Chapter 367: Who is bear?
Chapter 367: Who is bear?
"Hey sis," Chi Zimo who she met leaving home waved and greeted her from a distance.
"Where are you going?" She yelled back.
"To join the grandmas at the shop where we can watch the Chu’s being shipped off to prison together." He replied.
She shook her head and entered the house. The emperor’s courts reminded her of high school, if kids were fighting in one classroom word usually spread fast and others from different classes would come running to watch the fight.
Ninety nine of those who came to watch the fight never bothered to stop it, rather they egged on those who were fighting.
Almost all those who had gathered to watch the members of the Chu family being arrested and their valuables shipped off were not well-wishers. They were simply there to gloat over their misery. Some of them had been offended by members of the family, some were jealous of the family while others simply enjoyed watching those more fortunate suddenly fall.
The Chi’s, Jun’s and Wang’s were in the first category, those who had been offended by the Chu family.
"Miss, you have guests waiting in the living room." The butler informed her.
She nodded and went in that direction. "Where are my children?" she asked him.
"They went with your grandparents to the shop; they said they would be back in time for lunch. Will your guests be joining us?"
"I will inform the kitchen if necessary." She told him.
It was time for her to finally meet the long awaited bear; everything she had heard about the woman was a controversy of mismatched stories.
When she asked old tiger about bear’s personality, he said, "She is great, super great, a little too opiniated but great." He emphasized the words great with a wide grin on his face which was too unnatural so she decided to ask someone else.
She went to Piggy and asked him about bear and he said, "Bear is the best, just watch out for her fists though, she has a mean right hook so if you ever get into a fight with her watch out for that."
That was all he said and it was not useful unless she got into a fight with bear one day. So she went to see Squirrel, the most talkative of all her men.
"Bear is a very sensitive person, especially when it comes to spider so whatever you do, don’t mention spider around her. If she asks you anything about spider just say you have no idea or change the topic, other than that, she is easy to get along with. All in all she is the best."
"Why do you all keep calling her the best?" she had asked him.
Squirrel looked around wildly and he replied, "She just is."
Everywhere she went she got the same answers and all of them were positive reviews of bear with most of them referring to her as the best. To her, it seemed more like they were all afraid of bear, but why? This all made her eager the woman who frightened the wits out of more than a dozen grown men.
When she entered the living room she half expected bear to look like an actual bear or a large woman with a male wrestler’s physique despite having seen pictures of her.
The real woman however was petite, with bright eyes and short black curly hair tucked behind her ears. Even though she was wearing stilettos, she was two inches shorter than Chi Lian. The most unique thing about her was the sharp tips of her ears which would have made perfect elf ears if they were just a bit longer. Overall, bear was adorable in appearance that she wanted to pick her up and hug her.
Chi Lian took a sit opposite bear and smiled. "Good afternoon," she said.
"Good afternoon," bear replied confidently, "You have had a busy day." Bear indicated to the television which was showing the exclusive news on phoenix TV.
"Yes, it has been quite a day. I would say a good one for us in the business but it would be insensitive of me in consideration of the events." Chi Lian answered.
People had died; she could not celebrate small things like high ratings in such a time.
"You are less cynical than I expected." Bear said boldly. Most people usually kept their opinions about their boss to be to themselves, not her apparently. This was why old tiger called her opinionated.
Chi Lian laughed softly and said, "I had no idea that I was supposed to be cynical."
Bear shrugged and answered, "I have met my fair share of people in the media business especially the big bosses. Most of them are either cynical or greedy. You are neither of those which makes me wonder if you are a good business woman or just a very lucky person."
"What makes you say so?" Chi Lian liked money but she was not so greedy for it. Greed led one down to a path of evil and corruption.
Bear placed three chess pieces on the table as she said, "You started three companies at the same time a media company, an entertainment company and a toy company. Each of these companies has been very successful and yet you don’t seem to be contributing to their day to day work except for the media company." She tossed two of the chess pieces onto the floor.
"This tells me that it is the one company which matters most to you however there is more to a media company than owning a television network but you are doing nothing else. Now this tells me you are either not greedy or you are a short sighted business woman. Where is your daily newspaper or magazine?"
"You are talking about publishing." Chi Lian answered.
"Yes, I expected more ambition from someone who started three companies at once, especially the entertainment company. Nobody goes into that business for fun; it’s always for the money. A newspaper or a magazine would be good for your television and the entertainment company. Why don’t you have one? What is your highest priority right now" Bear asked with fire in her eyes.
Chi Lian nodded, some of bears words sounded more like criticism than observation. "Bear, how old do you think I am?"
"Uhm, twenty two." Bear replied unsurely.
"What are most women my age doing?" Chi Lian asked her.
"No offense boss, but you are not like most women." Bear answered.
Chi Lian wondered if bear realized that she was already calling her boss which meant that she had already accepted to work for her no matter what her answer was.
"You are right I am not like most women, at my age I have two children to care for and right now they are my highest priority. Expanding the business is tempting but I have to consolidate my foundation. My companies have been in existence for less than a year so far. None of them can even make the top one hundred list of successful companies in the empire. Before running, I would like to make sure that I do not wobble. To do otherwise is foolish in my opinion. Am I wrong?"
