Chapter 374: A valid reason

Chi Lian wanted to curse; if she could smoke she would have a cigarette in her mouth already because the way he was looking at her intensely was nerve wrecking. She could not help thinking that if people knew how heavy the words ’we need to talk’ are, they would use them less often. They had a finality to them that made one think they were headed to a guillotine.

She was suddenly feeling the urge to go to the toilet because her stomach was all tied up in knots. Did he have to look at her as if he could see through her?

Had she made any mistakes without realizing? Did she leave evidence of her actions somewhere and he found it?

Was her tail finally caught? Why wasn’t he saying anything for crying out loud!!! Was it his intention to make her sweat first?

"Host, be calm, you are sweating for no reason. If he has dirt on you, simply use the evaporation gun and eliminate him from the universe without anyone knowing the better."

"Your solution to everything is to kill first and ask questions later." Chi Lian responded.

She gulped and took a sip of her espresso with her hands shaking slightly however she had to do something to regain her wits and calm her nerves.

She put the coffee cup down slowly and asked, "What do you want to talk about?"

Minister Su reached into the inner pocket of his suit and she resisted the urge to pull out the evaporation gun and do as T4 suggested. When his hands came out from his suit, it was with his phone.

’A phone!! She exclaimed in her head, does he know how close I came to eliminating him from the universe?’

She watched him slowly scroll through his phone as if he had all the time in the world. He may have time but she did not.

"Minister Su, I have an urgent meeting in thirty minutes which I cannot reschedule. Can we please be faster about whatever this is?"

Minister Su stood up and approached the table then he handed her his phone. "This is you, right?" he asked seriously.

She looked at a picture of herself on her motorcycle early in the morning near the cold prison two days before Zhangye was killed.

"Yes, I believe that is me in the picture." She handed his phone back to him and he went back to the sofa in which he had been sitting previously.

Then she glanced at him with a nonchalant expression and asked, "Why do you have a picture of me in your phone? Are you stalking me or do you have a crush on me?"

By lightening the mood and acting unbothered, he would not be able to read much into her reactions.

"Ha-ha, very funny." Minister Su responded sarcastically. "Just tell me why you were there at that particular time. The prison cameras caught you approximately five times. You own a television network so I am sure that you watch the news and you know that a prison transportation van was involved in an accident."

"I am aware; however my business in the area has nothing to do with anyone."

"What if I insist on knowing?" Minister Su questioned her with scary look in his face and an intense aura which was meant to frighten her.

’Does he know something?’ she asked herself. But she had not made her presence in the area a secret because she never entered the prison with her real face.

"If you insist on knowing then I might as well tell you because it will be public news soon anyway. I recently acquired these three buildings and all of this space around them. I think this used to be a middle school back then. Anyway I intend to turn the place into the best and biggest high tech biological laboratory in the empire. I am aiming for top five or possibly the best bio lab in the world but it’s going to be a long road to get there. Is your curiosity satisfied now?"

"No," minister responded, "I am even more curious now because no man or woman wants to do business in the cold town."

"They are foolish I believe because the cold town is one of the most secure areas in the empire. The cameras, trained guards, ferocious dogs and there is a military base and a police station close by.

The buildings are cheap and in the summer, the view is gorgeous. Most importantly laboratories need a large quiet environment and the Cold town provides all this. Show me a better place in this empire for me to build my laboratory and I will change my mind immediately." Her explanation left no room for doubt that she had researched the area carefully.

"All valid reasons." Minister Su replied. "I guess you have satisfied my curiosity. I will be taking my leave then."

He got up and walked to the door, leaving just as arrogantly as he had come.

"Wait." She called.

Chi Lian was not ready to let him go just yet because he had badged into her office without any formal appointment to question her. It was her turn to get answers.

"Do you need anything from me Miss Chi?" he asked. One of his hands was on the handle of her office door. With one turn, he could open and leave as he pleased.

"Minister Su, you came in here and questioned me randomly without any explanation and now you want to leave. I believe our relationship is no longer that of any other ordinary citizen of the empire and someone in authority. You owe me an explanation."

Minister Su scoffed and she thought he would refuse to answer her curiosity.

"I have a friend who was interested in the victim of the prison van accident. When I realized that you were in the area some days before the accident I thought you might know something about it."

"A valid reason." Chi Lian shook her head. "Sorry I could not be of better help."

"Hmm." He replied.

She had her answer now; he and his friend were looking into Zhangye’s death. Fortunately, she left no shred of evidence that she was involved in the accident at all. Still, a little caution never harmed anybody.

"T4, dig into the investigation files of Zhangye and find out everything."

"Yes host."

"By the way, we should schedule another meeting to talk about the serum. I have been busy lately which is why you have not heard from me. We need to know more about the serum and what your price or demands are. Send them to my email and we can schedule a meeting."

She happily nodded because this was wonderful news to her ears. There was some progress on that matter finally. She was beginning to think that he had no interest in the serum.

"Oh, minister Su, since I have your email, I am going to send you a gift. I hope you will be happy with it."

Minister Su looked confused but he shrugged and left.
