Chapter 41 Seconds From Being Marked

Chapter 41: Chapter 41 Seconds From Being Marked

The rogue’s weight crushed against me, its hot breath reeking of a pungent smell. My stomach churned from the strong smell. My legs kicked weakly, but it growled menacingly at my face. Its glowing gold eyes hovered inches above mine, and the look in them made something inside me freeze completely.

They didn’t just want to kill. They wanted to make me theirs. A rogue mark... it was worse than death.

Its fangs drew closer to my neck. I could feel its saliva drip against my skin, mixing with the cold rain and sweat running down my jaw.

In that split second, something in me screamed to stop it. Pushing my fear away, I moved on instinct, thrusting my hand over my throat just as its teeth lunged forward.

A searing, brutal pain ripped through my arm, exploding through my nerves before slamming into my brain.

I screamed so loud I thought my voice would tear.

Its fangs sank deep, crunching through my skin and flesh. Blood poured out immediately, pooling against my neck and soaking my clothes.

I writhed beneath it, crying, my fingers clawed at the wet earth, the pain was so mind shattering, that my vision blurred.

Another rogue stepped out from the darkness, its eyes fixed on me, its tongue stuck out, panting like a wild dog ready to feast.

I could feel the blood draining from me, my strength disappearing with it. I knew I couldn’t fight them off. I couldn’t even shift. My wolf remained silent, like it was buried within me, unreachable.

And then, somewhere in the distance, the air seemed to charge with tension.

Strangely, the forest air grew still like the trees were holding their breath as if to watch the scene unfold.

A growl cut through the silence—not like the other rogues. This one was colder and more powerful, instilling fear on every creature.

The growl tore through the air, like thunder rumbling through the sky.

My heart skipped a beat, as I froze in anticipation, was it Damon?

The rogue on top of me paused, lifting its head slightly, It twitched its ears, as if trying to identify who or what was coming. Soon I felt its body stiffen above me.

A heartbeat later, something massive tore through the fog. I didn’t even see it clearly, except just a flash of white.

Then the rogue was ripped off me, its body thrown like a ragdoll through the trees. I heard the sickening crash as it hit a trunk somewhere far back, the sound of bones snapping on impact.

Before the rogue could regain its footing, the other white massive wolf was already in front of it, its grey eyes burned with seething fury.

The rogue with gold eyes lowered its tail between its legs, snarling ferociously. Then the snapping of bones and tearing of flesh echoed through the air, the rogues’ head rolling on the ground with its flesh unevenly ripped off.

I gasped, choking on air. My chest heaved up and down in horror, the white wolf’s savage way of ending the rogue made me almost throw up. I tried to sit, but my bleeding arm gave out beneath me. I collapsed back down, my body trembling against the soaked earth.

’It is definitely Damon.’

Another rogue lunged toward him in the mist. However, it didn’t stand a chance.

The white wolf met it head-on, slamming into it with enough force to shake the ground beneath me. Claws like steel tore through its flesh. The rogue howled as blood sprayed across the trees, its limbs flew scattered across the wet earth.

The fog thinned just enough for me to see him.

A massive white Lycan, his fur glowing silver beneath the stormy sky. Rain slid down his muscled frame, and his icy grey and piercing eyes locked onto the remaining rogue.

He remained silent, he didn’t need to growl again. His silence was a thousand times more terrifying.

The last rogue tried to retreat, but the white Lycan moved faster than anything I had ever seen. In one brutal motion, he pounced, claws sinking into the rogue’s back, dragging it down into the dirt like it weighed nothing.

The rogue let out one final, weak whimper—then silence.

Blood pooled around them. The forest fell quiet again.

Only the soft thrum of rain and my ragged breathing filled the air.

I blinked, trying to process what I was seeing. My head felt too heavy. My arm throbbed with each heartbeat, the pain sharp and hot.

The white Lycan turned toward me.

Even from where I lay, I could see his eyes shift—just slightly. The grey in them flickered with something deeper. Something I couldn’t name.

He stepped toward me, his paws sinking into the mud, slow and cautious like he was approaching something fragile.

The sounds of bones breaking and rearranging filled the air.

Then, Damon stood before me, tall and bare-chested, his pale skin streaked with blood and rain. His raven black hair clung to his face and neck, his eyes still glowing faintly. Water dripped down his jaw as he knelt beside me, not saying a word at first.

He looked at the wound on my arm.

His jaw tightened.

His hands curled into fists at his sides, and I could see the war raging in him. That quiet, cold fury that always sat just beneath his skin, now shaking like a dam about to break.

Seeing his expression, my heart skittered in my chest. ’Does he care about me? Or is this just another facade?’

"They tried to mark you," he said quietly, his voice deeper than usual. His throat tightened in anger.

I swallowed hard, my lips trembling. "They almost did." I had no idea how I knew the rogues were about to make me, but I just did.

Now, I couldn’t help but wonder why would a rogue want to mark me, that was not how they normally operate.

His hands moved, a little bit rougher than I expected, which made me pay attention to him. He peeled my soaked cloak back and tore off a piece of his sleeve, wrapping it tightly around the wound.
