an invitation to the Starlight ball!! How and why?" In her voice there was obvious shock and in her eyes, a multitude of questions.

"Eh." Chi Lian looked at Bear unappreciatively. "What do you mean by why? I am a beautiful and successful woman who planned a spring gala festival that has been praised by the international media. I am also married to one of the most handsome and wealthiest men in the world. Are those reasons not good enough to get me that highly coveted invitation?"

In her books, she was simply awesome and her awesomeness was being recognized.

Bear snorted and Chi Lian pushed her off her body. When Bear laughed, she was laughing at Chi Lian’s puffed cheeks which were making her appear quite similar to angry toddler.

"Hey, you big bear, are you mocking me?" Chi Lian hissed.

"Obviously not." Bear stopped laughing and she said. "I am just amazed at how much confidence you have in yourself. I think the invitation is a good thing but I also think it will be wise of me your business manager and protector of your beautiful image to poke my nose around first and find out if this invitation is genuine.

I don’t want you to take a flight all the way to that empire and be turned back humiliatingly at the entrance. If this is a prank, just imagine the egg that will be smeared all over your face when you are on the cover of each gossip article because you over inflated your own value."

Bear stood up, picked up a few files from the table and organized them. Then she told Chi Lian, "If I can’t get your husband on the cover of the magazine then I want your brother Chi Rui.

He is a young, handsome and rich CEO. To top that off he is dating the only princess of our empire and he has also never been interviewed by any media house to my biggest shock. Not even phoenix television has ever hosted him as a guest on any show. Random surveys recently conducted by the marketing team indicate that there is interest in him and his story. I think he can qualify to be the first feature person in the magazine. Also, you should pick a name for the magazine already. I can’t keep calling it ’the magazine."

Chi Lian gasped, "Bear, that’s it. We can call it ’The magazine’." she jumped up from the chair and she explained, "Not a magazine but The magazine. I think it’s unique and it will work for us.

Just imagine this, a random person is talking to a friend and they say ’hey, have you read the latest issue of the magazine?’ His friend asks which magazine and the other pulls out our magazine out and says, ’The magazine." She looked at Bear expectantly, hoping that she would see were she was going with this.

"That sounds like an Ad." Bear replied.

"No, it sounds like The Ad." Chi Lian laughed. "Did you see what I did there?" she asked bear.

Bear laughed dryly, "Haha. I think we should stick to our original idea of calling it Phoenix magazine. It will be simpler this way for many people to understand who it belongs to this way."

Chi Lian pouted and she fell back on the sofa.

"Please resist the temptation of posting anything about that invitation online until I confirm it’s intentions and authenticity." Bear said this as she was leaving.

Left alone in the office now, Chi Lian mumbled, "I don’t post things anymore." She had been so well behaved when it came to controlling what she posted. The last picture she posted was from the night before the spring gala when they were designing that stage.

So why did Bear sound like a mother cautioning her troublesome child to stay out of trouble.

She went online to search for information about the Starlight ball. Despite all that ’I am worthy of the invite’ nonsense she had been spewing at Bear, she was indeed curious why a princess she had never met was inviting her for a ball she had no idea about.
