Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 124: The light
Chapter 124: The light
Back in the library. Instead of rushing out to help the screaming girl, Lucian didn’t leave the library and also didn’t allow Ave to leave immediately. When she dropped down from the desk he had placed her on, when he was busy messing with her senses, he blocked her from rushing out to see what was happening to Isolde and why she was screaming so loud when it was just a horse and not some beast chasing her.
Ave glared up at him. At this moment, when she feared that something bad might happen to the young girl, she didn’t let her embarrassment make her flustered or shy after what they had been doing before the interruption. "Move aside, Lucian, and let me pass," she said impatiently as another loud scream came from outside.
Zane had already stepped out after informing them what was going on outside, and now that Ave was planning to go after him, this prince was stopping her. She looked up at him, where his amber eyes were glowing dangerously like a demon, or perhaps a devil from hell, and his lips were set in a displeased thin line as he regarded her before saying, "You can’t step out looking like this," he muttered, at the same time he reached out to the strings of her front dress that he had removed when they were still in that heated moment.
Ave swatted his hand away from her chest like she was swatting away a disturbing bee. "Don’t touch me. Just because I allowed you to a moment ago doesn’t mean you can do that again. If you want to molest someone, go meet your future wife, Madeline," she gritted, sounding annoyed now that common sense had returned to her. She had been stupid to have let their kissing go far a while ago, and now that she recalled her reaction to it, she wanted to be far away from him and go kill herself from the embarrassment.
Not paying attention to him again, she hurriedly began tying her strings together as she walked towards the door. She didn’t see the scowl on his hardened face nor the clenching of his fists at his sides as her words went through his head. She thought what they did was him molesting her? And what was that about him going to his future wife, when she was the one he wanted and desired?
Lucian swore a scowl so sharp it could have cut through stone as he gritted his teeth and turned around, only to see the library door hanging open as she had run out to see what was going on outside. That brat Isolde, what had brought her to his palace and even into the stables? He pondered angrily as he walked out to see for himself. The fact that she had interrupted them was enough to make his blood boil with anger.
When Lucian stepped outside his palace, he was surprised by the scene unfolding, and he stopped short in his tracks. Almost all of his palace guards had left what they were doing to watch as Isolde and Heaven ran in circles in the palace grounds, with Harry and Ave now following behind the horse, trying to stop her.
Lucian pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. He hadn’t only been deprived of his time in the library with a woman he desired and had finally allowed him to touch her, but now he had to run after Heaven to tame her. He was in no mood for this, and if it were up to him, he would have shot down Isolde’s legs with an arrow and allowed Heaven to stomp over her and end all this nonsense.
But as if the devils heard his thoughts, the girl tripped over her legs, as she seemed to have been running around for a long time, and fell. She whipped her head around and let out a scream as the horse now stood before her, raising its front legs in an attempt to stomp on the princess.
Lucian cursed under his breath and was about to move forward when, in a flash, Ave was standing between the girl and the mare, her hands up and her blue eyes sharp on the horse’s eyes. And before Lucian knew it, something unexpected happened. He noticed a thin light emit from her fingers and hit the mare’s eyes, and immediately Heaven stepped back, her front legs hitting the ground as she bowed her head to Ave while making sounds.
Lucian quickly scanned the environment to see if anyone had noticed what he’d seen, but he breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that most of the guards had fled the scene when Heaven had seemed like she would kill the princess so they wouldn’t get executed and punished for her death, while the few remaining, which happened to be Hugo and his son, had closed their eyes in fear of seeing the horse stomp on the girl.
While Isolde herself had buried her head between her knees, her shoulders shook uncontrollably as she sobbed. Even Ave’s eyes had shot closed as she thought she’d get hit by the horse, but when she didn’t feel the pain or the hit, she peeked through her lashes and gasped when she saw the mare now sitting before her with her head bowed down as she...
’Rosette, I have been waiting for you to come for a long time. Welcome back.’ Ave heard the horse speak, and her heart dropped to her stomach as she stepped back in fear. She would have fallen back if an arm didn’t come from behind and wrap around her waist to steady her on her feet.
Her head shot up to meet burning flame-like eyes that regarded her with an intensity that made her shiver slightly before she parted her lips and said, "Di-did you hear that? The horse just spoke to me, she..." Ave didn’t get to finish her words before Lucian placed his finger against her lips to shut her up from uttering words like that in the open.
He didn’t hear the horse speak, but he had seen what she’d done.
Ave understood what he meant and decided to ask him that when they were alone, but her eyes trailed back to the mare as she pulled away from Lucian’s grip to rid herself of his scent. She turned back to the horse, but to her surprise, Heaven had gotten up and walked back into the stables, walking like she owned the world as she swung her fluffy white tail behind her and snorted at Hugo, who hurridly moved to the side to allow the temperamental horse to enter the stable.
Ave would have gone after the mare to try to hear the words of the horse again, but Isolde’s loud sobs and Hugo and his son’s presence made her decide against that for now. She turned towards the crying girl, whose light-colored dress now looked dirty, and tears were streaming down her face in earnest as she looked down at her bruised leg where a trace of blood could be seen on her knee where she’d broke her skin from the fall.
Without hesitation, Ave rushed towards her and crouched down before her, only for Isolde to throw herself into Ave’s arms and hug her while she cried. "I...I thought I was going to be killed by that horse, sh-she looked so scary and mad when all I di-did was try to make Harry clean her up! Selene, I have never been this scared in my entire life!!" she cried out loudly, shaking all over in adrenaline and fear, her tears soaking into Ave’s dress.
Ave hugged her closely and ran her hand up and down her spine to console her. "Shh, it’s okay now. The horse is gone," she assured her and patted her like an elder sister would do to her younger one. If she had known this would happen, she wouldn’t have brought the girl with her, she really seemed to have gotten the fright of her life.
And knowing that there was no way she could return the girl to the main palace looking this frightened, she looked up at Lucian, who was towering over them with a blank look on his face.
"Carry her into the palace so I can help her clean up," she said to Lucian, who frowned at that. But instead of carrying his half-sister, he looked around to order Zane, but Zane had gone after Heaven to lock the stall she stayed in. Thus, his eyes fell on Harry, who was looking worried as he had been there with the princess when she opened Heaven’s stall, and for that, his father could lose his job as that would be considered incompetence—an act that almost cost the life of a royal.
Lucian beckoned the young boy, who he’d learned was eighteen, almost nineteen, forward, and Harry hurriedly obeyed and came to stand before him, his head bowed.
"Y-your Highness, please don’t let my father lose his job. It wasn’t his fault, it was mine. And I tried to stop Her Highness from opening the stall but—" he began to say in a hurry, but Lucian’s nonchalant voice cut him off.
"Can you carry her?" He gestured towards Isolde, who was still clutching to Ave and sobbing. He wouldn’t blame any of his guards or the boy for what had happened, as he knew what a brat Isolde could be, and she had taken herself into the stables and opened the stall.
Harry was taken aback by the second prince’s words. He looked towards Isolde, then back at Lucian, before he slowly nodded his head. He had carried heavier things than the young princess, and with how fragile and slender she looked, he could carry her.
"Yes, Your Highness, I can." He answered, grateful that the prince wasn’t blaming either him or his father for the princess’s condition.
"Then go ahead, carry her to the third room on the first corridor you come across after entering the palace," he instructed the boy, who nodded and then hurried to the princess. Even though it was unheard of for a male servant to touch a princess, he dared not refuse when it was the second prince’s orders, especially when his father’s job could be on the line.
When Harry reached where the princess was holding on to Ave, he nervously bent down, and Ave moved back to give him the chance to carry the girl.
Isolde, who had been crying, saw the tan face of the boy that had caused her to be in this condition and immediately stopped crying while she glared at him. Before she could say anything, he had leaned down and swiftly scooped her into his arms, taking her by surprise and causing her arms to automatically wrap around his neck for support as her breath hitched in her lungs.
She stared at his profile, wide-eyed and at a loss for words. If she wasn’t so interested in his voice, she would have put him in his place for daring to touch her like this, but her embarrassment at being carried in a bridal style made her keep silent. Instead, she looked down while she felt him adjust her in his arms before he began to walk inside.
Ave was about to go after them when Lucian’s hand shot out and gripped her arm, his cold fingers wrapping firmly around it—not too firm to bruise her but firm enough to stop her from automatically jerking away from him.
"Let go of me, Your Highness," Ave said formally and firmly, not using his name as she didn’t want to give him the impression that she was free for him to touch again when he would be getting married very soon. She had been stupid earlier in the library, and because she didn’t want him to see that book, she had allowed that to happen between them, and the thought of it alone made her heart tremble and caused heat to surge up her cheeks.
She was embarrassed, and the fact that she was feeling that way made her angry and frustrated, as she was never the kind to feel that way before. The way he had sucked on her breast and touched her—the thought of it made her shudder in pleasure, even though she hated to admit that she had liked it. She didn’t like that she liked it, and she didn’t want herself to like anything about this particular man. Her mission had nothing to do with liking him.
When she tried to jerk her arm away from his grip, he tightened it, and his eyes burned even deeper, his expression turning emotionless and stone-cold as he said, "I am not about to molest you as you accused me of. I just want a word with you." He spoke through clenched teeth, his lips barely moving. For one, he didn’t like the way she called him "Your Highness," and two, he didn’t like that she was looking at him with a look that seemed as if he was going to eat her.
