Chapter 340: Uncle

Chi Lian was not aware of all this. She was just arriving at home, tired, hungry and sore.

"Welcome back young miss." The butler greeted her cheerfully when he saw her.

"Thank you." She replied and yawned. "Is anyone at home?"

"Your brothers went to work and all the elders went to tea shop to discuss your engagement party."

His words spiked a memory in the back of her mind, her mother saying something about an official meeting between the families.

"Shouldn’t they have gone to a hotel?" she mumbled.

"The old madam said that we should not give the money to someone else when our family has the perfect spot for holding the meeting." The butler explained even though her question was not specifically aimed at him.

She was too lazy to upstairs so she just went to the living room and threw herself into the sofa face first.

"Miss," the butler called her with some hint of worry in his voice.

"I am going to sleep for a while, do not let anyone wake up before two hours elapse. I need a massage."

She had gone to bed late, risen early and her body had just been flung against a wall. She deserved to sleep comfortably for a bit.

The butler, being the wise man that he was excused himself and locked the door with a key after exiting the living room.

He got his radio and said, "The young miss is very tired and she is sleeping in the living room so nobody should knock on the door before two hours are up. Qi Qing, come and see me right now."

When Qi Qing showed up the butler told her, "There is a spa in the phoenix building, go with the driver and return with a masseuse. The young miss has said she needs a massage."

Qi Qing did not delay, she left the house immediately.

The butler picked up his radio and said, "Old tiger come and see me. It concerns the young miss."

The butler tended to tread with caution when it came to old tiger and spider. They were not servants in the house but they worked for the young miss.

Old tiger showed up quickly, looking around to see Chi Lian.

"The young miss is very tired and she wants a massage; I am going to arrange one of the rooms in the Northern wing for this purpose. Can you help me buy anything used for massages? We need a table, small mattress, white towels, sheets, scented candles. We can check the internet for anything else."

"Alright." Old tiger left to go shopping.

"She will be sleeping for two hours maximum, we have an hour and thirty minutes maximum so try and hurry up."

Grandpa had certainly been whipping the butler into shape. He was beginning to understand that it was his duty to anticipate the needs of the family and cater to them even when they were vaguely said. That’s how a butler lasted in his job. He was enjoying life in the Chi family and he certainly wanted to last here.

The young miss had said she needed a massage but she did not specify anything else. It was his job to make sure that the massage services would be available if needed.

He strode into the kitchen and found the chef preparing dinner already. There was a small portion of ready mapo tofu on the kitchen counter and he almost failed to draw his eyes away from it.

He licked his lips and reluctantly looked away.

"Chef, prepare some light snacks for the young miss and fresh juice. She will be hungry when she wakes up so it’s better to be ready for when that happens."

"I will do it." The sous chef answered.

"Okay." The butler looked at the mapo tofu one last time and exited the kitchen with his thoughts on all the Sichuan cuisine dishes he had eaten in his life. He wondered if the chef could be convinced to prepare an entire Sichuan cuisine meal one of these days.

Away from the house in the tea shop elders from two different families were happily sipping tea and congratulating themselves for coming to an understanding.

On one side was mama Chi, Papa Chi, grandma An and grandpa Wang. On the other side were Muyang’s parents and his grandparents.

Little monk had gone to work with Chi Wei but Mei-Mei stayed home with her grandparents. She was currently sitting on top of a table shaking her head and dancing along to the childish cartoon music on television.

She had a fistful of peanuts and she kept forgetting about them because every time she clapped her hands, they would go flying in different directions and then she would look around for Chi Zimo and call ’Uncle, in an adorable voice.

Chi Zimo would come running to replenish her supply of peanuts.

The customers who had to pay two hundred fifty yuan for a small plate of peanuts were itching to beat Chi Zimo up for this wastefulness.

Others were wondering why the Wang’s, the Jun’s and the Chi’s were sitting together cordially. Why were they smiling at each other as if they had a reason to celebrate?

The answer was that they did and it was because they had just settled on the date of Muyang and Chi-Chi’s official engagement.

A few people were straining their ears to catch bits of the conversation.

"This should have been settled on a long time ago. In fact, they should be married by now because they have children already." Grandpa Wang commented.

"I do not agree Shiqing." Grandma An said, "If they got married a long time ago we would have missed out on helping Nuo with Chi-Chi’s wedding preparations. We were not there when Nuo got married but we will be there for Chi-Chi’s wedding. We have a lot of time to make up for."

Mama Chi grabbed her mother’s hand and smiled gratefully.

"In-law, after the engagement the children should register their marriage. I recently met some gossipy women in the park when I was exercising and they were discussing Chi-Chi and the children in a negative way." Old madam Jun suggested.

"Who are they, give me their names." Grandpa Wang shouted sternly like an exploding fire cracker which attracted the attention of all the customers.

"Stop shouting." Madam An scolded him and then she went on to say calmly. "In-law, share the names I will deal with those gossipy women personally."

At the counter, Chi Zimo who was closest rolled his eyes; did everything have to be a war with their grandparents?

He looked at Jiang Aiguo who was wiping a table and rolled his eyes again. Why was this guy forcefully showing up here to work every day as if he was an employee?

Another thought that popped into his mind was the question why a meeting between two families was taking place when the bride and groom to be were absent.

"Uncle," Mei-Mei’s adorable voice called him again.

"Yes, coming."
