Chapter 43: Chapter 43 Despicable Woman
My breath hitched hearing his words. ’He knew I had been awake all this while.’
"Master, I don’t know what you are talking about."
His eyes narrowed down at me. Being under his burning gaze was too torturous for my poor heart.
ARGH!
I cried in pain, with intentions to distract him from probing further. Alaric walked past him, "Are you still hurting?" He sat on the edge of the bed, gently carrying my injured arm.
He sighed. "You should have healed by now, but because you are an Omega, healing will take a few days to a week." He gently patted my shoulder; his hands flew to his side when a growl rumbled from Damon’s chest.
Nervously, Alaric stood up before taking a few steps from me. "I’ll call for the healer." His back was the only thing that appeared in my line of sight.
Hesitantly, I turned to the man whose expression had darkened, as if a great storm was coming. "Master, are you okay?" I blinked innocently at him.
’I meant mentally, not your fucking feelings.’
"Don’t let anyone touch you, if you don’t want me to rip their hands off," he growled, before sitting next to me, rubbing the same spot Alaric had patted. It was as if he was trying to clean every single trace of his touch.
I bit my lips to suppress the urge to laugh at his gesture. ’What is this? He is a complete psychopath and an over-possessive master.’
I nodded my head with my lips pulsed together.
"We will try to get the flood resolved as soon as possible, because we need to leave for the castle as soon as possible." He paused as if he was contemplating what to say next.
"Did the rogues say anything about why they have targeted you?"
"They were targeting me?" My eyes widened in surprise.
Seconds passed and Damon didn’t utter a word, his gaze fixated on me as if he was trying to pry open every secret in my heart.
He smirked, scoffing. "You really are playing your role well."
But I widened my eyes, blinking at him. "I don’t know what you are talking about... Master."
"Fine. If you don’t know, let’s leave it be. I’ll station some warriors at the entrance of your door, in case there are more attacks coming." He stood up to leave.
When I looked down at my bandaged hand, memories of the rogue aiming for my neck flashed through my head. Shivers ran down my body, as fear of them attacking again crept into my chest.
"Please... don’t go," my voice trembled.
Damon halted, before turning around toward me, with irritation dancing in his eyes. "Scared?" His tone was belittling and dripped with disappointment.
’Yes, I am scared. Some fucking werewolves almost bit me in my neck. Who wouldn’t be scared? And I’m also a city girl who has been shielded all her life.’ I wanted to say those words out, but I swallowed them down.
"Yes, Master... I’m scared."
My gaze fell, as my eyes brimmed with tears. My uninjured hand clutching tightly at the mattress.
"Can you stay until I fall asleep?" I stared at him from underneath my eyelashes, tears streaming down my cheeks.
"Don’t play the pity game with me, Ember." His frame towered over me, then he grabbed my jaw, tilting my head up to look at him.
I whimpered as I felt my bones almost cracking under his pressure. His eyes narrowed angrily at me. "Do you know what I hate the most?" His gaze darted around my face, his jaw hardening again. "I hate women playing the pitiful game with me."
"Mas..."
"Shut it!"
My lips quivered as I stared at those eyes that looked like they were about to burn my soul into ashes. But I wasn’t lying. I wasn’t pretending. I was really scared. My body was literally shaking from terror. How could he not see it?
The hair at the back of my neck stood up on end. He leaned in closer, his face only a few inches away from mine. "The next time you try to manipulate me again, I promise you..." he trailed off, looking down at my fingers that had clenched into a fist. I followed his line of sight, my eyeballs moving awkwardly to the side as my jaw was still held up. "I will cut off one of your bony fingers."
My heart stuttered in my chest, as fear crept up my spine. I nodded my head, trying to blink away the remaining tears that were rolling down my cheeks.
His gaze turned hateful and disappointed, as he stared at the fear in my eyes. "Despicable woman," he spat out, before pushing my head down on the bed.
A yelp escaped my lips. When I turned to look at him, I realized he was nowhere to be found, like he had disappeared into thin air.
My chest jerked up, before trembling as I sobbed. I curled my little body into a ball. Why doesn’t he believe me? It was not like I had tried to manipulate him before. Why is the world so hard on me?
My eyes blurred as hot tears streamed down my cheeks. All I wanted was to have someone who would stay beside me in my time of struggle. I guess I was asking for too much.
...
My eyes fluttered open to the chattering noise outside my tent. My eyes hurt so much from crying almost throughout the night. My head throbbed so badly, as if someone had drummed on it last night.
I squinted my eyes, before pulling the cover over my face, as if it could prevent me from hearing the noise.
I was tired from everything, and I wasn’t in the mood to find out what was happening outside.
The curtain of the tent shifted, followed by the sound of footsteps coming closer to me. Quickly, I pulled the cover down to see who had entered my tent.
