Chapter 300: Trendsetter

"Young miss," the butler saw her first. "You have returned." He said with a smile.

Christmas music was still playing loudly in the house and the smells of different foods were wafting all around. She could not help herself; she sniffed the air twice like a dog.

The funny part was that Blackguard was doing the same exact action as her, his nose was up in the air and he was sniffing happily. He slipped away into the direction of the kitchen. While he was a harmless sweetheart, his size still frightened the maids and the chef. It would take only a few seconds for them to send him off with something to eat as soon as possible just so they could get rid of him.

Blackguard knew this and he took advantage of it daily wholeheartedly.

"Has anything happened while I was gone?" she asked the butler.

"Nothing really, we have received some visitors. The grand emperor, dowager empress, minister Su and a friend of his. Three of the old madam’s friends have also come with children.

Some young masters and misses from the families in the courts have also come. Everyone has gone to the parlor to enjoy some refreshments."

"In that case I will head upstairs and change into some decent clothing." She said.

If she was going to meet respectable people then she needed to appear respectable too. And it was a party so she needed to look classy and beautiful. They were not the Chi’s of Muyu slums anymore, they were the Chi’s if the emperor’s courts.

"Oh young miss," the butler called out. "There is a lady waiting for you in the living room, she said to tell you that she has brought some clothes for you."

"Clothes." She said to herself. She had not ordered for any clothes. Was it another surprise from Muyang?

She went to the living room and saw a familiar face that she had only seen once. It was Chian Ximeng, the owner of Ctar luxury clothing brand, the one T4 called a fox. But why was she here?

While the Chian’s did have a residence in the emperor’s courts they had not had any interaction with the Chi’s.

’’Miss Chian, I am surprised to see you here." She said as she slowly walked over to the sofa opposite the one Chian was sitting in.

Chian Ximeng sat upright, and confidently replied, "I heard you are throwing a party so I decided to boldly offer my services as your designer for the day."

Chi Lian frowned a little bit. "Why" she asked. "If I wanted a luxury dress I can afford one and I do not believe that our relationship runs deep enough for you to do this. In fact we are practically strangers." She stated without hesitation.

They had only met once and it was not under the best circumstances. It was presumptuous of her to assume that she would be willing to wear whatever she had brought over. People like her never did anything for free, they always had an aim.

"What’s the catch?" Chi Lian asked her.

Ximeng smiled, and then she laughed. "You are reacting exactly as I thought you would. I have been told that you are a very cautious and candid person in everything that you do. So I will be truthful with you, as you know Ctar only deals in luxury clothing but good designs don’t fall from a tree and neither do influential models. When I saw a picture of you from your vacation I was inspired to design some mother-daughter clothes."

She brought her phone out and showed Chi Lian the pictures. "Of course I copied some bit of your designs and added some of my own. I had fifty outfits made and priced them at fifty thousand Yuan each as a test run. I used the picture of you and your daughter as my models in the shop and the clothes were sold out in two days."

Chi Lian folded her arms across her chest and crossed her legs. With a frown on her face, she said, "You did not get my permission for portrait rights and you did not pay me even after copying my designs or using my image."

The designs were not hers, T4 provided designs from his world and she chose and made alterations before the clothes which were unique to her were produced by the machines in the virtual farm using the cotton or wool from there. But that did not mean anyone could just use them randomly, she invested money into the virtual farm to get all those things. Nothing was free.

"Which is why I came prepared." Chian reached into her bag and came out with a cheque which she handed to Chi Lian.

Chi Lian reluctantly took it and looked at the amount; it was seven hundred thousand Yuan.

"I know you have your own businesses and you make a boat load more money than this. But remember, this is your share from only fifty clothes. I have to pay workers so I can’t just give you half of what I made from that sale. I believe that this is fair."

"Fair!" Chi Lian responded with a scoff that obviously meant this was crap. "The design was inspired by me and the model you used was me and my daughter. You are lucky that I have no greed for your money otherwise I would be suing you right now.

However, since you have willingly come to me with this information which I had no idea about I am willing to let things go. From now on, do not use my daughter as your model; I do not want her face anywhere. I am assuming that you are here because you want us to form some kind of partnership."

Ximeng nodded eagerly, "Yes, "she said, "My job is to study trends, lately, I have noticed that a good number of twenty to thirty five year old women are copying your style of dressing. I looked into it, for some it’s because you are beautiful and rich. Others it’s because you landed the unobtainable young master of the Jun family so they figure perhaps your success because of how you dress and carry yourself. To some you are simply a new young fashion icon to follow. Whatever you wear is highly sought after lately and I would be a fool not to tap into it.

As long as the clothes I produce are seen on your body and stamped by you, I believe that they will fly off the shelves quickly. You or I can provide designs, I alter them and we take a few photographs for the Ctar social media pages. If you can agree, we can negotiate and come to an understanding." she proposed.

She sounded confident but Chi Lian could also smell a little desperation from her. This woman was determined to stand out in her family, probably because her brothers expected to inherit the family fashion house and she wanted to prove that she was equally or more competent.

"Hmm," Chi Lian answered as she pondered upon this new deal. On one hand, she was not desperate for money but on the other hand more money was never a bad thing. She would not have to put in the work personally except for taking a few photographs. The money could be used for charity, like helping the unemployed orphans old tiger gave a helping hand to.
