Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 188: Missing him...
Chapter 188: Missing him...
Now, as they all sat around the long table in Lucian’s dining hall, with everyone trying to pass one dish to the other, Ave couldn’t help but wish the owner of the place was around. The doomed palace had never been this lively before, and the thought that he was probably fighting in a war while they feasted in his place made her unable to eat and instead watch the rest.
By the time they were all done, the sun had gone down completely, and the crescent moon had risen in the starry night sky. They all looked drunk from overeating, and it was a sight worth capturing with a camera as they walked out of the palace towards their carriage, laughing and talking about what they found funny in the time they spent in the kitchen.
They laughed about the head cook’s reaction and expression when he was served a slice of pizza. His awestruck look as he took a bite was something they wouldn’t be forgetting anytime soon. He had tried to pretend it wasn’t that good, but they’d caught him devouring Ave’s leftovers when Lydia came to report it, and they’d sneaked in to take a look.
Before each of the Princesses got into the royal carriage waiting for them, they stopped to hug Ave, "Thank you for allowing us to experience such an amazing thing as baking cookies and cakes and frying potatoes, something I couldn’t have imagined was possible." Thalia giggled as she recalled the shock everyone had when Ave dipped the potatoes in hot oil when it was normally cooked here.
"You are the kindest person I have ever encountered, and sometimes I wonder why I never liked you before now," Celeste remarked as she hugged Ave. "I have never had a friend who cares about my likes and dislikes." She tightened her arms around Ave, recalling how she had made sure she didn’t eat the meals that upset her stomach and offered her ones that would easily digest.
Ave felt a lump of emotion rise to her throat. She had never considered herself a kind person, nor did she realize how much these people she hadn’t known before had come to mean to her now.
"I am glad you enjoyed your time," she smiled and waved them goodnight as they were in a hurry to return. They had left the main palace with the excuse of riding around the palace grounds in the carriage to digest their breakfast, but they had ended up here and spent the whole day.
As the carriage rolled away, Ave was left with Aaron, who stood with his horse at the entrance. "You never cease surprise me, Selene, and I can’t help but wonder what other secrets you have up your sleeves." Said Aaron to Ave as he came to stand beside her, his head tilted to the side as he studied her intensely. "You intrigue me so very much," he muttered.
Uncomfortable with his intense eyes on her, Ave cleared her throat and rubbed her palm against her dress, "I should say the same to you, Your Highness_"
"Aaron," he cut her off.
"What?" She looked taken aback.
"I told you before, you can call me Aaron when it’s just us." He reminded her with a grin that brightened up his entire face.
"Aaron," she said quietly and then continued, "You intrigue me more than you would know as well. And since it’s just you and I here, I want to know this...do we know each other before? I mean, why are you helping me?" She questioned. She was certain she didn’t know him despite the sense of familiarity she felt towards him, but from how he was helping her and the way he looked at her sometimes, she had a feeling there was something he wasn’t telling her. Could it be that he was in some kind of relationship with the real Selene? Was there something between them before she came here?
Her familiarity towards him couldn’t be due to the fact that he had the face of her cousin in the modern world, because she wasn’t even close to that cousin who had made her life hell along with her stepsisters. This had to do with either the real Selene or something else. And from the looks of things, it didn’t seem that he was in a secret relationship with Selene, because if they were, he’d have no reason to hide it when they were alone. He hadn’t made any inappropriate advances like the third prince, so she suspected it was something else entirely.
She saw as Aaron’s smile fell and his face turned somber as he regarded her with a bitter look now, a look she had never seen on his face. "Yes, we knew each other before," he told her in a calm voice.
Ave’s brows drew together as she asked, "Where?" She decided to ask just that so as not to ask too much that might turn out suspicious if he was referring to knowing the real Selene before.
"A very long time ago. And it pains me that I can’t tell you anything more than that yet until you figure it out yourself. But before that day comes, I want you to know that I will always be around if you need anything." He watched the confusion on her face grow even more intense, and he fought the urge to tell her what he was dying to tell her. It wasn’t the right time; he had to wait and be patient until she was ready, or he might end up getting her killed. He had been warned and must not jeopardize fate by spilling out everything to her now.
Apart from her, his lioness was the next most important in his life, and he was willing to protect them both if he had to give his life to do so. Thus, he chose to leave her in the dark about the truth that might reshape the course of her life and change everything. Sometimes, being clueless about somethings was better.
He stared at her for some time before he turned and mounted his horse and rode away before she could recover from her confusion and deep thoughts to question him about anything.
Ave parted and closed her mouth as she watched him ride away on his horse before she could question him. Where did he know Selene? A very long time ago? When was that?
With each passing day, her confusion and frustration seemed to be mounting up to a mountain, and she feared if she didn’t find answers to many things soon, it might drive her crazy. She was done with the Chen kingdom, hopefully if the queen mother didn’t change her mind. And now, she needed to find answers to the most important question before Lucian returned. Why was she here, really?
Glancing up at the crescent moon in the sky, Ave sighed and went back into the palace that had quieted down now that everyone had left and the servants had retired to their quarters. She was walking down the hallways when she reached the passage that led to the South wing of Lucian’s chamber and stopped, she stared at the darkened corridors for some time before her legs began to lead her towards his chamber instead of returning to hers.
When she stood before the door, she reached out and turned the door knob; she wasn’t expecting it to open, but when it did, she only hesitated for a moment and then went inside and closed the door behind her. To her surprise, the chamber wasn’t darkened for the first time; a lamp was burning on the desk.
Ave didn’t know why she had come here, but since she had, she walked around the room, recalling all the times she had come into his room. Since this morning, she had been consumed by work that she hadn’t had the chance to think properly about Lucian, and before she would give herself the chance to indulge in any thoughts of him, she discarded her dress and stripped naked before she trotted towards his bathing room that had a large bath pool.
To her surprise, the pool was also filled with hot water that was steaming the room. She had not expected a lamp to be burning in the chamber, nor had she thought she would find hot water in the pool when he wasn’t even around, but Ave didn’t think too much about it as she was too exhausted and went into the water. She let out a moan as the water seemed to cool her tired and sore muscles from all the bending and moving around in the kitchen.
Ave sat at the edge of the water on the steps and closed her eyes, however, with her eyes closed and her relaxed position, her torturous mind wandered back to last night when she was in the pond with Lucian. She recalled how he had caressed her skin and kissed her senselessly, she recalled his mouth against her nipples, and she felt them harden instantly as if he were here and had touched her again. It was like she was revisiting the time and experience; his warm tongue flicking against her peaks made her toes curl inside the water and made her lower abdomen tighten before a pulse throbbed.
Her skin tingled with heat, and her face heated up as she opened her eyes in embarrassment and realized she was touching her own hardened breast. Dropping her face into her palms in shame, she screamed into her own hands as she hurriedly stepped out of the water and grabbed his robe that was hanging at the side. Wearing his robe only made things worse for her as his scent was all over the fabric, and the moment she wore it, it was like Lucian was here and had hugged her into his warm embrace. She couldn’t believe she was missing the man she used to hate this much, or did she ever even hate him before?
In all of her life, she had never missed anyone, as she had never had an attachment to anything or anyone to miss them when they were gone. She had spent years of her life after leaving the Eamon estate working her head off at different jobs to earn more money to pursue her dream career while she trained as a stunt double; it was one hell of a life for her to even have the time to think of anybody or grow attachment to anyone she had met. She had then gotten lucky to be chosen as the lead actress in her first ever time applying to play a stunt double for Victoria.
The next years of her life after she stepped into the industry had been more stressful as they were the years of her acting in the historical drama series that had made her name known in the entertainment industry and had made her fame skyrocket. However, when she first found herself in this world, she had missed all that she had left behind, but she hadn’t missed them as much as she was missing Lucian at the moment. She missed him so much it caused her heart to ache and her throat to constrict. She felt a huge lump in her throat that refused to go down no matter how much she tried, and with blurry vision, she made her way to his bed and climbed onto it.
The jerk had tricked her into marrying him and yet left the next day after their so-called marriage, and now she was an emotional yo-yo for absolutely no reason. She roughly wiped off her tears, gripped his pillow, and hugged it to her chest before she curled up on his bed and buried her head into his scent. "You better hurry back, or I swear I will kill my feelings for you and return to my time!" She muttered into the pillow and began cursing him once again for the emotions he was drawing out of her, even though he wasn’t here.
