Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife
Chapter 133: A witch in the palace

Chapter 133: A witch in the palace

Ave was horrified at the sight of Lydia who laid stiff and pale, she tried to wake the girl up but no matter what, she wasn’t moving. Even her breathing had turned shallow, and her heartbeat faint. She was as cold as ice, and Ave couldn’t help the fear that went through her at the thought that she was too late in coming here.

No matter what the girl had done, Ave would never want her dead. She was just like the younger sister she never had in her time, and she would feel heartbroken if she were to lose her now.

With shaky hands, Ave reached out and retrieved the piece of paper she’d written the spell on from her pocket and placed it on the floor before she brought the lamp in the room after increasing its flames close to where Lydia lay almost dead.

"Lydia," she called coaxingly, "If you can hear my voice, please don’t walk into any light you see. You know, the light that will lead your soul away from the living world. Stay with me here and listen to my voice instead." She said as she spread the paper on the floor to concentrate on the ancient words she’d written there. She wasn’t sure if this was going to work or backfire on her like it had when she had mistakenly healed Lucian’s injury with her blood, but regardless of the outcome, it was worth a try. She just hoped she wouldn’t end up being poisoned as she wasn’t ready to die yet.

Following the instructions, she removed a small hairpin from her hair and used it to pinch her finger to draw blood. She flinched from the pain but didn’t dwell on it. Trembling slightly from fear and anxiety, she used her blood to draw some patterns on the floor, just like it had been said in the book, before she began muttering the incantation under her breath with her eyes closed.

A light seemed to flash around her but she didn’t notice it.

Right at that moment, Ave felt a strange feeling going through her body as she continued to repeat the incantation, and her eyes flew open when a sudden loud rumbling of thunder came from outside, followed by a gust of wind that blew the windows open and made the white plain curtains sway from the wind, causing her to bite the inside of her cheek in nervousness.

Was she the one doing this? She wondered while still saying the incantation, and when she looked down, her eyes rounded when a red glow emitted from the patterns she’d made with her blood on the floor, then it began to glow brighter as it extended towards the unconscious girl on the floor and began to seep slowly into her chest.

Ave watched in astonishment as the glow disappeared into Lydia’s body, and when it completely disappeared, another clap of thunder shook the sky before it began to rain all of a sudden, a heavy downpour that surprised not just Ave but every single person in the palace and in the lands of Pendragon.

It had never rained at this time of the year in Pendragon, and the sudden downpour left everyone confused and wondering what was happening as they rushed to look through their windows to see how the evening sky had suddenly turned a deep moody gray, heavy with thick clouds that hid the last light of the sun.

The rain poured heavily, turning the world into a blur of dark silhouettes and rippling puddles.

"What is going on?" asked the Empress as she rushed to the balcony of the room where she was discussing with her brother to see the rain. A deep frown settled on her face as she muttered, "This has never happened before; it has never rained in the dry season in Pendragon. This is the first time it’s happening..." She trailed off with a thoughtful look on her face.

Reaching out her hand, she let the rain drop on her palm as it suddenly began to subside, and just as it had come, it stopped completely with the sky clearing up like it hadn’t just rained. Except for the wet earth, it almost seemed like the sky hadn’t been pouring down heavily.

"Someone is using magic to control the weather!" she gritted through clenched teeth as she cleaned her wet palm with her handkerchief and turned to her brother and son, whom she had summoned to have a word with.

Caelan relaxed back on the chair he had been sitting in before the sudden rain and scoffed, "Nobody would dare do that in Pendragon when they know the consequences; the weather must be messing up for the first time." He remarked, unbothered by it as that didn’t concern him at all. The witches were disgusting creatures he didn’t want to have anything to do with, and at this point, if it wasn’t something that had to do with him sitting on the throne, he didn’t want to even discuss it.

Elara looked ready to chide her son and make him see that if it was a witch’s doing, they needed to find her/him as they needed as many witches as possible now that they were starting to go extinct. Unless they got more after the war, but then recalling her son was more human than her type and didn’t even need the witches’ blood to maintain his appearance, as he also didn’t know the existence of the night creatures, she held herself back.

Looking towards her brother, Edward, who seemed to understand what she meant with her look, he nodded his head before saying, "If it’s magic, then it seems we have to send men to keep a close eye on the guests and see which of them is responsible for this."

Caelan clicked his tongue, "You two are getting worked up on this like it’s your duty to find those disgusting creatures; let the Emperor handle it and let’s talk about me taking the throne." He stood up and walked towards his mother before dropping his head on her shoulder like the spoiled son he was, and then said, "You said I will have Selene if I were to marry Princess Eve, right? Then why are you planning to send her to sleep with that Ambassador tomorrow?" he asked, displeased.

"Because that is the only way we can secure your position as the next ruler. And if you don’t become the Emperor, how can you have Selene? It’s not like the ambassador will sleep with her forever; it’s just for one night, and after that, she will be all yours."

Caelan didn’t like the thought of that, he couldn’t imagine another man touching that little whore of his. But then, recalling what she had done to him a few days ago in the corridor, he decided to agree with this; it would be another way of teaching her a lesson not to mess with him again. And perhaps after the old son of a whore of an ambassador slept with her, she would come running back to him when she saw and felt the difference.

Pleased with this, he moved away from his mother after kissing her cheek and grinned, "Perfect. Send her to the old fool, and after that Ma, no more men shall touch her but me. She is to be my future concubine, and having many men touch her isn’t going to be good." He ran his fingers through his hair and smoothed the strands before adding after his mother promised him that no man shall touch Selene again.

"By the way, about this upcoming war, I want to talk to you about it. I do not want to be a part of it regardless of what Father said about all of the princes going to fight it. Do whatever you have to do, but please make sure I am not included in it." He proclaimed as he looked from his uncle to his thoughtful mother.

Caelan had never been a fan of fighting with swords or anything that has to do with war; he had escaped every training by tagging along with Alden, who only commanded without lifting a sword to train with the soldiers. He was rather good with women than he was with swords or any other weapons, and he wouldn’t be caught dead going to the witches’ war.

Elara, who heard her son, sighed as she glared at him. "You really didn’t learn anything in any of the training you attended, did you? Would you rather that bastard Lucian take all the praises and credit while you are left behind?" Though she had no intentions of sending her son to war, she hated how he acted like a coward and only depended on her all the time.

Caelan shrugged casually, "Isn’t that what you wanted to happen when you shielded me and threw the cursed bastard to the lion’s den since our childhood?" he said with a clueless expression, ever since he was a boy, he had been shielded like the prince he was while he watched as that cursed Lucian was being sent to many battles along with Alden, despite them being the same age but only months apart.

Before Elara could say anything else, her son had turned on his heels and headed towards the door while saying, "I will see you two at the dining hall, but before then, I’ll be with my future wife; that girl has a lot of learning to do when it comes to pleasing a man. Tsk," he whistled and walked out of the chamber, leaving his mother standing there, stunned.

"It’s indeed your fault, sister; you brought him up like a human, a weak human at that, when he should have been as strong as our kind," remarked Edward with displeasure laced in his voice as he watched his nephew leave the room. If he had been the one to raise the boy, he wouldn’t have been this useless.

Their kind was known for their strength and power; they never hid away from anything and would face any danger head-on, especially when it came to killing and taking the blood of the witches. But Caelan seemed even repulsed at the thought of being anywhere close to them. If he wasn’t their only choice for taking the throne, Edward would have long ago taught the boy a few lessons.

"I didn’t spoil him, I only brought him up the way he should be brought up. He is my only son, the only one I can ever have in my entire life, and I can’t afford to risk losing him because I want him to be strong," Elara said defensively as she walked back into the room from the balcony. Female night creatures rarely even gave birth, and her having Caelan after many missed chances was a miracle she would never take lightly. He was her world, and she would do anything to protect her only son.

Changing the subject, as she knew her brother wouldn’t miss the chance to condemn how she’d chosen to raise her son, she went back to the more important topic. "This rain can’t be natural with the way it suddenly came and went. You have to really search for the person behind it. It must be one of the guests, and you know what to do tomorrow to fish out this witch," she said, giving Edward a look he understood.

"I will fish out the witch. No witch can escape from our special method," he smirked, and then added, "And make sure you talk to Selene and send her there tomorrow after her so called performance."
