Chapter 299: Perhaps, a breath of life

The grey star was a planet which had not received important visitors in a while. By a while, it was ten long years.

The emperor himself had not visited it in close to fifty years and only a royal envoy came every year in the first month with supplies and messages of pity and sorrows from the emperor for their losses, grievances and pain after winter. Everyone was used to this, it had become expected, after all, the grey star had nothing to offer the rest of the empire.

No energy stone mines, fertile souls, mecha warriors and their beautiful waters did not boast of edible marine life. Most of them mined and sold glowing meteorites which were encased in glass and used as decorative lights.

Others sold beautiful stones on star net, picked up along the shores or hand crafted by stonemasons.

When the blue star discovered edible food they had taken to their own forests but two people died after eating unidentified plants and the governor hurried to call the effort off. They were not the wealthiest but they were not desperate enough to turn into corpses either.

Most of the younger population left for the capital as soon as they were old enough to travel and had accumulated savings. Some found a way to survive but others returned, looking more haggard than when they left.

The governor would always say, ’at least we are alive.’ They could depend on royal hand outs and the sales of their shiny stones to survive.

This year, they had received some food and celebrated Christmas as well. It was not very lavish but more people smiled and were hopeful.

So, when governor Lancaster Bil’eal heard that the governor of the blue star had landed on his planet, he hurried to leave his mansion in the mountains and fly to the space port to welcome her.

He arrived in time, before the magnificent wings of the space ship opened. With a big clown like smile on his face, he waited to look upon the beautiful face of the only female governor in the empire.

When Esong alighted from the space ship, governor Lancaster’s smile faltered.

His assistant, Foura noticed and she pretended not to have seen this.

Behind Esong, others stepped out of the space ship as well, all large men and not a single female.

"Ehem, governor, we should greet the mecha king." Foura reminded her governor whose feet were glued to the ground.

"Right, greet." Governor Lancaster mumbled.

As he shook hands with Esong and the other men, governor Lancaster thought to himself that they were here on a rebuilding mission. It was a miracle that the death thunder army had been sent here to assist in rebuilding, perhaps, they were on a press tour. Even the prince of death was here after all.

Still, governor Lancaster took one last hopeful look at the doors of the spaceship, and his face lit up when he saw the vague smaller figure which was moving slowly and exiting.

That light dimmed when the figure became clearer and he recognized the mecha king’s small assistant Dez Mino.

Governor Lancaster sighed, and quickly forced himself to smile again as he looked back at Esong.

In all of his glory, in his mecha warrior uniform with a new long black cape Esong was amused that he seemed to be a tad bit unwanted here.

He shared a curious glance with his men who shrugged while Markay just smiled mysteriously.

"Your highness." Governor Lancaster bowed before Markay, humbling himself so much that his back almost broke.

"Governor Lancaster," Markey said, "Were you hoping for someone else?"

"No, your highness. Why would I hope for someone else when royalty graces the grey star?" Governor Lancaster answered.

"Rise." Markey told him.

The tall, thin strong Jawed man lifted his head up, and stood tall. He was like an electric poll, towering over them all by atheist three inches.

It was said that Governor Lancaster of the grey star was almost as tall as the buildings in the capital, which was a gross exaggeration.

"Were you hoping to see my wife?" Esong asked him.

"No.." governor Lancaster started to say.

"That’s too bad because I am here on her behest but since you are not interested in what she wants then I might as well turn back and leave." Esong said, slowly, with a small mysterious smile on his face. This reminded him of the situation in the green house when Oak and Bell were hoping to see Scarlet but he showed up instead and they frowned. This one too was hoping to see his wife, not him.

It seemed, he was slowly reverting to the role of the the side kick and her, the main hero.

"He was hoping to meet governor Scarlet, so was I. She is the icon of every woman and child on the grey star." Governor Lancaster’s assistant Foura said loudly from his side.

"I was not,.. it’s not what...I wanted to meet her governor to governor. No, what I mean.." Governor Lancaster’s face twisted as he struggled to express himself the right way. He did not want to come off sounding like a fan boy or weird guy that wanted to hit on another man’s wife.

"Stop teasing the poor man Esong," Markey chortled and he said, "We understand you so don’t be too nervous, governor Scarlet is an icon too on the blue star. She is loved by all young and old."

"People smile when they see her coming." Esong added to Markey’s words with a very proud look on his face. "You should smile too governor Lancaster, she sent me here on business. It looks like perhaps, a breath of new life might be blown into the grey star."

Governor Lancaster was stunned, he stood still and absorbed the unexpected news. Then, he tilted his head and looked at Foura whose hands were trembling slightly. "Did I .."

"Governor Scarlet said there is something good on our grey star." Foura said softly.

"We have something good on our grey star." Governor Lancaster repeated after Foura.

Esong watched the two who had taken his words, run with them and came to an understanding of their own.

"I don’t think that’s what you said." Markey whispered to him.

"Yeah, it’s definitely not what I said." Esong assured Markey.

Lancaster looked at Esong, more excited and happier to see him than he had ever been to see any government official. "Let’s go, and we will show you every plant and leaf that we have been collecting from every forest. We categorized them carefully, it’s not much but there must be something in there. And if that is not what she seeks, I will send the people into all of our forests to search for more." He spoke with such grit and determination which told Esong that the man was definitely going to do as he said.

"We can also send her meteorites, the ones which glow yellow, purple and recently we discovered a multicolored meteorite mine. We have attempted to turn them into house hold lamps like the ones the blue star sells on star net." Foura sold their products to Esong immediately.

"We can do the trade immediately..." Lancaster was grinning, and glowing.

Esong hated to break their hearts but if he didn’t stop now, a greater misunderstanding might ensue.
