Chapter 67: Director Guo led astray?
Everyone couldn’t help but glance at Qin Yan.
This change in Director Guo had only happened after Qin Yan had pretended to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Was this the catalyst that had led Director Guo astray?
The group walked toward the competition site.
It was one of the indoor stadiums within Beijing University.
"The site has been completely set up for the competition," Mr. Liao explained. "We have already tested all the buzzers repeatedly. We guarantee that there are no issues with them."
No one was worried about this.
Beijing University had a reputation to keep up. They wouldn’t do any underhanded things just to ensure anyone’s victory.
Everyone looked around at it.
They saw five words—The Sixth National Brain Challenge—was displayed boldly on a large screen.
Soon, the screen changed and started to play some clips from previous competitions without any audio.
Qin Yan knew that most of this competition in the past few years was won by Jixia Academy.
This year, the stage would belong to Shengyang High school.
Six podiums were arranged in the middle of the stage.
Everyone knew that these were for the representatives of the six competing schools.
"Everyone can take a short break now, and snacks will be served shortly. Here’s a lunch card for everyone. Just head to the canteen for dining services at mealtimes," Mr. Liao explained.
"Also we have arranged the nearby hotel for you guys to stay. The teacher with you can follow with the check-in procedure," Mr. Liao instructed.
Mr. Lao took the students to the hotel and completed the check-in procedure. After giving out the room number to everyone, he asked everyone to return to their respective rooms first.
After tidying themselves up for an hour, they would gather in the hotel lobby for the announcement of the competition rules for tomorrow.
Since there were five girls and five boys in the Shengyang team this time, there was an odd number of students of both genders.
Therefore, Han Jun was delegated one room while Qin Muran would stay in the other.
Qin Yan was arranged in a room with Qiao Qing.
Qin Yan entered the room and looked around. The room had two bunk beds and was adequately spacious. It was just for two people and like a dormitory.
Qin Yan unpacked her luggage and arranged her items in the cupboard. She was a systematic person. After the usage of the items, she would pack them again in the bags so that none of the items would be left behind.
After unpacking, Qin Yan went for a shower. Qiao Qing had already had one. After freshening up, all the students gathered in the hotel lobby.
Mr. Lao started to announce the things to take note of for tomorrow’s competition.
This year, the competition format was changed to a knock-out style.
"That means that every team will send out one member. During the round, the contestant with the highest points will progress to the next round, while the other teams will have to swap out. Every round will continue in this manner," Mr. Lao instructed.
All the contestants gasped.
"This competition format is quite cruel."
"This year the rules of the competition have changed. This is one of the changed rules that we know. We do not know about anything else. But that doesn’t mean that only this rule was changed. So you have to be prepared," Mr. Lao instructed.
There were ten contestants from Shengyang High school. Jing Zhao and Ying Siyuan were from Class one. Shen Hongshan, Wang Yuemu and Pu Xinyan were from class two. Qin Muran and Chen Shihua were from Class three. Finally, Qin Yan, Han Jun and Qiao Qing were from Class Four.
"Now what we need to do is to arrange how the contestants will go on the stage," Mr. Lao said.
Director Guo interrupted at this time, "We will divide you according to ranks. Each student who was ranked highest in their class would go on the stage first."
"According to this, Jin Zhao from Class one will go up first. If he is eliminated, Wang Yuemu will succeed him. After Wang Yuemu, Qin Muran will go up the stage and Qin Yan will be the last. If all these students are eliminated, then seconds from each class will proceed accordingly."
"Is this okay with everyone?" Director Guo asked.
"Yes!" everybody answered in unison.
"Okay, now you can have your meals and then rest," Mr. Lao instructed everyone.

The next day.
"Are you going to watch the competition?"
"There’s nothing better to do, so I might as well."
"We have won for quite a few years now, and it seems that it will be the case also this year, so of course we’ll have to watch," said someone who had come from Jixia Academy to support the team.
"I heard from the student council that some students from Shengyang High school also came to support their team too."
"They don’t have as many tickets as we do though, so they definitely won’t have as many supporters as we do. It’s still to our advantage."
"It seems like the students from Jixia Academy are really confident this year," commented Ying Siyuan.
"Of course they are. We have let them win the competition for quite a few years now. Unfortunately, we have lost several years in a row." Wang Yuemu sighed.
Right as they were discussing this, they suddenly heard a defiant voice from behind them. "How come all those from Jixia are acting like this? They only seem to see those from Shengyang as their competitors. It’s as if they think that if they can beat Shengyang they’ll automatically win the competition. They didn’t even take a single look at the other four schools."
"Yes, they only think that Shengyang is capable of their attention, whereas we people are just insignificant in their eyes."
"I hope they get their faces slapped this year. Damn! I hate people from Jixia Academy."
"Me too. Atleast students from Shengyang are quite decent. They don’t look down on us. But those from Jixia are simply detestable."
