Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 61: Throw her out
Chapter 61: Throw her out
Hearing Ave’s firm words not only amused the Princesses, who had been too scared to talk back to Catherine after the Empress’s orders, but also shocked Catherine herself for a moment before she recovered.
"Goodness gracious," Catherine chuckled. "For a woman who was picked out of slavery and given the title of a Princess, you sure want to rebel against the Empress by going against my decision. I am their guardian, and my decision is the most important one here. The Princesses won’t be making any of those things you called a dress."
Ave couldn’t believe Catherine thought she was the kind to follow some damn words because the Empress had ordered them. Yes, she was terrified of the tyrant Empress, but not to the extent that she’d let Catherine do as she pleased in a palace that belonged to Lucian. She hadn’t only come here to spy but also to disrupt everything Ave was preparing for their dance. She would be a fool to sit still like the princesses and let her have her way.
Ave smirked, "Let me remind you if you’ve forgotten something Catty, this is my husband’s house, and the Empress is not here to see what goes on. If you know what’s better for you, sit your lousy ass down and mind your fucking business right now."
In this day and age, whether the Empress was present or not, once she gave her orders, they were meant to be followed by anyone, regardless of their position and status. This was why the Princesses had not said anything to Catherine even when she demanded to ride with them in the carriage. However, seeing Ave go against a royal order made them look on nervously.
Catherine was taken aback yet again by her half-sister’s behavior. Selene was normally terrified of the Empress and would do anything she said, regardless of what it was, but she dared to talk back to her like this and even go against an order by disrespecting a guardian.
"Princess Selene, don’t overstep your boundaries. It doesn’t matter whose house this is; I am a guardian, and I will not take your disrespect lightly—" Before she could finish speaking, Ave had sent a resounding slap to Catherine’s face that made everyone gasp in surprise. Ave was already not in the mood to deal with any of this maid’s nonsense, and the fact that she kept trying to waste her time made her more furious.
This time, however, when Catherine recovered from the shock of being slapped for the second time by her half-sister, she didn’t hold back and lifted her hand to return the slap, only for a hand to come from the side and grab her wrist, crushing it in a grip that seemed like steel.
Looking to the side, she was taken aback to be met with a pair of displeased hazel eyes that belonged to the second prince’s right-hand man, who bored down at her.
Zane had been hurrying down to attend to some urgent matter when he’d heard the exchange between the two and had walked in at the moment Ave slapped Catherine. When he saw the maid was about to return the slap, he’d automatically intervened, as Lucian had asked him yesterday to keep an eye on Ave and make sure she didn’t do anything that might give away hers or his late mother’s secret.
"Who gave you the right to raise a hand at a Princess?" He demanded coolly, adding pressure to her wrist.
Catherine winced slightly in pain. She knew Zane and had heard a lot of rumors about him, but at this moment, when she was feeling so mad at the fact that she’d been slapped by her half-sister, she glared at him and said, "Let go of my hand, My Lord. I was assigned as a guardian by the Empress, and you are not in a position to interfere here."
Zane’s brows knitted together at the maid’s audacity. He didn’t answer to the Empress but to the second prince, and he didn’t care if she was a guardian or not. Even in the past, this same maid had been added to the list of the second prince’s enemies, and Zane had been looking for an opportunity to deal with her for some time.
Zane looked at Ave and asked her instead, "Your Highness, what punishment do you think befits a disrespectful maid like this? I wouldn’t like to act out without an order," he said with an amused smirk.
Ave would have ordered her to be thrown in a dungeon or some cell if she wasn’t avoiding the Empress’s wrath for going to that extreme, so she crossed her arms across her chest and ordered, "Throw her out of the palace and never allow her to step foot in here again."
Catherine’s eyes darkened as she said, "You can’t do that. I was ordered to be here by the Empress," she then looked towards Princess Thalia, as she was the eldest among the twins and could vouch for her claim that the Empress had ordered them to let her stay inside the palace. But Thaila wasn’t even looking at her, as her eyes were glued to the man crushing her wrist in his grip.
"Take her away, Zane," Prince Orion, who had also been sitting quietly, finally gained a backbone upon seeing how brave Ave was and Zane not caring about the Empress’s orders. He even stood up and positioned himself at the side in case Zane needed help dragging the maid out.
Even though Zane looked ready to escape the fourth prince and throw the maid outside by himself, the prince grabbed her hand and began to pull her out while also making Zane follow behind. But before he could walk away, he sensed someone’s gaze on him. Though everyone was looking at him, this one seemed intense, and when he looked towards the direction, his eyes fell on the gray-eyed Princess for a brief moment before he walked away.
Thalia stared at him until he was out of sight, and she heard her sisters sigh in relief.
"Thank goodness she’s gone," Isolde remarked, but her brows frowned deeply in worry. "We won’t be punished for this, will we?" she asked their older sister.
"We are not the ones who sent her out, so we won’t be punished. It is Selene you should be worried about," she stated in concern. But the twins scrunched their noses as if in disgust before Isolde scoffed,
"Why should we be worried for another slave? She’s not related to us, so it’s none of our business to worry about her." Though she’d enjoyed her time yesterday and had the best fun of her life and even thought Selene wasn’t that bad, she didn’t want to get attached to a slave Princess.
Thalia glanced at her sister and said, "You shouldn’t say that. Selene is more like our friend now, and if it weren’t for her, we would still be stuck with that Catherine. We should treat her nicely, right, Celeste?" she asked her other younger sister, who looked thoughtful for a while before she shrugged and replied with a raised chin, "Well, if you put it that way, I’d pick Selene over that other slave. However, she’s not my friend."
Even though she was beginning to like Selene’s company, she wasn’t ready to let herself fall so low and become friends with a Princess picked from slavery, not to mention the guests from the other kingdoms would soon be arriving and most of the Princesses were her friends, with whom they’d made fun of Selene together. It would be embarrassing to become friends with a person she’d bullied before to feel better about herself.
Thalia shook her head at her sisters and then looked away from them before her eyes went back to the door that man had disappeared through. Ave’s voice made her look away.
"Now, if you don’t want me to order the guards to throw you into a cell, Madam Felisha, you’d better go and start working on my orders without questioning me. Make everything according to what your assistant drew down," Ave said firmly, trying to sound like a superior so the dressmaker wouldn’t think she could also get away with disrespecting her.
Even though she was a princess by name, some people should know their places. Ave clicked her tongue.
The dressmaker dared not oppose her again. She bowed her head and said, "Yes, Your Highness. The attires will be ready before the birthday ceremony and delivered to you." She wouldn’t want to be locked in a dungeon in the doomed palace where she’d heard many scary rumors.
After the dressmaker left with her assistant, dealing with the man in charge of the song wasn’t that hard, as he’d witnessed what happened. He didn’t question anything despite finding the sounds she described strange and unusual.
Once the man left as well, Ave and the Princesses proceeded into the hall and began their dance practice. And just like yesterday, they were having so much fun until Celeste hurt her back from trying too hard to roll her hips the way Ave was doing.
Ave quickly assisted the girl to sit on the floor, as there was no furniture in the hall. Celeste was in so much pain that she sat down without remembering that as a princess, she wasn’t supposed to be found sitting on the bare floor.
"I told you to loosen up your body when doing that part," Ave said with a sigh as she tried to straighten the girl’s back, as her bones were stiff.
Celeste quickly hit her hand away from her back with a cry, "Don’t touch me! Go and call the royal doctor to check on my backbones. If anything happens to my backbone when the guests will be arriving soon and I have to choose a prince, I will make sure you also lose the ability to stand properly, you are—Ahh!"
Ave didn’t listen to the girl’s words and reached to straighten her back by using her knees to support her back while she pulled her shoulders back. With a cracking sound, the girl’s back was back to normal.
Celeste cried out as she thought Ave had damaged her back from the cracking sound. She swirled around to curse at Ave when she realized her back had stopped hurting. "Damnation, my back doesn’t hurt anymore," she muttered as she stood up and jumped up and down in excitement, holding her twin sister’s hand.
Ave cleared her throat, expecting some form of gratitude from the brat, but the two sisters stopped jumping to glance toward her.
Celeste pursed her lips and glared at Ave before muttering, "You caused my back to hurt and then you fixed it, so you won’t receive a thank you from me. But, I’ve decided to stop bullying you from now on."
