Chapter 327: Her guts paid off
Chi Lian rolled her eyes and punched Muyang’s shoulder softly. In her mind she wondered what had made Muyang come to this conclusion. Did he think she was a fragile as a cotton stuffed doll which ripped apart easily if one pulled too hard?
Looking at him with her hands crossed across her chest she asked him, "Jun Muyang, have you forgotten that we both took the gene editing serum? However strong you are, I can easily match you. We have been working out a lot and learning how to control our strength. If we have not hurt the people around us, then we certainly won’t hurt each other."
"Chi-Chi," he called her in a voice that begged her to understand him.
"Do you want to fight it out and test your theory on how fragile I am?" she asked him with fierceness in her eyes. "Should I find something to shatter as well so that you believe my words?"
She looked around his office for anything unimportant that she could destroy with little or no consequences.
Muyang noticed how determined she was to prove her strength so he pulled her back to his chest and said, "You don’t need to prove anything , I was just worried but if you are sure that we can both handle it then who am I to argue with that."
She was playing with a button on his shirt and she said, "Next time talk to me before your mind goes on a crazy trip like this. Do you know how scared I was that we would have to spend the rest of our lives sleeping in separate bedroom like one of those couples which get divorced or hate each other but stay together for the sake of the children? "
"I am sure you would forcefully come and occupy my bedroom if I tried to pull such a stunt." He answered.
"No, you are the one who would drag me back into your room kicking and screaming." She retorted.
"Says the woman who asked me out on a date first and wooed me, I have all the evidence in my phone in case you have forgotten. You used to send me pictures of yourself on a daily; I wonder what happened to that. Do you not treasure me anymore now that you have me?" He asked her with a little smirk on his face obviously relishing the memories of how their unusual relationship started.
"Ha! You were easy to woo." She blurted out.
Muyang feigned hurt and he pouted. "Are you calling me easy Chi-Chi, I feel so used right now?"
She laughed because he looked really funny when he was pouting and his cute face made her want to kiss him. His brown eyes were sparkling despite the exaggerated pout of his lips. She realized that she had a question that she had always wanted to as him but always forgot.
"What made you decide to date me by the way?" she asked him.
Muyang took her hand and playfully bit at her fingers, nibbling one at a time.
"Mmm, tell me, what was so attractive about me that made you drop all your defenses and get closer to me."
He abandoned her fingers and said, "First of all, apart from you no woman has ever actually asked me out on a date."
Chi Lian popped herself upright because his words were too unreal and shocking for her.
"Ha! No way," she said loudly. "You were the nation’s second most wanted bachelor. How is it possible that none of these women asked you out? You teach in a university full of female students, you attended gatherings with daughters of fellow aristocrats all the time and I am sure more than one woman in these groups wanted you. Heck, it’s a well-established fact now that you have children and are in a relationship and yet online polls and comments are full of women that still want you. What you are saying makes no sense."
It was like sending a child into a chocolate or candy factory and they came out with a clean face and empty pockets.
Muyang shrugged and said, "That’s what everyone assumes but truth be told, most of those women are scared of me. I give them one look and they run off as if I am the big bad wolf."
"Oh, that’s your demeanor." She told him. "Usually you give off cold vibes; even I was taken back at first."
"Those women from aristocrat families never asked me on a date, most of them just batted their eyelashes and mentioned cooperation between my family and theirs. I am a wealthy man, I had no interest in marriage and women so mentioning how excellent we would be as a couple because our families are compatible is not the turn on they thought it would be.
And then you have the ones I met only once but they would show up to my company with bento boxes they claimed to have personally cooked as if someone had told them I was a starving child.
They never even knew if I was allergic to anything before bringing that food. What if you used sea food spices and killed me? And they would come in with files and paperwork on behalf of their fathers, calling me ’brother,’ as if we had a prior relationship. All of them are the same; they will give anything to be better than each other. You should see them at gatherings measuring each other’s outfits, dropping hints about the cost of their dresses and shoes or jewelry. They laugh together and then turn around to gossip and scheme against each other. It’s tiresome and I wanted no part of it.
It was quite maddening to be frank. At least you did your research before sending me food; I know Wenzhe was your little informant. And no matter how cold I was to you, you never backed down once."
She laughed as he mimicked the way women would call him ’brother’ in a small voice trying to sound feminine.
Muyang smiled as he looked in her eyes and said, "The biggest reason why I fell for you though was your heart. You adopted a child you did not know was yours and chose to raise her as your own. You run head first into a dangerous situation when that almost bomb went off which I found to be brave and sexy although I couldn’t understand if you were selfless or foolish. "
"Hey." She complained and smacked his arm when he said, ’foolish.’
"I know, you are not foolish, you are just a genuinely good person. It’s what drew me to you most of all, my parents were not selfless like that when I was a child. My mother was too busy with her work and my father...well you know about him already. I love my mother but I think she was a little bit selfish when I was growing up. She would come home once every two months. I don’t know how many times I begged her to stay but she would say the empire needs her; royal duties come first before family.
She rubbed his head and ruffled his hair a bit then said, "Well she is here now, and so am I. And I for one am glad that I had the guts to ask you out on a date."
"Can we go on one tonight, a date?" he asked.
"Of course," she responded excitedly, "we can go to that indoor go karting place Lili has been raving about so much. She even sent me pictures to show off; it’s our turn to show off. We should bring little monk along since he is here and if we have fun, we can come go back with Mei-Mei another time."
Muyang, who was thinking dinner, drinks and then home to his villa swallowed his next words.
