"We will begin by slicing our two apples into small little pieces. If you notice, I have not taken off the peel and I am using red apples. I am also doing this by hand but I am sure that some of you are using fruit cutters because you want perfect square shapes."

The cutter was a small square shaped device crafted by Carolyn to cut fruits into tiny square shapes. She did this because Scarlet was always using her hands to cut for Justin fruit slices.

Lately, the cutters had different shapes, like rectangles, oval, star, circles, and other fun shapes designed for parents who wanted to convince their children to eat the fruits or vegetables they hated.

"Slice one lemon and add just one tablespoon of juice. I am using the table spoon because it’s convenient and it makes it easier for Justin to understand the measurements."

She mixed the lemon juice into the apple slices by hand.

"As usual, dry ingredients next, so, we take two cups of oat flour and add brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and baking powder. Mix these together and add buttermilk and coconut oil. Lastly, we are going to add Illa’s apple sauce. Apple sauce is one of those products that has been sitting on the shelf, untouched because we have never used it. Most of it’s champions have been mothers whose children were weaning.

She was specifically using apple sauce from which was home made, created right here in the castle. She had named it Illa after her baby sister because every time someone ate an apple close to Illa, the little girl would lick her lips and drool.

The nurses at the hospital normally gave classes on child nutrition because Scarlet did not want mothers feeding infants food. They also needed to know which foods children should eat first when it was time to start solids.

On the tv she mixed the ingredients together carefully and occasionally pushed away Justin’s curious head as he attempted to sniff the mixture.

"Which one of you bastards has a sensor attached?" he asked.

They looked at each other and then, away from him.

"None of us do." Ian said.

"We are watching with our eyes." Cedric claimed.

’Yes, we did not feel a single thing, it was just a light peck." Folsom added.

The others looked at Folsom disdainfully because he was brainless. Was it too hard to simply say, "No" and make an excuse?

"Back to business," Scarlet said, "Add our apple slices to the mixture and mix with your hands, not a machine. We want the apple chunks in there."

When that was done, she went through the usual procedures of lining the pan with a sheet, some oil and evenly spreading the apple oat cake mixture.

"Set this aside and let’s make a crumb topping for our cake using walnuts, oat flour, cinnamon and salt. Mix this together and add some honey. Cut one more apple into these thin slices. which Justin calls half moon slices.

Place the half moon slices on top of the apple oat cake mixture neatly. And in our second last step, place chunks of the crumb topping in the gaps of the cake on top. Into the pre heated oven our cake goes, to bake at three fifty for sixty minutes."

She sent that cake in and pulled another one out of the oven.

"As usual, I have a ready cake waiting because we can’t seat around waiting. I am sure we all have other things to do, so lets get a taste of apple oat cake."

She removed that cake from the baking tin, and started slicing. Justin who was up to his old tricks was already poking his head closer.

[I smell apple.]

[I smell oats.]

[I am drooling, drooling. drooling. somebody save me.]

Scarlet sliced many pieces and put them on different saucers before handing Justin a fork.

The assistant chef did not waste time in taking a large bite and stuffing his mouth.

And the viewers too instantly started commenting on the taste and texture of the cake.

[It is sweeter than I thought.]

[Yum, yum as always.]

[Can Justin chew slower please.]

[I don’t like oats so I am not sure how to rate this cake.]

Scarlet distributed the other slices and everyone in the kitchen got a slice.

"And there you have it, our cake for the day. Just because I have run out of time does not mean you should stop baking. As the BSTV workers packed up their equipment, Coral and Anna packed for them their to go cakes while Gertrude and others packed the cakes which were to be sent to the lotto winners.

"Slow down." Cecily told Scarlet, she was eating as if she was in a race with someone.

"I didn’t have breakfast." she said.

She had gone to the forest, settled the animals in, baked apple oat cakes and taken a shower before the show begun.

"Here." Cecily poured her a cup of cold milk from the fridge.

"Thank you." she said.

"What are we doing next?" Cecily asked.

"We are transplanting the tea trees from the green houses to the valley. It’s about eight hundred kilometers of land on which different varieties of tea trees must be planted. It’s going to take us a month at least to get it all done." she told Cecily.

"Mummy, ah." Justin opened his mouth, asking to be fed which she did without hesitation.

"Thank God more ex mecha warriors and their families are migrating over tomorrow." Cecily said.

Scarlet thought briefly about the old deity and she said, "Yes, we thank him." There would be no tea trees without her access to the underworld after all.
