Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 165: Sneaky thief
Chapter 165: Sneaky thief
Ave left Lucian’s chamber humming to herself for no reason, happy that she wasn’t going to end up being taken to Chen. However, as she walked with the food in hand, she couldn’t help herself from the temptation of eating as she walked. She was too hungry, and whenever she was this hungry, her brain seemed to malfunction, just like her heart—or more so, Selene’s heart—malfunctioned whenever she was close to Lucian. Hunger did a lot of things to her brain, and she was certain her hunger had been the reason she had allowed, and even enjoyed, what Lucian had done to her in his chamber.
She was certain if she were in her right mind, she wouldn’t have allowed it or even enjoyed it. But the fact that she hadn’t only enjoyed it but even felt a lot more relaxed and relieved afterward was a clear sign that it was either her hunger or Selene’s body that was the reason. This damn Selene—she might be used to doing it with the third prince, and now that Ave was in her body, she was making her yearn for it with Lucian instead. She wasn’t only yearning for it; she was becoming addicted to his kisses and touch, which was completely out of her quest and mission here.
Ave aggressively tore at the boiled chicken meat in her hand as she cursed savagely. "You little disgusting whore," she gritted, referring to the body she was in. "Don’t you know that for as long as I am in this body, I should take control of it because it is mine? If you want to whore around with the second prince, how about you take me back to my world and my body? You are making me do things I wouldn’t be caught dead doing." She brought the soup up to her mouth and gulped it down as she walked.
"I should meet with the kitchen cook in that doomed palace. I need to learn how to prepare this delicious soup," she muttered to herself as she brought the bowl down and stared at it dreamily, momentarily forgetting that she was on the verge of cursing the spirit of yearning for Lucian out of her body. She resumed eating the last piece of meat in her hand as she walked down the corridor that led to her room. But because she wasn’t watching where she was going, and the person coming toward her seemed to be in a hurry as well, they bumped into each other, the bowl and the small amount of soup left in it spilled on the front of the other person’s dress, who let out a loud gasp.
"Oh my goodness! You blind fool!" Madeline exclaimed as she glared at Ave in disdain and anger. "Look how you’ve ruined my beautiful dress!" she shouted as she stared in disgust at the stain on the front of her off-white dress.
Ave would have apologized had it been someone else, but seeing that it was this arrogant princess who had her face, she frowned and pursed her lips as she looked at her suspiciously. Madeline’s chamber was not on this part of the palace and was on the other side where the guests were; she had no reason to be here, as Ave’s room was here, and the corridor was on the top floor where none of the royals’ chambers were located. That was why she had been eating and walking without any bother to care that someone would see her and question her manners.
What was she doing here? Ave wondered as she bent down and picked up her bowl, hugging it to her chest as she gritted her teeth in annoyance. The last part of the soup she was saving had been wasted on this person.
"What are you doing here, Your Highness?" Ave questioned, her head cocked to the side as she tried to gauge the princess’s expression.
Was she the one who had taken her spell book? Ave wondered, unable to shake the feeling that Madeline had come here for her sake. Not to mention she’d noticed her and that bitch Catherine looking at her this morning in the announcement hall. Could it be that they were planning to do something to her?
Madeline gritted her teeth at the fact that the wench had bumped into her and yet didn’t fall to her knees to apologize to her as any lowly slave would have done. "You seem to have grown longer wings Selene, to think that you dare question me when you are in the wrong."
Madeline had indeed come from Ave’s chamber, where she’d gotten a key to open it from Catherine. She had hoped to find anything that might lead to what Catherine had told her about. But even though she had searched every corner of the room and even lifted the mattress, which had strained her delicate hands and body and made her tired, she had found nothing. Not a trace of evidence that would prove their claims if they were to report her to the Emperor.
Judging from how she had been walking and eating and was now clutching a piece meat in one hand and the bowl in the other hand, Madeline couldn’t believe the Selene she knew would be found doing this. Something had possessed her, and she would expose it to everyone once she found the evidence. However, the fact that she hadn’t found anything in the room ruined her mood further, and now the wench had ruined her precious dress along with her mood.
Ave chuckled at Madeline’s words for a moment, tore at her meat, and then rudely pointed at the princess with it. "You are forgetting that you are in my territory, and there is no one here to make me hold back my words, princess. You trespassed into my territory and yet get offended at the fact that I question what you are doing here when you have no reason to be here. Tsk. Don’t ruin my already ruined mood this afternoon," Ave warned nonchalantly.
All these days, she had held back from talking back to this princess because Lucian had warned her to try not to act like herself in front of the guests. She had taken the insults silently without saying anything to get her in trouble. However, now that they were in a part of the palace where there were no royals, guards, or servants, nothing was going to stop her.
Madeline gasped at her audacity to talk back to her like that and even used the meat in her hand to point at her. No one had ever talked back to her in such a manner. "How dare you talk—"
"Hold it right there, princess." Ave held up her hand to cut her off. "Let’s get straight to the point: what did you take from my room? Give it back before I make you regret it." She held out her hand, as she believed the princess must have taken the spell book she was looking for. She wasn’t going to let her get her into trouble.
"What are you talking about?" Madeline demanded with a little shake in her voice, as it seemed Selene knew that she had gone to her room.
"Don’t act all clueless. I know you go to my room whenever I’m not there, and thank goodness I have caught you in the act now. I want you to give me back what you took. It’s not mine because I found it outside. If you don’t want to face damnation for the rest of your life, hand it to me." Ave would certainly curse her and make sure she faced damnation if she didn’t give it back, but the fact that if anything were to happen to the brat, Ave would cease to exist in the future made her refrain from cursing her right now.
Madeline looked around for someone to show up so she could put this Selene in her place, but when the corridor remained deserted, and the blue in Selene’s eyes regarded her like she would do something to her if she didn’t hand over what she thought she had taken, Madeline wanted to bolt away from there.
"I will make you pay for disrespecting me, Selene," she cried out in disdain as she attempted to sidestep her and make a run for it. But Ave blocked her way. "Not so fast, princess. Hand it to me first, and you can pass." She blew away invisible dust off her nails as she waited for Madeline. But when she noticed the confused look on the princess’s face, and the look in her eyes, Ave narrowed her eyes on her.
"What do you want me to give you? If you don’t move out of my way, I will make sure the Emperor hears about your disrespect," she warned, with a fake bravery she didn’t feel. Catherine had told her how Selene had hit her twice and acted like a mad person; it was said she’d begun to lose her mind after some accident Madeline didn’t care to ask about. But now that she was here with her alone, she couldn’t trust that the madness wouldn’t take over her again.
"You didn’t take anything, did you?" Ave asked with a frown, realizing the princess wouldn’t have come here again if she’d already taken the spell book. She would have run to the Emperor to report it. Someone else had taken it, but it wasn’t Madeline.
Madeline glared at her before she sneered, "What is there to take in a chamber the size of my bathing chamber? You have nothing worth my interest."
"And yet you snuck into it?" Ave laughed humorlessly. "You are not only arrogant but a sneaky thief. If you may please excuse me, Your Highness." Ave bowed in mock respect and walked away from her with a frown. Who could have taken the spell book? she wondered dreadfully. She needed to go to the doomed palace and look for another book that might help her cast a spell on the thief who had taken the spell book before they got her killed!
As Ave entered her chamber, Madeline hurried away from there without wasting time, as she feared that the mad wench might come out of her room again. "Whatever it is, I will not rest until I expose you before my marriage to the second prince," she muttered to herself as she walked with her hands spread in disgust at the soup that had poured on her. She was still walking while looking down at her dress when she heard a growl and stopped to see Annala standing in front of her, baring her teeth dangerously at her.
Madeline stopped in her tracks; she was about to let out a scream when a voice commanded, "Annala, don’t eat my poor sister. Back down." Aaron said as he walked towards the lioness and patted her head, while Madeline let out a loud sigh of relief when the lioness listened to him.
"What are you doing here, Brother Aaron?" Madeline asked, her hand against her frantically beating heart.
A smile graced Aaron’s handsome face as he regarded his sister. "I should be asking you the same, Maddie. What are you doing here?" he asked, his head crooked to the side, even though he knew exactly what she came here to do.
Madeline laughed anxiously as she said, "I was just taking a stroll around the Pendragon palace. It’s bigger than our palace in Banzai so I wanted to get familiar with it before my marriage here."
"Same with me, I was taking a stroll." Aaron replied with a sweet smile. "If you are done taking your stroll, shall we go back to our part of the hall?" he asked with the same sweet smile still on his face, and when Madeline hurriedly nodded and cautiously sidestepped Annala and walked in front of him, Aaron’s smile fell, and a scowl settled on his face as he turned to look towards Ave’s room and then back at Madeline. His fists clenched at his sides.
