Chapter 298: A coming storm

Muyang frowned heavily when she said it, it had crossed his mind and he intended to look into it tomorrow if there was no answer by the end of the day today. It never occurred to him that she would notice the hiccup as well and want to settle it personally.

However if she was truly right and someone was meddling then it had to be someone as equally influential as his grandfather and there were not many people around like that. If that is what was happening then it was better for him to look into things first.

"Maybe I should look into it first." He suggested.

"Why, is there something you are holding back." She asked curiously.

He shook his head and answered, "I am just trying to be cautious, we still don’t have many answers. Have you found what which women from families with some wealth gave birth in B city at that time from the list I gave you?"

"The list has been trimmed down to twenty; I am waiting to see which ones buried a daughter that year. I should have answers before the day ends. Your brother said he would give me a list of names before noon so in a few hours I should begin matching the information."

While they talked, their eyes did not once stray away from their daughter who was ripping apart an empty gift box with the help of the husky Popcorn. The loud sound of wrapping paper being ripped apart made Muyang wince because he knew once that one was finished, Mei-Mei would look for another one.

He was both right and wrong, when she was finished with that one; her hands went for the Christmas tree.

Muyang rushed over and forcefully carried her again. "No, daddy down." She complained.

Ignoring her protest, he kept her in his arms and asked her, "Are you going directly to the hospital?"

She nodded and said, "I can be gone and back within under ten minutes. Can you hold down the fort?" She was asking in reference to the children in the house. It was not just theirs; other children had come for the party. Fu Jui had come; Lili had brought her two sons, which is why Muyang was she suspected Muyang was insistent on carrying Mei-Mei today. He did not want Wuxi sniffing around her. Sally and Yifei had also brought their daughters.

The house was filled with cheerful children’s laughter that were being supervised by some of the maids and Mei-Mei’s nanny. At the moment, they were confined to that playroom engaged in different games and gouging themselves on snacks.

"I am sure with all the adults in the house we can keep the little brats in the house under control. Go with old tiger, I will feel better knowing that someone is protecting you just in case." He said.

She grabbed his arm and smiled at him charmingly. "Don’t worry; I am taking Black guard with me as well."

Quickly, she kissed him on the cheek and told the butler to call old tiger and Black guard. They all left the house immediately on foot.

In the emperor’s courts, in a private office in the residence belonging to the Wang family, a young man was standing humbly in front of an old man that was sitting in a large black leather chair. His eyebrows were scrunched up so much that the wrinkles on his fore head dug into his skin.

In the old man’s hands was a paper with the insignia of the hospital in the courts.

The young man was wearing his police uniform and his fists were tightly clenched at his sides. If Chi Lian were here, she would recognize him. He was none other than Wang Bolin, the youngest police commissioner in the empire.

The old man’s hands shook and the paper in his hands in dropped down to the floor. Bolin bent down, picked it up and placed it on the table.

"This...this...how true is this?" the old man asked.

"One hundred percent grandfather, I was alerted the moment the test results were released." Bolin answered.

The old grandfather banged his fist on the table angrily.

"Grandfather!" Bolin shouted anxiously. "Please take it easy." He said, his voice filled with worry for the health of the old man.

"It’s her, right? No one is this family is brainless enough to do something as destructive as this. Did she even consider the consequences of her actions? Who else knows about this?" he asked many questions furiously.

Wang Bolin shook his head and replied, "No one else knows, I had the test report intercepted and temporarily sent away everyone that worked on the test out of the country. However I am not sure how long I can hide the information for because the Jun’s are the ones looking into it.

The Chi family too, they are the ones who provided the DNA sample. They are an up and coming family but their strength and reach cannot be underestimated. Especially the girl, Chi Lian, from all my investigations, she is the one that pulled the family out of poverty somehow. In this year alone, she started three companies, owns a bakery and a tea shop here in the courts.

She also has a registered technology company that has not done anything so far. All in all she is impressive, not just her but her brothers too because she may have started the companies but her brothers are running them."

"What about her, what do you know_ _ _ how did she grow up? Did she suffer?" the old grandfather’s voice was trembling when he asked.

Wang Bolin pursed his lips; he was very hesitant to answer that question.

"Was it that bad?" his grandfather asked.

"Grandfather..." Bolin said hesitantly.

His grandfather laughed ruthlessly, "Even if I don’t say it, I will send Caizu to look into it and then I will decide how to punish everyone that was involved in the act of almost destroying this family. God help them all."

The old grandfather stood up from his chair and with the help of his cane, walked past Bolin and exited the office.

As he was leaving he told Bolin, "You said the oldest is your friend and you were invited to their Christmas party so in one hour, we leave. "

Alone in the office, Bolin fell back in a chair then he wiped the sweat from the back of his neck with a handkerchief from his pocket. His legs were still trembling from this very easy but scary encounter with his grandfather a former Army commander who tolerated no nonsense.

He knew that by revealing this information he had spelled doom for a lot of unsuspecting people but it could not be helped.

He got on his phone and called and called one of his men, "In the night, dig up the grave and take the body to a private lab. Do a DNA test and match it against that of my family’s. We need to make sure that this is solid before the storm comes."
