Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 85: Eating out
Chapter 85: Eating out
[Long Chapter.]
---
Ave made them walk around the market for a few more hours, buying more things that made Zane wonder what she wanted to use so many goods for when the palace wasn’t lacking any of the things she was buying, and making him carry them all. Even Lucian wasn’t spared from carrying four of the bags, two in each hand, while Ave held two in both hands.
It was almost sunset when Ave finished buying everything she thought she needed for her plans, but after walking around for the whole afternoon and having to go to a corner with Lucian standing guard to magically change her clothes into a simpler dress as the one she wore was stained with blood, Ave was exhausted and hungry.
She didn’t wear modern clothes and made the magic dress change to something plain and simple that was fit for the era and wouldn’t bring any unwanted attention to them.
As they were walking back to where Zane had said their horses were, Ave’s nose perceived the aroma of food swirling out from an alleyway. Her eyes rounded, and she felt her stomach growl loudly, loud enough to be heard by the two men walking on either side of her like her bodyguards.
They looked towards her at the same time, and she stopped walking and glanced guiltily at Lucian, pouting her lips, "I can’t go any further without eating. I didn’t eat much for breakfast, and I had nothing for lunch, and now I will be traveling back to the palace on an empty stomach. Let’s make a quick stop to find something to eat," she said, already looking towards the alleyway where the aroma was coming from with a sigh that suggested there was an eatery ahead.
Lucian didn’t even think twice about her words before saying, "No. Royals don’t eat outside the palace unless you want to be poisoned. It’s getting late, we have to go back." He said nonchalantly. He didn’t want to stay another moment in this town after he had been forced to spend the day in it by her. She had made him walk around the market like her errand boy and even forced him to carry her bags because Zane’s hands were filled to the extent that a few of the bags were hanging around his neck. If Zane’s legs could hold a bag, Lucian was certain this woman wouldn’t spare his legs as well.
He couldn’t remember the last time he had been to a market or carried anything for anyone.
Ave pursed her lips, "Who will poison us when they don’t know who we are? Are you even human? I rarely see you eat in your palace unless when we are called for the royal dinner in the main palace. If you are not hungry, I am. And I bet Zane is as well, right Zane?" She turned to ask Zane, who looked from Ave to Lucian, who was glaring at him and daring him to agree with her. Even though he was indeed hungry, he decided not to answer and turned away to look up at the sky like she wasn’t talking to him.
Ave opened and closed her mouth at Zane’s behavior and then shot a look at Lucian. Without even bothering to force them, she turned on her heels and began to head towards the alleyway where the scent was. As expected, Lucian’s displeased voice called after her, and when she ignored him and kept walking, he had no choice but to follow her, with Zane coming along.
By the time they reached the eatery, Lucian didn’t say anything to stop her, as he’d heard her stomach make noise when he walked up to her. He simply followed her into the eatery with Zane staring at the prince in disbelief. He wasn’t just holding her bags for her but had cut a man’s hand and even allowed her to do as she pleased without scolding her or stopping her from entering the eatery. What was wrong with the prince today?
Lucian was acting completely unlike himself, Zane thought as he followed the two into the eatery that was built for the nobles in the town.
The moment they entered, a man in an attire which looked like a uniform walked up to them and bowed at the customers as they looked to be from a noble family with their attires, while automatically assuming Ave to be a maid from the plain dress she wore and the scarf covering her hair.
Thus, after bowing to the men, he looked towards her and said, "The servant’s spaces are in that direction. You can wait for your master there. Maids aren’t allowed in here, you..." He didn’t get to complete his words when he felt a shiver run down his spine from the look thrown at him by the man in brown attire with black eyes.
"What made you think I am a maid?" Ave questioned in disbelief and a bit annoyed that he thought of her as a maid and even dared tried to send her out. "I am this man’s wife, and I am here to eat with my darling husband." She said, gesturing towards Lucian with her chin, not turning to see the reaction on his face when she called him her husband, she kept her eyes on the man who had an apologetic look on his face now.
Ave had changed into this plain dress and even used the shawl she’d borrowed from around Lucian’s neck—or more accurately, snatched from around his neck after she’d changed. Since he hadn’t said anything, she used it to tie her hair to stop the unwanted attention and to avoid a situation where another person would lose their hand, but she hadn’t intended to go for a maid’s look.
The man quickly bowed to her, "I apologize, Milady. Please come this way." He led them to a table and then asked politely, "What would you like to have, My Lord?" He directed the question at Lucian after they sat down, who he now believed was the woman’s husband with the look he’d shot at him when he assumed she was a maid and the look of satisfaction that crossed his face when the woman had called him husband.
Lucian didn’t even bother to spare the man a look or say a word. He simply looked towards Ave, and as expected, she said, "Can I see your menu?"
A frown settled on the man’s face as he had no idea what that was. He looked towards Zane, expecting him to know and tell him what the woman meant, but Zane looked as clueless as the man and looked towards Lucian, who sat there like anything they were saying was none of his business.
Ave saw how they were staring at each other and sighed, "I mean, what kind of food do you have here?" She rephrased her words, causing the man to reply, "Oh. It’s over there on the board." He pointed towards the board where a list of the meals they served at the restaurant was written.
Ave didn’t recognize any of the names and ordered the first four she placed her eyes on. She then glanced at the two men, questioning what they would like to have, "What about you guys?" she asked, causing Lucian to frown before he arched a brow, "Who did you buy those four dishes for then?"
"Myself, of course. Order yours." She said casually as if it was normal for a woman to eat that much.
In this era, noble women were more careful about the food they consumed as they worried about their weight more than anything, and Ave being casual about eating a meal for four made the man waiting for them to make their orders clear his throat awkwardly. Where did this goodlooking nobleman marry this one from?
Lucian had already known she was gluttonous from how much she ate in the palace, thus he wasn’t surprised she would order that much. He simply looked at the man and said, "Give me any one of the meals she ordered," and then leaned back in his chair, tapping his fingers against the table as he waited patiently for the man to go and get the food so they could eat and leave. He didn’t like how much time they were spending in the town.
When the man brought their meals, with Ave’s filling most of the space on the table, Lucian began to eat his food without even tasting it in his mouth before chewing and swallowing it, as he usually did. However, despite the fact that he thought he was eating too fast, before he could finish his bowl, Ave had finished two of hers and was going for the third one.
"Hmm, the food here tastes better than the one in the palace," she hummed in delight as she devoured the food like it was running away, not paying attention to how Lucian was staring at her, with his spoon suspended in midair.
Lucian’s eyes fell on the corner of her lips where a grain of rice was stuck, he felt the sudden urge to reach out and wipe it for her, however, before he gave into his urge to touch her, her pink tongue peeked out of her mouth and licked it. His eyes didn’t miss the innocent actions that made his eyes flicker and caused his throat to suddenly feel dry. She did it again, and he gritted his teeth and slammed his spoon on the table.
"Can’t you eat properly?" He demanded, slightly irritated and frustrated that she was tempting him yet again even in public. He had been distracted the whole day and hadn’t settled down to be aware of her again until now. And he didn’t like it one bit that he was being this attracted to her to the point of getting affected by such action.
Ave, who was enjoying her meal, jumped at his sudden slamming of the table and the irritation in his voice.
What did she do now? She thought as she stopped mid-chew and glanced at him, slightly offended and hurt, "Well, I’m sorry that I am breathing. If you don’t like how I’m eating, you can go and sit at another table." She muttered, hiding her hurt behind the bowl of soup as she raised it to her mouth and sipped it slowly.
She had always eaten fast since the day her stepmother had moved into their house and deprived her of food, only feeding her when she felt like giving her food. When Ave finally found food, she ate it like it was her last meal, unintentionally irritating the people around her, some of whom would say they were disgusted by how fast she ate, especially in high school in the lunchroom.
She had never felt offended by any of them calling her names or getting angry at her for eating fast, but seeing that Lucian was irritated by her somehow made her heart tighten and her throat slightly clench. She suddenly lost her appetite after drinking the soup.
Lucian, who had spoken not because the way she ate irritated him but because of how he found the action of her licking her lips with her tongue arousing, saw the look in her eyes and how she stopped eating. He was about to part his lips and talk but stopped when she turned her chair towards Zane, who was eating his food and pretending like he wasn’t there, and smiled at him.
"Zane, do you have a girlfriend?" Ave asked him as she was no longer interested in eating and didn’t want to talk to Lucian or look at his face. He was a jerk, and to think that she thought he was nice to have carried her bags and even scared the sellers who refused to sell their goods to her, she had been moved by his actions earlier and now he’d ruined her mood and everything.
Zane glanced at her with his brows drawn together in question, "You mean a female friend, Your Highness?" He asked, not certain what a girlfriend was.
Ave chuckled softly, "Something like that, but a female friend that is in your heart, someone you like, I mean." She clarified, causing the man to choke on his food. Ave hurriedly stood up and handed him a cup of water while she walked behind his back and began to rub it to calm him down; however, he stiffened in place.
"Be careful next time, Zane. Some people die from choking you know," Ave said, completely oblivious to how Lucian was looking at her and glaring murderously at Zane for the way she was rubbing his back, until Zane hurriedly stood up and moved away from her, his face red from holding back his cough and from embarrassment.
Ave turned to him with a frown, "Why did you stand up? Come and sit down and finish your food. Tsk, I didn’t know you’re a shy type. I like shy men, I always find them cute, unlike someone." She said in amusement, moving away and returning to her seat before picking up her cup of water to take a sip from it.
Zane dared not sit down until she was seated and then went back to his chair and carefully sat back. However, the moment he picked up his spoon to resume eating while trying his best not to glance toward Lucian, Ave’s voice stopped him, "You haven’t answered my question yet. Do you have someone you like?"
Ave was asking as she’d noticed how Thalia always stared at the man whenever he walked by them in the doomed palace. She wasn’t naive enough not to know that the Princess was smitten by him, after all, the man was good-looking, and she thought they’d look good together. She didn’t like how Thalia believed that she was now too old to be liked by someone when she was just twenty.
Zane had to clear his throat before he shook his head, "No, I do not have anyone I like, Your Highness, and I have no intentions of having anyone like that." He said calmly as he picked up his spoon to resume his meal, but Ave spoke again.
"Why? You are a really handsome man and I don’t think you should allow those looks of yours to go away without having a child that would inherit them. Women from where I come from would kill each other to make you their man." She snapped her fingers to emphasize her words.
Zane could feel the eyes of the prince boring into him, and he wished she would stop talking, but it seemed she wasn’t done yet and was aiming to get him buried alive by the second prince, and said, "If you ever change your mind about liking someone, let me know so I can—"
BANG!
Lucian slammed his fist on the table and stood up, his face a mask of irritation as he said, "Since you two seem to be done with your meals, let’s go." And without waiting for any of them, he began to walk toward the exit, his broad majestic figure almost disappearing before their eyes while calling back to Zane, "Make sure you carry all of those bags, including the four I’ve been holding earlier."
