Chapter 610: Invitation to Madam Xi
Liu Ying’s feelings of being outcasted weighed heavily on her heart, casting a shadow over the once-hopeful dreams she had of reuniting with her son. Despite her best efforts to integrate herself into their lives, she couldn’t shake the sense of being an outsider looking in, a spectator to a family dynamic in which she had no place.
Feeling increasingly isolated and overlooked, Liu Ying sought solace in the presence of Madam Xi. She extended an invitation to Madam Xi for dinner at Moonlight Villa.
"Liu Ying, what’s on your mind?" Madam Xi inquired; her curiosity piqued by the unusual invitation.
With a gentle smile, Liu Ying replied, "Madam Xi, I’ve always admired your kindness and wisdom. And I really miss spending time with you these days. My parents had passed away early and you gave me the feelings and care of my mother. So, I want to cook for you. I would be very happy if you come. Anyway, it has been a while since we met each other."
As Liu Ying spoke, her words carried a sincerity that was palpable, her compliments heartfelt and genuine. She highlighted Madam Xi’s unique qualities—the kindness that radiated from her actions, the wisdom that shone through her words.
Madam Xi was coaxed by Liu Ying as she did not get such praises either from Qin Yan or from her mother-in-law. Thus, she agreed for dinner at the Moonlight villa.
As Madam Xi agreed to Liu Ying’s invitation, a radiant smile spread across Liu Ying’s face, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. Though her thoughts remained a mystery to those around her, she wasted no time in springing into action.
With a newfound sense of purpose, Liu Ying dove into preparations for the dinner with Madam Xi. She moved swiftly around the kitchen, her hands deftly chopping, stirring, and seasoning with practiced precision. Each dish she prepared was crafted with care, a testament to her desire to make the evening special for Madam Xi.
From fragrant stir-fries to savory soups and mouthwatering mains, Liu Ying pulled out all the stops, determined to impress Madam Xi with her culinary skills. She poured her heart and soul into each dish, infusing them with love and dedication, much like a painter adding the final strokes to a masterpiece.
Taking into account Xi Xiaobao’s preferences, she incorporated flavors and ingredients that she knew would appeal to his palate. From hearty and comforting dishes to light and flavorful options, Liu Ying curated a menu that would satisfy his appetite and bring a smile to his face.
At the same time, Liu Ying didn’t forget about Qin Yan’s dietary needs. With gentle consideration, she crafted a selection of light and nourishing dishes, mindful of Qin Yan’s journey towards recovery. Each dish was designed to be both delicious and gentle on Qin Yan’s stomach.
As the aromas of her cooking filled the air, Liu Ying’s excitement grew, her anticipation building with each passing minute. She couldn’t wait to share this meal with Madam Xi, to see her reaction to the feast she had prepared.

As Xi Ting sat in his office, engrossed in his work, his phone rang, disrupting the steady rhythm of his day. With a furrowed brow, he answered the call, only to hear his mother’s voice on the other end.
"Xi Ting, I just wanted to let you know that I’ll be joining you guys for dinner at Moonlight Villa tonight," Madam Xi informed him, her tone decisive.
Xi Ting’s heart sank at the news. He knew all too well the strained relationship between Madam Xi and Qin Yan, and the thought of them sharing a meal together filled him with unease. He knew that Madam Xi would definitely say or do something which would make Qin Yan upset and he didn’t want his cookie to suffer more. However, Madam Xi was not asking for his permission but informing him, so he couldn’t say anything.
Xi Ting then informed Qin Yan of Madam Xi’s plans for dinner. Upon receiving the news from Xi Ting about Madam Xi’s impending arrival, Qin Yan remained outwardly composed, though a flicker of discomfort passed through her eyes. She was not very comfortable with Madam Xi. If it was Old Madam Xi instead of Madam Xi, Qin Yan would have been more than happy to welcome her. But Madam Xi...Qin Yan was not happy to have her at home.
As Qin Yan descended the stairs, the sight of Liu Ying bustling about in the kitchen, preparing a feast for Madam Xi, caught her off guard. A pang of unease washed over Qin Yan as she realized that Liu Ying had been aware of Madam Xi’s impending visit all along.
A flurry of questions raced through Qin Yan’s mind. Had Liu Ying orchestrated Madam Xi’s invitation? Did she know more than she let on? But despite her curiosity, Qin Yan hesitated to confront Liu Ying, unsure of how to broach the subject without causing tension.
Instead, she forced a smile and greeted Liu Ying with a polite nod, masking her inner turmoil beneath a facade of composure.
Qin Yan knew that Liu Ying did not like Xi Xiaobao’s closeness to her. No matter how much Liu Ying concealed her emotions, Qin Yan could read even smallest of her facial expression changes. However, Qin Yan knew that Liu Ying was not at fault for thinking like this.
Qin Yan understood all too well the pain of feeling overlooked and sidelined, and she couldn’t fault Liu Ying for feeling disheartened by Xi Xiaobao’s seemingly closer bond with her. Despite being his biological mother, Liu Ying had struggled to establish a connection with Xi Xiaobao, while Qin Yan, despite not sharing a blood tie, had effortlessly won his affection and care. Any mother would feel pained on seeing this.

As dinner time approached, the air in Moonlight Villa was charged with anticipation. Madam Xi’s arrival was met with a warm welcome from Liu Ying, who greeted her with genuine enthusiasm, her smile bright and her demeanor gracious.
Qin Yan stood nearby, her own greeting to Madam Xi filled with polite courtesy. Madam Xi responded warmly to Liu Ying’s welcome, but her greeting to Qin Yan felt a bit distant, as if she was just going through the motions. Qin Yan couldn’t help but notice the difference in Madam Xi’s demeanor towards her compared to Liu Ying—warm and genuine with the latter, but cool and perfunctory with herself. Despite the chilly reception, Qin Yan remained composed, smiling politely and engaging in small talk.
As dinner time rolled around, Xi Xiaobao entered the dining room, his face lighting up in surprise at the sight of his grandmother. "Grandma, you’re here! I didn’t know you were coming," he exclaimed, rushing over to give her a warm hug.
Madam Xi smiled at her grandson’s enthusiasm, returning his hug with affection. "I wanted to come and spend some time with you all," she replied, her tone softening slightly.
Meanwhile, Xi Ting, having just returned from the office, greeted his mother with a smile before taking his seat next to Qin Yan. Madam Xi’s smile faltered slightly as she watched her son and grandson take their seats beside Qin Yan, leaving her feeling somewhat isolated.
However, this atmosphere did not remain like this for long. With a warm smile, Liu Ying emerged from the kitchen, carrying a tray laden with steaming dishes. As she placed them on the table, she turned to Xi Xiaobao with a twinkle in her eye.
"Xiaobao, I made sure to prepare all your favorite dishes tonight," she said, her voice filled with affection as she gestured towards the array of mouthwatering delights before him. The little boy glanced at the array of his favorite dishes laid out before him and smiled lightly at Liu Ying, "Thank you," he replied politely.
Liu Ying felt bad as the little guy did not respond as she wished to, but she did not show any unhappiness on her face.
She instead turned to Qin Yan and with a gentle touch, pushed a few dishes towards Qin Yan, her eyes warm with sincerity.
"Miss Qin, I made some dishes especially for you," Liu Ying said softly, her voice laced with warmth. "I wanted to make sure you had something you’d enjoy."
Qin Yan appreciated Liu Ying’s thoughtful gesture but her heart did not feel at ease. Still, she thanked the latter, "Thank you, Miss Liu. That’s very kind of you."
As Madam Xi observed the spread of dishes before her, her eyes widened in pleasant surprise. She couldn’t help but be impressed by the variety and thoughtfulness of the meal that Liu Ying had prepared. It was evident that Liu Ying had put in a great deal of effort to cater to everyone’s tastes and preferences, including Madam Xi’s own favorites.
A sense of admiration swelled within Madam Xi as she watched Liu Ying bustling about the table, ensuring that each dish was placed just so. It was clear to her that Liu Ying possessed the qualities she valued in a daughter-in-law—diligence, thoughtfulness, and a genuine desire to care for her family.
