Chapter 406: Contingency plan
Chapter 406: Contingency plan
Her phone was ringing non-stop throughout the entirety of her journey to the Phoenix building. This was not her first time arriving at work on her motorcycle so she was allowed through security without being stopped.
The moment she entered the elevator, she called Muyang back because he was among the people that called her. He had called her twice.
"Hello, Muyang." she said when he picked up.
Immediately he asked her. "Are you okay? I saw the news claiming that the singer you wanted has jumped ship? What can I do?"
"I am okay, I just need to handle this right now. I don’t think there is anything you can do right now. We were all blinded, I don’t think any of us saw this coming." she told him.
"What kind of contract did she sign?" he asked her.
"One that she is going to regret breaking." The elevator arrived at the twelfth floor where the stage for the gala had been set up. When the doors opened, she saw a large number of people in the room.
She could see the panic in the room, many of them were on the phone explaining the issue to one person or the other.
"Has any of you tracked Moxi down?" she heard Gu Xixi yell.
Some people shook their heads and others answered no.
"Muyang," she said, "I am going to have to call you back later. I think I will be late tonight. If this drags on for too long then I might have to sleep in the office."
"Do you need to come to you?"
"No, stay with the children. I have to go now, bye bye."
She hung up because a few employees had noticed her and they were coming her way. Most of them had looks of relief on their faces. Gu Xixi was one of the relieved individuals.
Wenli was here too and this surprised Chi Lian because she was not supposed to be working today.
"Boss, Boss, boss....." different voices called to her.
She raised her hands and crossed them and they all quieted down. "I will not understand if you all yell at the same time. From now on I need anyone that talks to me to be quick and precise. One minute of my time will be allocated to each person. If I point to you, you talk."
"Yes boss." they answered.
"Start." she pointed at someone.
"Boss, Du Moxi is nowhere to be found. We need to come up with a contingency plan otherwise we are fucked....sorry for the language but the situation calls for it. We are so fucked."
She looked at the small crowd and said "everyone that is asking about the contingency plan raise your hand."
Five hands went up.
"I am going to deal with that plan so all of you who are worried about it go back to your work. Make sure that the rehearsals, outfits and props are perfect. Keep an eye on all our other performers and make sure that we do not lose anyone else."
Those five people walked away hurriedly.
"You, go." she pointed to another person.
"Boss, two of the sponsors for the gala have pulled out because of Moxi’s issue. They are also demanding that we reimburse their investments."
"Talk to the legal team and then the accounts department. If they want to pull out we cannot plead for them. All of you who are here for that reason can now leave."
She was left with seven people, "Next, you." she pointed at a female employee.
"Boss I have a list of potential artistes that could take Moxi’s place."
"That’s not necessary, I will handle the replacement." she told her. "Get back to your job and worry less about this. I have it handled."
It looked like three other people had their own lists of alternative performers because they left.
"Gu Xixi, your turn. Please explain to me how nobody noticed that Du Moxi was missing all day. Look at the time for crying out loud, we have lost hours already. What have you all been doing?" she yelled slightly.
She quickly calmed herself because just as much as she hated being yelled at in public, she imagined that others were the same.
"Boss, I am so sorry, I should have paid more attention and stayed on top of everything. Moxi’s assistant has been loitering around the dressing area all morning so we assumed that Moxi was here. Usually she prefers to do her rehearsals alone at night when you are gone. We had no idea that she had disappeared."
How could Chi Lian blame her under these circumstances?
She sighed and asked her, "Is anyone from Phoenix entertainment here? One of their representatives should be here explaining the situation to us."
"Your brother came by earlier boss and he left in fury. I think they were also caught unawares."
Chi Lian sighed again. Her brother was probably just as furious as she was. This anger could wait until the day after the spring gala though. Moxi would surely learn her lesson.
"How has Moxi’s attitude been lately?" she asked Gu Xixi.
"Lazy, pompous and terrible. We all know that she is famous but she has become a diva all of a sudden in the past few days. We bent over backwards to accommodate her, we changed her outfits and tailored them to suit her preferences. We even took dresses from other female artists because Moxi wanted them or felt as if they would outshine hers."
Chi Lian was wondering if this was the same woman that performed at her wedding. She had been friendly and cordial. The person being described right now was not the Moxi she knew.
"T4 find out everything that Du Moxi has been up to lately. I want to know who she has been talking to, who she ate breakfast and lunch with. Who went into the bathroom with her. If anyone so much as breathed in her face I want to know it."
"Yes host."
She then told Gu Xixi "Make sure that nothing else goes wrong here. I am going to handle the opening act. Moxi was going to perform one song so all I need is one killer song to overshadow her songs. A song that will be on everyone’s lips tomorrow. "
"Can such a thing be done in a few hours?" Gu Xixi asked her.
"I have to make it happen." she replied.
