Chapter 248: A new fan
Chapter 248: A new fan
There was a ’for hire’ sign on the sled and that’s why Chi Lian decided to run in that direction. She was hoping that no one beat her to it.
"Chi Lian, slow down." Yifei shouted as she was panting from the fast pace she had to endure to keep up with Chi Lian.
"We are already here." Chi Lian replied with a laugh.
"Eh, how?" Yifei looked at where they had come from and where they were now. The distance may not have been exponentially big but still, it needed like two minutes and a half to get there.
They had reached in.....she looked down at her watch, one minute and twenty seconds.
"Wow, Chi Lian, you are incredibly fast." Yifei’s voice held a trace of wonder.
Chi Lian remembered that her body had been modified by the gene editing serum, her speed was significantly higher than before.
"I am very fit, I spend no less than two hours a day exercising." She answered with a shrug of her shoulders.
Yifei smiled and held up her thumb. "That’s why I said you are incredible."
Yifei found everything about Chi Lian to be incredible. She had money but she was kind and caring. She was hanging out with people like her and her husband who were not of her class. She was even sharing the snacks she brought for her children with her.
She was very beautiful and yet she was not vain.
Now she was also discovering that she was physically fit. How did she train her body to this extent and find time to work and raise her children and also exercise for so many hours? She did not even find one hour in the day to do one sit up.
If T4 could hear Yifei’s thoughts, he would probably raise his hands like an eager student in the classroom that knew the all the answers.
"Excuse me, how much do you charge for a ride on the sled?" Chi Lian asked the middle-aged man who was sitting beside it.
He was hunched over in his chair and rubbing the head of one the dogs which were circling him.
The man looked up at her and answered with a smile, "I have an electric sled and a manual one. Which one do you want?"
When he mentioned it, Chi Lian noticed the brown sled behind the man, it was dull looking. Certainly less flashy than the red one which was outstanding and caught her attention.
Common sense told her to take the electric sled but being the thrill seeker that she was, Chi Lian’s hands itched for the manually operated sled.
"Is there a difference in the pricing?" she asked.
"No, I charge five hundred Yuan for a one hour ride, the price goes up from there." He replied.
"So expensive." Yifei answered with shock in her voice. "Are you sure you want to do this?" she looked at Chi Lian and shook her head, signaling her not to do it.
"How cute, your new friend wants to save money for you. She has no idea that you spend that and more on the virtual farm per day." T4 said.
She could see him idling around on the virtual screen.
"Part of the money goes to the welfare of the dogs." The man told them.
Chi Lian looked at the lovely, gorgeous dogs which were surrounding the man. All of them were of the same breed, Siberian huskies. She could not help but wonder how he had come to own so many of them at the same time.
She had always wanted one of their kind as a pet in her old life. There was something about them that drew her, maybe it was their icy blue eyes. She didn’t know what it was but it made her love them.
If possible, she would ask the man to sell her one before they left.
"Just tell Muyang to get you one, he is a good negotiator and he is your man. Don’t men love doing things for their women?" T4 suggested.
"Great idea, send him a text." She told him.
Then she reached into her pocket and brought out two five hundred Yuan notes and handed them to the man.
He got up and whistled. The dogs got up and prepared for takeoff.
"Get in." he told them.
It looked like he had assumed that she wanted the electric sled and he was wrong.
"Mr. I want the manually operated one and I will be riding it myself, you don’t need to come along with us." She told him boldly.
The man looked at her as if she had lost her mind. "Miss," he said, "Manually operated sleds are operated by experts. You look like a city girl..."
"Mr.," she cut him off. "I may look like a city girl but that doesn’t mean I am an idiot. I will not risk my life and that of my friend carelessly. Both of us are mothers." She pointed him in the direction of the group of children who were playing. "I will return your sled undamaged and the dogs unharmed."
She smiled broadly, reassuringly so that the man could trust her.
He looked unsure but he had already accepted the money.
"If you damage any of them you have to compensate me, remember that." He emphasized.
The dogs were attached to the simple sled and Chi Lian took the reins. Before taking off she looked at Yifei who was shaking and holding herself not because it was cold but because of the little adventure Chi Lian was about to embark on.
She could not force Yifei to come along with her. She was used to doing such dangerous things, Yifei was not.
"Yifei, if you are scared you should take the electric sled, it’s much safer than this one." She suggested.
Yifei stubbornly shook her head and joined her on the sled. "What if something happens when you are on your own, someone has to go with you." She said determinedly.
"Are you sure? I will be okay on my own." Chi Lian retorted.
"I am sure, let’s go." Yifei’s teeth were chattering in anxiety.
Chi Lian laughed at the woman’s silly sentiment to protect her. She reached into her pocket and gave her a pair of air shield glasses and a thick scarf to wrap around her nose and mouth.
When both of them were properly covered up, she started the sled and the dogs took off at fast pace.
