Chapter 59: 059 Beating someone up
Tian Sisi rested on the ground for quite a while, gradually regaining her energy. Seeing Zhong Yuying being flanked by Zhong Meiying, Zhong Anmei, and Zhong Juying, her rage surged instantly. "Zhong Yuying, you son of a bitch, I’ll flatten you."
Tian Sisi immediately stood up and charged towards Zhong Yuying. Seeing the furious Tian Sisi, Zhong Yuying internally cursed her luck, but still tried to smile and said, "Sisi, I’m so glad you’re alright."
"Zhong Yuying, no need for your pretense, you bad egg. Is it because I refused to give you the hairpin that you pushed me into the pit? How can you be so malicious?" Tian Sisi said this deliberately, she had her own ill intentions, wanting to make Zhong Yuying feared by everyone in Yuequan Village.
Tian Sisi’s words provoked a commotion among the girls. They had never expected the usually gentle and kind Zhong Yuying to be such a person. Dare to kill someone? Although everyone now knew the tiger pit wasn’t that terrifying, who knew that before? Zhong Yuying wanted to kill Tian Sisi!
Thinking about this, the girls’ backs went cold, especially the one who had just reported Zhong Yuying. She was even more frightened. Tian Sisi was pushed into the tiger pit just over a few hairpins, and now she herself had reported Zhong Yuying. Wouldn’t Zhong Yuying retaliate even more viciously against her? The girl trembled, fearing the day she might fall victim to Zhong Yuying’s cruelty.
Although Zhong Meiying and the others had suspected the connection between Tian Sisi’s fall and Zhong Yuying, they didn’t expect Zhong Yuying to be so ruthlessly malicious. They all looked at Zhong Yuying with unfriendly eyes. Zhong Yuying forced a smile and said, "Sisi, it’s a misunderstanding, I was just joking with you. I’ve known for a long time that the tiger pit isn’t deep."
"Joking? Zhong Yuying, then let me ’joke’ with you as well."
Tian Sisi couldn’t be bothered to waste words. She leaped up and started pummeling Zhong Yuying, who wanted to resist but was pinned down tightly by Zhong Meiying and the rest. Tian Sisi cursed as she beat her, "I’ll teach you to push me, to try to take advantage of me all the time, to always be so hypocritical."
Tian Sisi was truly enraged. She knew Zhong Yuying was no good but didn’t expect her to be this vicious. She had never been wronged this much in her past or present life! Luckily she was fortunate today, what if she had fallen into a deep pit or off a cliff? She would have had to be reincarnated again, and who knows if she’d have such good luck next time? What if she ended up in the primeval or slave society; wouldn’t she be at a huge loss then?
The more Tian Sisi thought about it, the more frightened she got, her strikes becoming heavier. Zhong Yuying was beaten until she cried out, her face bruising and swelling. He Xuewen, however, looked on with a cheerful grin. His little treasure was just like her mother, with equally sharp claws! He just didn’t know whether Xiulian was alive or dead. The joy of finding his daughter diminished somewhat with the thought of his wife whose fate was unknown.
Upon hearing that it was Zhong Yuying who had pushed Ah Nan, Granny Zhao’s fury also flared. She never liked this young lady named Zhong Yuying, just like her parents—so status-seeking. But there was nothing she could do previously since Ah Nan liked playing with her. Granny Zhao was quite happy when Ah Nan stopped playing with Zhong Yuying after the new year, but she never imagined Zhong Yuying would resort to such a malicious act, pushing Ah Nan into the tiger pit. Thankfully it wasn’t deep; had it been, Ah Nan... Granny Zhao didn’t dare to continue that thought.
Although Granny Zhao also detested Zhong Yuying, being an elder, it wouldn’t be appropriate for her to join in the beating like Sisi. But Granny Zhao had made up her mind to have a serious talk with Zhong Yuying’s parents, Zhong Liangcai and his wife, about this. She had kept to herself for many years, apparently, the people in the village had forgotten about Granny Zhao’s renown from years past.
Tian Sisi, having beaten to her heart’s content, waved her sore hand and bitterly said to Zhong Yuying, "From now on, don’t show your face around me, or I’ll beat you every time I see you."
He Xuewen coldly stared at Zhong Yuying on the ground. His daughter was still too kind-hearted. For such a ruthless person, one cannot afford to be softhearted. Well, let him take over the protection of his daughter from now on. As long as he lived, no one would harm his Little Treasure.
Old Man hadn’t said a word since Tian Sisi started beating someone. Seeing his granddaughter return tired, he asked, "Does your hand hurt?"
"Yeah, it’s killing me, Grandpa, and my butt hurts like hell too," Tian Sisi complained to Old Man.
Hearing this, Granny Zhao got anxious, "Then why aren’t you going home to apply some medicinal oil right away? Be careful it doesn’t turn into a chronic injury."
Old Man called He Xuewen and his son to come home for a meal, while Tian Sisi thanked Zhong Meiying and the others. She had noticed their righteous support just now, and each of them shared a handful of Qingming grass with Tian Sisi, who didn’t hesitate to accept and filled her basket to the brim.
Smiling, Tian Sisi said, "Once Granny wraps the Qingming Cakes, I’ll treat you all to some."
"Okay, I’ll have the salty ones," Zhong Anmei agreed readily.
"Then I’ll have the sweet ones," Zhong Meiying initially wanted to decline, but seeing Zhong Anmei being so forthright, she too expressed her preferences without wanting to be outdone.
Zhong Juying murmured softly, "I’m easy-going, anything is fine for me. I’m not fussy."
Tian Sisi said with a beaming smile, "There’s enough for everyone, both sweet and salty. I’ll make sure you all get your fill."
Granny Zhao also thanked all the girls present and promised that once the Qingming Cake was ready, Tian Sisi would deliver it to them. The other girls laughed bashfully, feeling as though they hadn’t contributed much, but deep down, everyone was thrilled. The Qingming Cake made by Sisi’s house was known to be delicious, with plenty of rice flour and meat in the filling, unlike in their own homes where Qingming grass was the abundant ingredient, with the filling mostly consisting of pickled vegetables and bamboo shoots, and at most a bit of tofu.
The sun was about to set, and Zhong Meiying, along with the other girls, bid their farewells and left. The Old Man and his company also began to slowly descend the mountain. Soon, only Zhong Yuying, with her disheveled hair, was left alone on the hillside. There was no one waiting for her. Zhong Yuying slowly picked herself up from the ground, calmly tied up her loose hair, and straightened her clothes. Even though Tian Sisi had beaten her fiercely, her strength was limited, so Zhong Yuying’s injuries weren’t severe – they were just unsightly at worst.
Zhong Yuying chuckled at herself in self-ridicule. Today she had truly been blinded by stupidity. Why couldn’t she have just been a little more patient? Why did fate have to mock her like this? The elders always said the tiger pit was very deep, that falling into it meant certain death, yet it turned out to be only shallow. Had she known the tiger pit was so shallow, she definitely wouldn’t have done such a foolish thing today.
Zhong Yuying realized that after today’s events, she wouldn’t stand a chance in the village anymore. When she got back home, she didn’t even want to think about how her parents would deal with her. Having offended the highest-status Tian Family from Yuequan Village, given her father’s temperament, he would probably take her to the Tian Family’s doorstep to atone with her death. Thinking of her father Zhong Liangcai’s ruthless nature, Zhong Yuying shivered, and only then did she start to feel a hint of regret.
She couldn’t just sit around and wait for her fate; she had to escape. But where could she flee to? With not a cent on her, even if she managed to escape, she wouldn’t survive for long. Zhong Yuing felt her future was bleak, unable to see a glimmer of hope.
Just as Tian Sisi and her group reached halfway down the mountain, they encountered Tian Xinhua rushing towards them, out of breath. After carefully examining Tian Sisi up and down and seeing that aside from being a bit disheveled, she was unharmed, Tian Xinhua finally relaxed. He scolded her sternly, "What did I tell you? To stay away from that Zhong Yuying. You just don’t listen. Now do you realize how serious it is?"
"I didn’t provoke her. Who knew she would attack from behind?" Tian Sisi felt wronged, she truly hadn’t expected Zhong Yuying to be so vicious.
"Alright, alright, Ah Nan couldn’t have known what kind of person Zhong Yuying was. From now on, you better learn your lesson and stay well away from her when you see her," Granny Zhao spoke up for her.
Tian Sisi obediently agreed. Tian Xinhua, squinting his eyes, radiating a cold glare, thought to himself, Zhong Yuying, I will deal with you in due time!
"Brother Xin Hua, carry me," Tian Sisi took the chance to act spoiled, as she didn’t feel like walking.
"Did you sprain your ankle?" Tian Xinhua thought Tian Sisi might have hurt her foot.
"No, my bottom hurts."
"Do you walk with your bottom?" Tian Xinhua gave her an exasperated glance, but still bent down and carried Tian Sisi on his back.
