Chapter 69: Movie role

"Weren’t you taught how to be a proper lady in front of a man wherever it is you come from?"

Ave’s brows drew together at the annoyance she heard in his voice. "Proper lady? What made you think I’m not proper?" she asked innocently, as she had no idea what she’d done to make him look and sound annoyed all of a sudden. That was why she always said this prince was bipolar with how his mood changed faster than an unpredictable weather.

Lucian glanced at her with a raised brow. Who told this one she was proper? He’d never seen a mannerless woman with such a loose, unladylike character before, and the way she did things without caring for their consequences made him question if she had any self-awareness at all, not to mention how she had been drinking water a moment ago in front of him.

Deciding not to even start with the topic of her manners, he stood up from the edge of the bed and said, "You are not to use your injured hand until it heals completely. Whatever you want, you can ask me for it, and I’ll get it for you." He had decided to look after her until he was sure she wouldn’t do anything to complicate their situation and expose herself as his weakness to anyone else.

Ave was taken aback for a moment before she asked, "You mean I’ll have to stay in your room until my hand heals?"

"Yes."

"And you will be like my maid the whole time I’m recovering? You will help me bathe and feed me because I can’t use my left hand to eat?" she asked with an amused look on her face. It seemed he was making her quest easier; the closer she was to him, the more likely he was to love her and trust her enough to be his ally.

"..." He didn’t reply because Lucian hadn’t thought of that part—bathing and feeding.

"I like the sound of that," Ave said with a grin before it quickly disappeared as she realized something. "Wait a minute, what about my students? I mean, the Princesses. We are yet to complete our dance lessons. Did they come today? Oh no, my agreement with Thalia." Ave said all in one breath as she remembered the deal she had made with Thalia.

Though her hand was hurting, it wasn’t so much that it would stop her from fulfilling her promise to the Princess and continue to prepare for their dance. However, Lucian didn’t hesitate to say,

"They came, and I sent them back. With your injury, you can’t continue to teach them the dance. Let them find someone else."

Ave, who had thought that her injured hand would make her quest easier, now regretted it. She liked teaching them the dance and also wanted to learn more about romance from Thalia so it would make it easier for her with the prince, not to mention she wanted to help the Princess experience more fun to remember even after Ave had gone back to her time.

"You can’t tell me what to do; I want to continue teaching them. I will resume our lesson tomorrow," Ave said with her chin raised high.

"I’d like to see you try. I will send them back again when they come," Lucian said nonchalantly as he began to tidy up the messy nightstand himself, as maids weren’t allowed in his chamber.

"No, you won’t," Ave gasped at him.

"Yes, I will, Aveline," he said in his calm, low voice that made the hairs on her body rise on end at the huskiness she heard in his voice when he said her name. Ave was momentarily caught off guard by that but quickly recovered.

"You don’t expect me to lay here all day tomorrow without doing anything, do you?" she asked, and when he gave her the look that said, ’What else would you be doing if not laying in bed?’ Ave pursed her lips in disapproval.

"No fucking way will I be doing—ouch!" she gasped in pain when he suddenly leaned forward and lightly smacked her mouth with his hand.

"What did I tell you about using that word? It’s not fit for a girl or lady to use, and if someday the Emperor or any of the royals find out you were the one to make them believe it means ’warrior,’ you are not going to like the outcome." He clicked his tongue in disapproval and was going to move back but stopped when he saw her eyes filling with tears, and her hand still remained covering her mouth like she was in pain. He frowned. Did he hit her so hard?

Without thinking, he reached out and pulled her hand down from her mouth to see if he’d hit her hard enough to cause her pain, but he was taken aback to see her lips pulled up in a smirk, and before he knew it, she’d reached out, grabbed his shirt collar, and pulled him down on the bed, catching him off guard as he fell down on the bed. She turned in a way that trapped him down on the bed with both her hands on either side of him and her face looming over him, her hair pouring down like a curtain around their faces.

"What do you think you are doing?" Lucian demanded coolly as he glanced up at her.

Ave was testing something. She had acted out such a scene with her male lead in the movie she starred in. In the scene, she was supposed to act dominant to get him to do what she wanted as she was a tyrant Princess who could command anyone as she pleased, but her stubborn husband, who didn’t fear her, wouldn’t do what she wanted until she showed him who the boss was. Though it wasn’t the same now, she wanted to try it in reality on Lucian and see if it would work.

She straddled him and put on her character’s cold expression while she grabbed both his hands and pulled them with all her strength over his head. Lucian looked too stunned to even try to pull away from her, and because he didn’t want her to hurt her injured hand, he willingly allowed her to pull his hands.

Ave leaned down towards his ear, too close that her lips grazed his ear when she spoke.

"I am your wife, Your Highness, and as your wife and your Princess, you shall obey my command. I will teach the Princesses dance tomorrow and continue with what I have started, and you shall do nothing about it. Understood?" she demanded in the same voice she always used on set while playing the Princess.

Lucian blinked twice in disbelief before he turned his head to try to look into her eyes, but she was still leaning towards his ear, and her mouth only ended up closer to his ear when he moved. He couldn’t believe she thought she could use such a tone with him, straddling him in a way that made him aware of her womanly figure against his. He could feel every inch of her body and her soft bosom pressed against his chest, her warm breath against his ear, and her parted legs around his torso.

"Let go of my hands," he ordered calmly. He could pull away, but he didn’t want to hurt her hand even more.

"Huh?" Ave pushed her head back and glanced down at his hardened face with cold eyes that were sending daggers at her in nervous disbelief. She’d thought this tactic was going to work as it had on her movie husband, but it seemed she was playing with fire for daring to go this far with this prince. She didn’t have to be told twice before she released his hands and quickly attempted to climb down his body. However, his hand was quick to move towards her hips and pressed her back against his torso.

Ave gulped before she awkwardly smiled down at him. "Can you release me so I can climb down your body then?" she asked as she felt his fingers slightly digging into her hips.

Instead of releasing her, Lucian raised his right hand and pushed back the curtain of hair obstructing his clear view of her face, tucking it behind her ear and shoulder, before he looked into her eyes. "Did you think you can just do as you please and get off that easily, Princess?" She had dared to trick him and even straddled him in such a way that he could feel his manly desires rising—something that hadn’t bothered him in a while.

"I... I didn’t do anything. I was only trying to play a movie role with you, that’s all," she said defensively as his hand moved back to keep her in place, now even holding her thigh.

"Movie role?" He raised a brow as his curious eyes briefly fell on her bosom in front of him before it went back to her eyes.

She explained what a movie was and told him she was an actress before she came here and described the movie she starred in.

"You mean to say you did something like this with a man that isn’t your husband to entertain people?" he asked, not liking the sound of that for some reason. "And you suddenly think to do it with me as well? Have you got no shame?" What has the world become in the future to allow such things? Lucian thought to himself.

"Don’t give me that look. It’s not a big deal," she said with a small pout and subconsciously rested her hands on his chest to keep herself from falling forward. If only he knew all the things that were normalized in the future, he wouldn’t be giving her such a look. It wasn’t like she had sex with her co-actor.

"What about your parents? What did they think about you doing such a thing with that man to entertain people?" he asked in spite of himself, but watched as her eyes fell at that question.
