Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 214: Strange people
Chapter 214: Strange people
[Long Chapter.]
---
Ave watched as he left the room and sighed. She looked around the room they were given. It was beautiful and in brighter colors in comparison to everything else in the palace she had seen so far. The walls were painted in gold with light blue curtains. It had a large bed she thought would fit four people, with a fur blanket and see-through curtains around the bed. Looking at the bed made her wish she could just lay down and sleep rather than go down and have breakfast, as she was so tired she hoped she wouldn’t fall asleep in the dinning hall.
There was a vanity table in the room with a mirror, where she watched the servants begin to arrange some bottles of oils and different kinds of things she didn’t recognize on it.
Soon, they led her to the bathtub that wasn’t like a pool but rather a normal tub. In the next few minutes, she spent with the servant girls, who helped her bathe and change, she was transformed into another person she didn’t quite recognize in the mirror after they were done.
She stared at her reflection in wonderment. Though she thought she would have preferred a good sleep on that large bed in the room rather than all this makeover, she couldn’t help but admire what they did to her. She wore a white, flowing, dress with a plunging V-neckline. It gathered slightly at the shoulders and falls gracefully down with a golden belt around her waist.
Her red hair was gathered up on her head with gold pins holding it up, while a few strands fell down the sides of her face. Her skin was glistening because they’d applied some oils to it to make it that way. They’d also put some golden arm bracelet around her arms with bangles. It reminded her of the ancient Greek goddesses outfits.
On her neck, a golden choker necklace adorned her throat with its earrings dangling from her ears. One thing she didn’t like about the dress was how it seemed too transparent and also how its plunging V-line neck shape left the middle and the sides of her chest bare. If it weren’t for the golden belt around her waist, the dress wouldn’t hold around her body. Wearing something like this around was going to be hard, especially knowing if her belt came loose, her dress would fall away because it didn’t fit her body type so well.
The girl fixing her hair spoke in a foreign language Ave didn’t understand, but she could tell they were talking about her with how the rest burst out laughing and gave her a once-over look in the mirror before laughing again.
One of them, in particular, didn’t laugh, and she scolded them in the language before they all bowed to her and left.
"I am sorry, My Lady, for the words they spoke," apologized the girl, who Ave was surprised understood English as they had been conversing the whole time in the language while they assisted her.
"What did they say?" she asked curiously, as she hadn’t understood it. The girl hesitated before she began to speak,
"They say you are too pale for anyone’s liking in our land and that your curves are lacking because you are too thin for a man to desire. Your eyes are scary because they are the color of the sky, and your hair...is like a Lolaca..."
Ave couldn’t believe the audacity of the servants, but instead of taking their words to heart, she found it funny, as beauty standards vary in different places. She looked at the girl through the mirror and asked, "And what is a Lolaca?" She arched a curious brow as the girl seemed to hesitate again. Everyone had always admired red hair, and though they had insulted her like that, a Lolaca must mean something nice.
"It’s a word used for less attractive old women who got rejected by their mates..." she told her and hurriedly said, "I am sorry for their words," when she noticed the smile fall away from Ave’s face and those words seemed to get to her.
"Well, everything they said meant the same thing..." she muttered, feeling the sting of their words even though she didn’t want to show it or let it hurt her. She couldn’t help but wonder if she was so unattractive that it could be the reason Lucian didn’t desire her sexually.
"Where is my maidservant who came here with me?" she asked the girl who introduced herself as Nadia. She would rather have Lydia assist her next time than deal with those rude servants.
"She is in the servants’ guest rooms. She cannot serve you here if that is what you think. She doesn’t understand our customs and attire, so I will be at your service from now on until your stay here is over," Nadia said with a friendly smile.
"I see," Ave muttered as she was led out of the room by the girl. She had thought she looked fine with all the jewelry, but to them, she was an unattractive old woman. The audacity of them to speak like that to a guest of their king! The Pendragon servants would have never spoken such words to an important guest and gone unpunished.
When Ave was about to descend the stairs, she met Isolde and Celeste coming out of their room. They also wore the same outfit, and they looked quite uncomfortable in them as she was because it didn’t fit their bodies. When they noticed her wearing the same outfit, their expressions showed visible relief as they approached her with smiles.
"The attire fits you better!" they exclaimed in unison, admiring Ave’s attire.
Their exclamation made the servants around the stairs snicker and whisper in their language. Isolde pursed her lips as she approached Ave. "Is it just me, or are they all making fun of us?" she asked.
"They are making fun of us, but just ignore them, for as long as they didn’t dare say the words in the language we understood." Ave assured them after complimenting their outfit, which in her opinion looked great. If any of them dared to make fun of her in the language she understood, they should be ready to lose their teeth because she wouldn’t hesitate to hit someone.
"The servants who’d helped us dress had been laughing the whole time, and it makes me feel uncomfortable," Celeste added as they walked down the stairs barefoot like the rest.
They were still walking down the stairs when Ave felt a hand rest on the small of her back. She didn’t need to look to know who it was—she had become familiar with his touch and scent.
Smiling, she glanced to the side and saw her husband, dressed in the same attire as the Nazia men, just like Orion and Zane, who followed closely behind him.
Lucian wore a sheer black robe that revealed his muscled arms through the transparent material, paired with a white vest beneath the flowing robe and loose black trousers. He was barefoot as well. Before she could look up at his face, he leaned down, kissed her cheek, and whispered, "You look different," in her ear after silently admiring her erotic appearance, which stirred feelings he didn’t want to explore at the moment inside him.
Ave felt heat creep up her cheeks from the warmth of his breath fanning the side of her face as he leaned down, despite his compliment not being what she wished to hear. He didn’t say she looked beautiful, just different. What did that mean? She pondered, glancing at him to ask if he thought she was beautiful in the dress, but they had already arrived at the dining hall, where she noticed more members of the family had gathered. The men looked so much alike, while the women...
Ave was speechless. She had thought the servants were beautiful, but no word could describe the royal women’s voluptuous beauty. They wore the same kind of attire as her, and she saw the difference in how it clutched their curves and why the servants thought she had no curves. She’d seen one of the princesses before in the Pendragon palace, but she had worn a normal dress then and had not bothered to doll herself up like she did now.
King Talinor was sitting at the head table while three men who looked like him sat on his right and five beautiful women on his left, one of them being Princess Nina, who she’d seen once in Pendragon palace, who was now looking at Lucian with a way too friendly smile as she got up elegantly from her seat and walked towards him with her alluring hips swaying with each steps she took.
Ave watched as her husband smiled at the woman who came to stand in front of him.
"Princess Nina," he greeted in a friendly voice she hadn’t heard him use with anyone apart from her before. Were they that close? Ave wondered.
In response to Lucian’s greeting, the princess stepped forward as per their customs, which Ave had read in a book stating they exchanged cheek kisses with people they were friendly with. However, instead of kissing his cheek, she... kissed his lips!
Ave felt her fingers dig into her palms at the way she stepped forward and kissed her husband on the lips in front of her. Ave would have interfered had Lucian not stepped away when the princess began to shamelessly deepen the greeting kiss, however she glared at him sending daggers in her gaze before raising her feet and discreetly stomped her heel onto his toes. She hadn’t meant to take her anger out on him, but the fury of watching that princess kiss him burned in her chest.
He flinched when her heel smashed his toes then tilted his head to her direction sending her an apologetic glance.
Lucian felt the urge to wipe his lips but refrained, not wanting to disrespect the people whose help he needed. He forced a smile as the princess said,
"I’ve always wished to do that ever since you saved my life on the battlefield, but I was too weak then. And when we met again in Pendragon, I had to conduct myself according to your people’s customs. I’m glad you’re here," she told him with a seductive smile that grated on Ave and made her want to tell the woman to stay away from her man.
Ave was still holding back her anger at the way the woman had kissed Lucian when she felt his arm come around her waist, pulling her closer to him while he continued to maintain a friendly smile with the princess.
"Princess Nina, meet my wife, Aveline." He introduced her to the princess, who had been grinning before, but upon hearing his words, her smile fell away as she turned to look Ave up and down for a moment before a tight smile came back on her face when she turned to Lucian and asked,
"Isn’t she Selene? The slave Princess you disposed of? How is she Aveline and now your wife?"
Ave could tell a jealous, hurt woman when she saw one, and she could tell Princess Nina was just that at this moment. Did she like Lucian before? She wondered in displeasure.
"It’s a long story that has nothing to do with the Nazia, my princess." Lucian told her politely as he led Ave to the table and pulled her chair back for her to sit before he sat down beside her. The hall was silent as everyone settled in their chair for a moment before the king broke the silence with his laugh.
"Well, now that you are here, let’s make the introductions. These here are my brothers, Acer, Elm, Kale." He pointed to the three men at his right who stared at Lucian with narrowed eyes and then treated Ave and the Pendragon Royals like they were air and invisible when the king introduced her to them as Lucian’s wife and the rest as his siblings.
"And these three beautiful women are my lovely sisters, Nina, Una, Ynes, while the rest are my brothers’ wives, Yaoria and Ellen," he introduced, and the women didn’t even bother to smile at Ave when she smiled at them. She bet she would be able to remember their names, especially when none of them seemed to welcome them here. It seemed they expected Lucian to come alone, as they paid him more attention.
The princess named Una even went on and said, "It’s nice to meet you, Prince Lucian. I’ve heard so much about you from Nina after you saved her from that battle we fought alongside the Pendragon soldiers. And you wouldn’t have been here if it weren’t for her talking Talinor into hearing what you have to say in Pendragon. She’s really fond of you," she said with a small laugh, as if trying to insinuate something.
"She’s been looking forward to you coming here, but who would have thought you’d bring weaklings with you." Chuckled Ynes, the other sister, as she looked towards Ave and said something in their language that made the rest stifle a laugh.
Unable to take it anymore, Ave stabbed her fork into the food in front of her and said, "Might I remind you that speaking in a language not everyone understands is not only rude, but also cowardly? If you have something to say, say it where everyone can hear it." She gave them a sharp look that made their laughter die down before the princess named Una scoffed.
"A sharp tongue, human. No one is afraid of you or being cowardly. Ynes said you look so fragile and pale a man would break you in bed!" She sneered smugly.
Ave’s hand clenched tightly around her dress, and she would have spoken at the rudeness of their words and what they thought about her had Lucian not placed a hand on her lap under the table and given it a gentle squeeze. She turned to look at him, but he wasn’t looking at her; his hand remained on her lap, massaging it gently.
The breakfast was one of the most awkward ones Ave had ever experienced in her life, as the Nazia royals talked among themselves in their language while some of them kept drifting glances towards her and the Pendragon royals. It seemed Lucian understood whatever they were saying because he frowned in displeasure and interjected at some point.
He spoke the language as if it were his own, and they listened to whatever he was saying with displeasure on their faces. Some of the princes even glared at the Pendragon royals, who looked intimidated by them and couldn’t even eat, sitting silently.
When an argument broke out, Talinor slammed his fist on the table to quiet them down before he turned to Lucian with a smile and said,
"We need to talk, Lucian. In private." Then he got up and left, with his brothers following behind him.
Lucian turned to Ave and whispered softly, "Once you are done eating, take the rest and go back to your rooms to get some sleep. I will meet you there later, okay?" He stared into her blue eyes and waited until she nodded with a small smile before he went after the men, leaving her behind with the Nazia princesses, who regarded her with pure distain before they all stood up and left the table.
