Chapter 115: Bring her food

Ave, who had already decided to not allow him to make any advances on her as she didn’t want anything to do with him, but the way he had looked at her just now and even seemed like he was stripping her naked with his eyes, made her angry at how her body was quick to react to just his eyes. It was like he had touched her and not just looked at her, and the feelings of her nipples hardening and the warmth that was quick to consume her body made her lose it.

However, his apology and the way he was looking at her right now made her calm down, and she yanked her wrist away from his grip.

Noticing that she had relaxed and didn’t look as mad as she had a moment ago, Lucian gestured towards the drawings, "Can we resume this?" he asked as he looked back at the drawing so he could make her change her mind from throwing him out of the room. Even though he shouldn’t be here with her when they had no relationship, he was starting to like the feeling of sleeping at night like a normal human, and only being with her was it possible.

Ave seemed reluctant to move closer to him again, but since she’d changed into pajama pants and a shirt that covered her completely, she moved towards him, her lips pursed and her eyes cautious as she stood beside him, only for her stomach to let out a loud growl at that very moment, causing Lucian’s head to jerk back towards her, his eyes dropping on her stomach before he looked up at her.

Ave flushed in embarrassment as she hugged her stomach. "Don’t look at me like that. It’s a natural thing for someone’s stomach to make a noise," she grumbled under her breath, but Lucian heard her words.

"You are hungry," he stated the obvious as his lips tugged upward at the corner, and when she nodded her head, he hummed. "I thought as much, judging you don’t finish your meals these days," he remarked nonchalantly, causing a frown to settle on Ave’s face as she couldn’t help but wonder how on earth he knew she hadn’t been finishing her meals lately when they were separated by curtains in the hall.

She was about to ask him how he knew, but she saw him turn his head towards the nightstand at the side of the bed and gesture towards a bundle of something tightly wrapped which she knew hadn’t been in her room before she went into the bathroom. He said with an indifferent expression,

"You can eat that. I reckon you were unable to finish your meals because you were served different ones, which were eaten by the lower-class nobles. I couldn’t finish mine as well, so I brought it here to eat. But since you’re hungry, you can have it," he said, but because he had let his guard down, his beast burst forth in his mind and sneered in disbelief.

’I never knew you were one big liar until today! Such lies, you obviously snuck into the—!’

Lucian immediately shut the beast up before he could point out how he had gotten the food he’d wrapped up and brought here.

Indeed, he had snuck to the kitchen on his way here and wrapped up a few of the dinner remains in a warmer pot and brought it here. Knowing how gluttonous she was, he knew she would probably be starving from eating so little of her meals. He had known about her not eating well because, even though they were separated by a curtain, his eyes were sharp enough to see through the curtains and see where she was sitting.

Ave, who was starving and heard that he had brought food for himself but was giving it to her now, hurried towards it and brought it back to the desk. She unwrapped it and revealed the bowl-like cooler he’d put the food in. Opening the cover, the sweet aroma of a chicken dish she had come to like in this era and made sure to eat much of it every time it was served for dinner swirled to her nose, and she closed her eyes to savor the aroma as she’d missed it.

Those damn royal kitchen cooks, they served her meals without any meat or protein ever since she was divorced by Lucian, and seeing a good meal now, she was quick to grab the spoon at the side to start eating when she stopped, glancing at Lucian, who was not looking at her but at the drawings. She said,

"Since you brought it here for yourself, it will be rude if I eat it alone. How about we eat together?" she suggested. It would not be appropriate to finish his food when he might also be starving.

Since the day she’d come to know him, he rarely ate or finished his meals, and she had always wondered how it was possible for him to maintain this build. And for the first time, he had admitted to feeling hungry and bringing the food to eat. She wouldn’t have the heart to stomach everything while he would be deprived of it. If she were in his shoes, she wouldn’t give her meals away to anyone, and the fact that he had even given her brought an unknown warmth to her heart.

Lucian looked away from the drawing to her as she pushed the food to his front and handed him the spoon. "You can eat and leave some for me," she said.

"I no longer feel like eating, and unless you want me to take that spoon and finish it, you’d better just have it," he uttered calmly and looked away from her, pretending he was busy with the drawings and not interested in her or the food, meanwhile, his attention was on her. He had brought it for her and not himself, and chicken dishes weren’t something he even liked to eat.

Pursing her lips, Ave asked, "Are you certain you won’t regret it once I finish it?" But when he didn’t reply, she glared at him and pulled back the food to her front. She walked up to the other side of the room, dragged a small stool from the side, and brought it to the other side of the desk to sit on it and eat.

Whenever Ave was hungry, when she finally found food, she always forgot to consume it slowly and would eat fast. It was something she’d grown up with from childhood after being raised without proper meals. She started eating like that but recalled how Lucian had been irritated at her when they went to eat at the eatery in town. Then she decided to stand up and move to the bed as to not disgust him.

She was about to walk to the bed when he glanced at her, questioning, "What’s wrong? You don’t like the food?" he asked, a little crease between his brows as he wondered why she was standing up when she had already started eating.

She scoffed and sent a glare at him. "Well, duh. The last time I ate in your presence at the eatery, you got pretty irritated with my eating habits, so I am saving you the displeasure of having to witness me eat again." The thought of that day alone always made her feel a slight ache in the chest. Everyone had that one thing they take personally when pointed out, and hers was being insulted for the way she ate. It wasn’t that she ate loudly; it was how fast she finished the meal and stuffed her mouth.

She was about to walk past him when she stopped, not on her own will but because he had grabbed her wrist to stop her. She felt his cold fingers wrap around her wrist in a way that sent an electrifying jolt to her nerves that made her quickly pull away and turn to look at him over her shoulder.

Without looking away from her, he said calmly, "Your eating habits didn’t irritate me then, and they don’t now. You don’t need to change or adjust yourself based on someone else’s reactions. It’s not something you should worry about. Sit down and finish your meal," he assured her without explaining further that he had been irritated that day not because of her eating habits but because he had been turned on by her tongue peeking out to lick her lips.

In fact, he found the way she could eat quickly adorable and amusing.

Ave hesitated for just a moment before she returned to her original position and sat back down to finish her meals while also trying to control the way her heart had missed a beat at his reassurance. He hadn’t been irritated at her eating that day, so why had he left looking so irritated? She wondered, but it no longer mattered anymore now that he’d said these words.

She had been called names before in high school for eating fast, and it had been a subconscious act that always occurred when she was starved at home and finally got the food. Now, she controlled it, even though he had assured her. She ate her meal slowly and in silence because Lucian also didn’t bother to ask her any questions while she ate.

Not until Lucian felt she was done eating did he look up at her. But the moment he looked up, the first thing his eyes saw was the little piece of meat stuck to the side of her mouth.

Ave, who was about to stand up, saw his hand shoot up toward her, and she instinctively closed her eyes only to feel his thumb swipe the side of her lips. Her eyes flew open at the same time she watched him take the same thumb he had used to wipe her mouth and a little piece of meat on it into his mouth. He licked off the meat piece, causing a rush of heat to surge to her neck. He then resumed flipping through the other drawings to rearrange them like he hadn’t just licked off something that had come out of her mouth.

Ave was going to speak when she saw his eyes narrow down at one of the drawings, his brows drawing together into a deep frown before he lifted it up and turned it toward her. "Why did you draw this? What does it mean?" he questioned, not liking what was drawn there or the feeling of unease that rose up in his chest at the sight.

Ave looked down at the drawing, and all the color drained from her face. She turned ghostly pale as she realized she hadn’t meant to draw it among everything else, but her emotions earlier had caused her to.
