Chapter 71 Drinking Poison

Chapter 71: Chapter 71 Drinking Poison

My surroundings seemed to still for a moment, like time had slowed down. I pushed my battered body forward, masking the look of pain and fear with an unreadable one.

When I got to where Damon was, my gaze moved from his before landing on the glass of wine. Without a second thought, I took the glass of wine, gulping its contents in one go.

’I’ve watched too many movies to be stupid enough to try to point fingers at Alpha Allison—someone with a prestigious and powerful background—while I’m nothing more than a low Omega. I would take the harm, then Damon would see through her scheme.’

"It tastes good," I said, before gulping slightly.

Damon stared at me with a furrowed brow, his eyes narrowed slightly. "Ember, that’s so improper. Do I need to teach you etiquette now?"

"No, Master... I was just thirsty." I shrugged my shoulders at him. I turned to Allison, whose face had turned pale as if she had seen a ghost.

Alpha Allison’s hand trembled, her eyes burning with fury. She shot daggers at me. But I widened my teeth at her.

’Even if I have to put myself at risk, as long as she gets caught, I have no worries. And maybe Damon could warm up to me and treat me better as his savior.’

I headed back to my seat; my body trembled. Even if I put on a brave face of facade, who wouldn’t be scared of drinking poison? And the fact that the drink had a spell that was supposed to make Damon forget about me made it all worse.

Was it going to tamper with my memories?

Alpha Allison forced a smile on her face. "It’s fine... it’s fine. She must really be thirsty. But it does show that you have been too lenient with your pet. She even has the audacity to misbehave in front of two Alphas." Her voice dripped with venom.

Damon’s face hardened. "That’s because I allow it. She’s my pet, not my slave. Don’t you know that pets are generally naughty? And besides, she has drunk it on my behalf, because I’m not a fan of red wine." He returned to the meat he was cutting.

Alpha Allison’s mouth opened wide, but nothing came out. She was too stunned to have recovered from it quickly.

"Oh, I see," she muttered, before walking back to her chair. She seemed to be lost in thought. When her gaze met mine, it reflected pure hatred, as if she wanted to skin me alive.

’Oh, that must have been the last poison she had.’

After Damon was done with the cutting, he handed it over to me. "Here, eat and add some flesh. I don’t want people to think that I’m starving you, as you look like a live exhibition of a skeleton." He clicked his tongue in distaste.

I took the dish from him. "Thank you, Master, for your help and your kind words." I plastered a fake smile on my face.

I dug into the food. I couldn’t help but wonder if Caroline and Lydia had eaten too. The food tasted bittersweet; my heart bled out for them.

I glanced at Damon. He seemed to have a strong prejudice toward the witches. But I can’t let him kill my sisters.

This only reinforced my belief that my action of drinking the poisoned wine was the best decision I ever made. All I needed was to make Damon feel guilty and grateful for saving him.

"Alpha Damon, will you be attending the Alpha’s gathering this year? I think it would be a good idea to have you there. I mean, you are the king of all werewolves—you should be revered by all. And there is a possibility of uniting all the werewolves together," she said with enthusiasm.

"Oh, is that so?" Damon asked nonchalantly, his focus on the food he was eating and me.

She tried to smile but failed miserably. "Yes, Alpha Damon. And I think that would be a good chance to announce our relationship to the world..."

Before Allison could finish her words, blood spilled on the table, spraying on the food.

My eyes blurred as my body convulsed. The mark on my shoulder burned so much that a scream tore through my throat.

Then it was like my body was set on fire, every vein in me burned hot, as if there were two powers fighting inside me.

Damon’s chair scraped sharply against the floor; the next second, he was already in front of me.

"Ember! Ember, what is wrong with you?" He shook me.

But what came out of my mouth was more blood. I winced as it felt like my chest was burning and constricted. I gasped for air.

His eyes widened. My blood was boiling hot. It was steaming as if it had been cooked.

His gaze darkened; his eyes snapped to Allison, who was already on her feet.

"You poisoned her!" Dark, blood-chilling auras spilled out from him. The air turned heavy with tension.

Alpha Allison bared her head. "Alpha Damon, I wouldn’t dare."

Damon’s eyes squinted, turning to a shade of silver. "You tried to poison me," he muttered as realization dawned on him.

"No... no, that’s not true! Why would I have any reason to do that to you? Please investigate this properly... someone is trying to frame me," she said, her throat tightened.

Tears streamed down my face as my breath turned ragged. My body, drenched with sweat, convulsed in his arms.

’Okay, I regret my decision now. I’m literally being cooked alive.’

"Alaric!" Damon called, his voice like a storm, reverberating through the walls.

Before the next second passed, Alaric had already dashed into the hall. He stopped just a few steps away from us.

His gaze was filled with concern as he stared at my weak form in Damon’s arms.

"Alpha," he greeted.

"Detain Alpha Allison and all her subordinates. If there is any sign of resistance—kill them."
