Chapter 350: Carnelia__, the queen of warrior reapers

As Scarlet packed up the many things and excess baggage which she imagined that she would need in the capital, Esong took a bath and Severus made a last minute to the underworld.

He handed in souls on Scarlet’s behalf and then passed by another palace in the underworld, one which Scarlet had never been to. This place was beyond the lush gardens of Lythia’s palace and deep underneath the ground, with an entrance that was hidden on the top most point of rugged mountain that was surrounded with endless red ocean waters. But the water bubbled rapaciously, like lava which sought an escape and destruction.

Half of the mountain was green and beautiful with a luxuriant rich grassland while the other half was literally a mountain of dry bones.

Severus hated this mountain, it made him uneasy because when the wind howled sometimes, the bones creaked and moved as if they were coming back to life. He unwillingly blinked his way from the top of the mountain, and went into the underground place.

The palace itself looked like a battle ground for warriors, filled with reapers who were fighting in every corner. It was not so much fighting as it was training, and the reapers who were involved were doing it willingly.

Despite being underground, it was bright down in the palace as if it was another world beneath a world.

Another part of the palace was a welcoming area for new warrior reapers and Severus went past it without giving it a second look. He passed by herb gardens, rooms filled will jewels, fire stones, armors and other things. It was a large palace and he had to blink about a dozen times before getting to where he wanted, the thorn room where Carnelia, the queen of warrior reapers and deity of fire sat.

Severus knew just where to find her, sitting on a literal throne of thorns. The eerie thorns slithered around like snakes which were ready to strike at anyone who dared to come so close.

Carnelia, as the goddess of fire looked exactly like a red burning hot flame. Her long faming red hair trailed all the way to the ground, rolling out like a welcome mat. Her eyes had a permanent strip of fire which was always glowing. Her favorite way to pass time was setting things on fire while munching on fist sized grapes that she got through trade with Lythia. She was a lover of gold and ruby jewels, the most beautiful and exquisite kind. She constantly had two sharp rings on both of her index fingers which she used to stab the grapes delicately before bringing them to her mouth.

When she saw Severus, she crossed her legs lazily, revealing her smooth ebony thighs and long legs through the red dress she wore whose slit trailed all the way to the small of her waist.

"Hound," she said lazily.

"Deity." he answered.

"I prefer goddess," she said, "It sounds more majestic than deity. Deity is old fashioned and dull."

Severus snorted and smoke escaped his nostrils. "Sure, goddess Carnelia." he said.

"Soo," she said lazily, "What brings a hound like you to my palace? I hear you have been desperate to see me for a while. Keep in mind that if you are here for a favor, there will be a price to pay for it."

Severus snorted.

"Don’t disrespect me hound." Carnelia said sternly and that long red hair of hers went up in flames that could not be extinguished.

The heat surrounded Severus, searing the little fur which covered his body.

"I apologize, goddess Carnelia, I did not mean to offend you. I am aware that there will be a price to pay if I ask for a favor. What I want is information about the hell fruits, not a favor."

Carnelia calmed down and the flames died down too.

The thorns on her throne however turned to look at Severus as if they possessed eyes and his question intrigued them.

"You are a male hound, or___" she broke off and giggled as she looked over Severus thoughtfully.

Flabbergasted, Severus uttered quickly, "Male, I am male."

If she wanted he could expose himself and prove he was no female hound.

"Calm down hound I was attempting to be humorous. But tell me, why is a male hound seeking for answers about a fruit that only female creatures of the underworld use? Isn’t it obvious to you that it’s related to fertility? This is common knowledge that everyone knows. Once upon a time, reapers could bear children and then a few went crazy, betrayed humans, subverted the order of life and death, and the goddess of fertility sealed the wombs of female reapers under orders from the god of life. The God of death was filled with rage, he stole seeds from the tree of life and nurtured them in the underworld with the hopes of restoring that which had been stolen from him, the right to have his own....uhm...let’s call them descendants. It has been many cycles but the fruit has yielded no fruits among the females. Unless you know of a pregnant female reaper. Do you know of one hound?" She looked at Severus with keen interest.

"No." He answered.

"You tell the truth." She said calmly, sensing no lies from his words. "Then why come all the way here in search for answers which you already have? Answers my sister can give you? Why waste my time hound?"

"My partner is a female reaper and everyday Lythia checks in on me to make sure that she eats no less than four of these fruits a day. Lately...." he stopped talking and sighed. "Thank you for your answers, I have nothing to offer but this jar of honey bred by bees that fed on a tree whose life is given by one of your fire stones."

The transparent jar of honey flew into Carnelia’s hands and she looked at it with interest unsealed it and used that long hook on one of her gold rings like a spoon. She scooped a small drop of honey and licked it.

"Mm, it’s good for making wine."

"Then I will bid you farewell goddess Carnelia, thank you for your time." Severus was polite to her, way more polite than he was to Lythia with whom he joked around often. He blinked and left that underground palace as quickly as he could, and when he got to the surface, he shivered due to the sudden blast of cold air. Looking at the skull next to one his legs which appeared to be smiling creepily, he frowned and said, "I really hate this place."

After he left the palace, Carnelia closed the jar of honey and transformed her appearance to resemble a human.

"I will be going out for a while, the hound thought he was smart by hesitating but he revealed something without realizing it. My sister has been keeping secrets."

A figure stepped out of the shadow of her hair on the ground. It was a man, dressed and armed like a grim reaper but in a red robe.

"I will make arrangements my queen."

Carnelia chuckled like an ancient witch as flames filled with life and laughter danced along her fingertips. "It’s been so long, my children should come out and play."
