Chapter 52: Chapter 52 The Portal and the Plan
The day broke with a cheerful smile, casting golden rays on every living creature on the earth.
My eyes opened to the strange sounds of water dropping down into a river.
The sound felt peaceful and calming. But at the same time, I grew alarmed, with the thought that the flood had overflowed into the camp area.
Blue magical butterflies flew around in my room, I gasped. ’What the heck is going on here.’
Before I could move, one of the butterflies perched on my nose, its wings flapped slowly. Each flutter left behind a trail of blue shimmering dust, like stardust spilled from fragile wings.
I froze, as I stared at its translucent form. My eyes almost bulged out of their sockets, at the flowery vines that had crept around the walls and ceilings, red shimmering roses bloomed from the touch of a butterfly.
I shut my eyes. "This is a dream, it is not real Ember, it is not real." I pried my eyes open, and nothing had changed. I jumped down my bed, I spun around, my heart skipped a beat at the beautiful sight.
Suddenly, a blue light rippled in the air, swirling softly like water.
"Ember...." A soft, gentle voice called.
The mark on my lower shoulders burned like someone was brandishing me with hot metal. My face scrunched up, tears threatening to fall down my cheeks.
I grimaced.
"It is time, come home, Ember." The voice beckoned.
I began to walk towards it, my eyes dazed, like there was no life in them. "Home... I’m coming home." I muttered.
I stood inches away from the portal, I stretched forth my hands into the portal, a warm sensation radiated through me. It began to whirl aggressively, an unknown force pulling further inside.
.....
(In the silvermoon pack.)
A loud smash rang out, followed by the sharp sound of falling shards. Then, the chair flung in the air, hitting the wall with a loud bang, its legs shattering on impact.
A sharp shriek followed.
Maddie stood at the center of the room, her hair a mess, her chest heaving, and her eyes bloodshot from the tears she had been holding back. The maids cowered near the doorway, watching in silence, too afraid to move.
"How dare he?!" Maddie screamed, flinging another cup across the room. It shattered into dozens of glittering pieces.
She paced like a caged wolf, her breathing sharp and ragged. "That omega... that worthless little rat!" Her voice cracked. "She was supposed to be sold to those bloody animals. She was supposed to be a useless breeder."
Her fingers clenched into fists. Her nails dug into her palms hard enough to draw blood.
"I was meant to be closer to him. I trained for it. I studied. I changed everything—everything—to be perfect for Alpha Damon," she growled. "And now... now he bought her?"
She swept her arms across the table, knocking a stack of books to the floor. One of the books hit the floor with a dull thud, its spine breaking.
"I thought the Alpha from Bloodmoon would be the one to take her. That was the plan! Let that beast chew on her until her soul withers. But no—Damon took her. He took her!"
The door burst open. Alpha Caleb stormed in, his expression grim. "What the hell is going on here?"
Maddie whirled on him. "You promised me!" she yelled. "You said I would be his Luna! You said you had a plan!"
Caleb’s jaw tightened. "Of course, Maddie. And you will not speak to me in that tone."
She stepped closer, eyes flashing. "You sold her to him. Why? Because she’s weak? Because she’s just a breeder? Or is it because you still love her as your child? You couldn’t bear to sell her to that animal, so you shoved her into Alpha Damon’s mouth."
"You’re overreacting," Caleb snapped.
"No, I’m not!" she shouted, her voice breaking. "Do you even know what it feels like? Watching that filthy omega step into a life that should have been mine? Damon will have her close. She’ll be in his room. His arms. Bearing his pups."
Her words caught in her throat, bile rising with the thought.
"She’s not supposed to be his breeder! She’s nothing! And yet she’ll have almost everything I was promised."
Caleb exhaled sharply. "She’s just a breeder, Maddie."
Maddie’s eyes narrowed. "And yet, he bought her, why?!"
Caleb said nothing, he closed his eyes, his daughter was too much to handle. A complete spoiled brat.
A slow, dangerous smile crept across her lips. "If Bloodmoon wants a breeder, then we’ll give them one. She won’t last long there. Not with Alpha Lucas. He’ll break her within a day."
Caleb’s eyes snapped open, his brows furrowed. "Don’t be stupid..."
But she was no longer listening. Her mind was already planning. She didn’t need to use force. Just a little trick, something to lure Ember far enough from Damon’s grasp.
"I’ll make her wish she was never born," Maddie muttered under her breath, her eyes gleaming with cruelty. "Let her feel what it’s like to be nothing."
"Maddie listen to me, you will do no such thing okay?!" He grabbed her by the shoulder, he shook her so hard as if to bring back her senses.
"Why, father?"
"I’m not warning as a father, but as your alpha," the air in the room turned heavy, his overbearing aura spread to every corner of the room, his eyes flickered to a shade of red.
The maids fell on their knees, they whimpered with their necks bared.
Maddie clenched her fist, her brown eyes burned. Her throat tightened as she wanted to defy him but with a growl from him. Her knees fell on the ground, shards of ceramic and glass pierced through her knees.
She grimaced, her sulken eyes burned with fresh tears, she bowed her head in reluctance.
She would obey him for now, but that doesn’t mean she won’t go along with her plan. As for Ember, she would wish she was never born.
Maddie looked down at the blood on her palms. A single shard of broken glass shimmered in her hand. She clenched it tighter, not caring if it cut deeper.
