Chapter 134: Fishing competition
"Me." She pointed at herself in shock. "Why would the assassin be here for me?’ she asked loudly. She had already counted herself out the moment he looked at the grand emperor. Why was she suddenly back in the equation?
"Shhhh!" Muyang said. When she rose her voice people turned around to look at them. "Lower your voice." He requested. "Have you forgotten that you foiled the rebel’s plans a few months ago? Or the role you played in the imprisonment of Hong Sian and there is your involvement in the rescue of Tang Siming and collapse of the triple eight gang. You are not without enemies my sweet angel."
Everything else that he said faded into the background when he called her sweet angel. Apart from calling her a minx, he had never called her any sweet names before.
"Aww, Yanger you think I am your angel." She said coquettishly, pouting her lips and blinking at him adorably.
"Concentrate woman." He flicked her forehead. "There is an assassin on the grounds; we don’t have time to waste. Let’s go and check the cameras, arrange more guards. I need to speak to the minister and warn the royals."
"Muyang wait." She needed to stop him from spinning out before he rushed out and ruined all her carefully laid plans. "I already have a handle on the matter, just concentrate on fishing."
"No," he refused angrily, "I will protect our family." He insisted.
"We," she held on to his arm. "We will protect our family together, and right now, there is nothing much we can do because the assassin is not on the grounds. We will handle it when he returns."
"The shifter is no ordinary assassin Chi-Chi." He said worriedly.
"And I am no ordinary woman Muyang." She said confidently. "I killed that mega snake in the forest on my own; I can handle one assassin that thinks he is a chameleon. I will prove to him that I am the chameleon killer."
"Chi-Chi." He said her name sternly.
"Heavy daddy, heavy." Mei-Mei interrupted the show down the couple was having with their eyes.
"What is it sweet girl, what has our fisher baby caught?" Chi Lian asked dotingly.
"Fish." Mei-Mei replied. Her little arms were sagging under the heavy weight of whatever it was that she had caught. The little girl was struggling and holding on with all of her strength. If Muyang had not been holding her tightly, she would have likely have fallen into the water with her catch.
Muyang held the rod and did the heavy lifting. The father daughter team finally caught a fish.
"Fish, dada, fish." Mei-Mei pointed in the water.
Looking down, the couple noticed that a large number of fish was gathered in their area. The fish were fighting for the bait Chi Lian had poured into the water.
"Ha! It appears that I underestimated your stinky bait." Muyang admitted.
"You have underestimated a lot of things my sweet Muyang." She kissed his cheek, opened the bucket and poured some more bait into the water.
The fish were excited that a few were even jumping up to gobble up the bait before it fell into the water.
"Fish, fish." Mei-Mei clapped excitedly.
A few people were starting the abnormal phenomenon in their area and the clever ones quickly shifted their chairs to fish closer to them.
Pretty soon, Muyang’s bucket was filled to the brim with dozens of fish but none the extraordinary size. Still, a lot of people were impressed with his fishing skills and some were taking pictures of his catch.
"What is going on over there?" The grand emperor asked.
"Must be someone with skills, do you want to go and take a look?" Old master Tao asked.
"Of course we should, we need to see who the lucky winner of our four million could be." Old master Huang said and the four old men walked to the area slowly.
"OH, it’s my grandson." Old master Jun said excitedly. His eyes went to the bucket which was filled to the brim. "Whoa, looks my kid is going to eat your money old men." He bragged happily. His eyes were gloating with victory over his friends." We should just end the competition now and cut Muyang his cheque. I will be happy to accept the money on his behalf."
"Not so fast old Jun, we said the money will be won by the individual who catches the biggest fish not the highest number of fish." Old master Tao said. "Now where is this miscreant of mine?" He pulled out his phone and called Tao Yichen.
He was not the only one making a call, old master Huang and the grand emperor were calling their grandsons as well.
The reluctant grandsons showed up and were each forcefully handed a fishing rod.
"I don’t care how many fish you get, just as long as you get one that outweighs whatever Muyang has." Old master Tao told Yichen.
"Take him down." Old master Huang told Bolin.
"You know what to do." The grand emperor told the third prince, "You are fighting for the honor of our royal family."
’It’s just a fishing competition, why are you all acting as if we are heading to war.’ The young masters wanted to say.
"Go and stick next to Muyang." Old master Tao shamelessly shouted at his grandson.
"Bolin, do the same thing."
"And you too third prince, don’t be left behind."
"You shameless old men, this is cheating. I don’t accept it." Old master Jun complained loudly but to no avail.
The four competing grandsons seriously concentrated on the task at hand, catching the biggest fish in the lake. They all had one opponent, Muyang.
This new competition between some of the golden bachelors of the empire attracted the attention of almost everyone. A few people were even betting money on the end result.
"Woo, go Muyang." Chi Lian shouted from the side lines. She had been evicted from her seat to make space for the golden young masters. She and Mei-Mei were busy screaming loudly from the sides.
"Daddy, daddy, best." Mei-Mei shouted with her limited vocabulary. Her little fists were wildly swinging in the air. In her pink swimming costume, tiny shades on her head and sparkling jade hair pins, she successfully managed to catch the attention of many people.
"Who is that beautiful baby?" a woman asked.
"Jun Muyang’s daughter." Her friend replied.
"Oh, you mean the anonymous golden doll." The woman said. "I heard that she takes milk baths, no wonder her skin is so fair."
Chi Lian whispered something to Mei-Mei and the little girl changed her chants.
"Uncles, Mei-Mei sad." She said.
"Yes, uncles if you win your little niece will be sad and cry." Chi Lian claimed.
Suddenly Huang Bolin and Tao Yichen lost their vigor and started fishing slowly and aiming for smaller sized fish to make sure their niece did not cry.
"Yichen, Bolin, don’t listen to her. This is cheating, old Jun tell your granddaughter-in-law to stop." His friends complained.
Old master Jun just shrugged and said, "All is fair in love and war."
