Chapter 587: The diagnosis results

The next morning.

It was quiet around Qin Yan’s ward in the Angel hospital.

Xi Ting had sat before Qin Yan’s bed quietly for the whole night. The past three months was more than enough time for him to finish everything he had to until he could not find anything else to numb himself.

Time passed by. Finally, the clock hands pointed at 6 o’clock. It was exactly three months since Qin Yan had fallen unconscious.

Qin Yan had not been officially diagnosed in a vegetative state before. A person in a vegetative state was meant for people who were still unconscious after three months...The biggest chance for the patient to wake up was within the first three months. After that, the chances would be miraculously low.

The girl was lying quietly on the bed as if she was just asleep. Her external wounds had almost healed under Xi Ting and the hospital’s care and she looked like a normal person sleeping peacefully. Everything looked just like before at home, like the world around them was still at peace.

Sadly, the reality was cruel. The girl he loved might never speak again. She might never give him any reaction, might never wake up again...

The man held the girl’s hand and leaned his head into her hand, mumbling quietly, "Yan Yan, I’m sorry... I might... not be as strong as you think..."

I just found out that I’m nothing without you...

I realized all my weaknesses...

Xi Ting had held onto this day as it was the day of hope for him. He had made an appointment with a specialist team to do a full body checkup for Qin Yan. He hoped that he would receive a positive news from the doctor.

At 10 o’clock, all the members of the Xi family came to the hospital except the little bun. Because of the little guy’s condition, the Xi family wanted to keep him out of harm.

The team of doctors arrived in Qin Yan’s room and started examining her.

Madam Xi peered into the room. "How’s Qin Yan’s condition?"

"What did the specialists say?" Master Xi asked.

Xi Ting stood there quietly, "Let’s wait for the results."

After a while, the team of specialists was done with the checkup. They had a short meeting before coming out of the room.

No one said a word as they just waited for the results in silence.

The lead specialist said with a heavy tone, "During this whole time, the patient’s condition... didn’t change much... Our diagnosis results are the same as last time."

What? Until now the results were still the same as before? Had Yan Yan not become any better at all?

Old Master Xi asked what was on everyone’s mind, "Is there still any possibility of Yan Yan waking up?"

The lead specialist fidgeted uneasily and he spoke in a roundabout way, "Pardon my straightforwardness. The chances of her waking up were the highest in the past three months. After these three months, the possibility of her waking up is... extremely low... The patient’s bodily functions will start to degenerate gradually..."

The air was heavy after the specialist finished the report. Everyone’s hearts sank as their expectations were crushed heavily.

Xi Ting stood there in silence. He did not have any expression on his face after he heard the results. He had looked through mountains of books and information relating to Qin Yan’s condition in these past few months, and he was sort of half a specialist now. It was exactly as he had predicted. He knew it all along, but he had to be there to hear the results personally.

After hearing the results, Xi Ting walked out lifelessly into the corridor. He had become numb till now. He was trying very hard to hold himself up so that when his cookie woke up, he would be there to see her. However, as the time passed, it was getting harder for him. He just wanted to give up. After today’s results, his remaining hopes were also dashed. He sat numbly on the bench with his head hung low.

Madam Xi walked towards her son and was totally heartbroken to see his state. She had never seen Xi Ting in this condition. Her son always appeared to be strong and like he could carry everything on his shoulders. But now, he looked like a frail man who even found it hard to survive. All this was because of a woman. God knows what she did for her son and grandson both to turn out this way.

Madam Xi couldn’t bear it any longer. She sat beside Xi Ting.

"Ah Ting, get a hold of yourself. Life doesn’t end here."

Xi Ting did not glance in the direction of Madam Xi but the latter knew that he was listening to her.

She gently placed a hand on his shoulder acknowledging the pain that he was suffering.

"Ah Ting," Madam Xi’s voice was tender but firm, as she turned her attention to her grief-stricken son. "I know it is very hard for you but we have to face the reality that Qin Yan may never wake up. And being stuck on her won’t do anyone any good. You trying to keep her alive by providing her machinery support doesn’t mean that she is really alive.

Because you’re constantly in the hospital taking care of her, you have not even looked once at your own son who is suffering from a shock. He doesn’t speak neither does his face show any emotions. He is like a lifeless doll just like a miniature version of you. It’s time to think about his well-being and his future."

Xi Ting looked up at Madam Xi with red eyes.

Madam Xi did not understand that her son was getting angry at her words. She felt that he wanted her to continue as he had looked at her.

"Liu Ying is a good girl. From the time she had known that Bao Bao is her son, she had left no stone unturned in getting close to him. She has been a constant presence here, taking care of Xiaobao even when there’s no response. Even when you did not care about your own son, she has been there to lift his spirits up. She is his biological mother, and she has shown unwavering devotion to him," Madam Xi explained, her words carrying the weight of a difficult decision. "I believe it’s time for you to consider letting go of Qin Yan and marrying Liu Ying, for Xiaobao’s sake. You need a partner and Bao Bao needs a mother. Who can be better than a biological mother? Even though you don’t love her now, I believe that after getting married and staying together, you will gradually develop feelings for her. Don’t arranged marriages work like this? Your marriage will also work."

"Mom," Xi Ting raised his hand to stop his mother from spouting more nonsense, "That’s enough! Please stop!"

Madam Xi was enraged to see her son’s disrespectful attitude, "Ah Ting, what kind of attitude is this? Is this the way you behave with your mother?"

Xi Ting was tired. He was already exhausted from within and dealing with his mother was even more tiring for him.

"Mom, I’ll tell you for the first and the last time. Qin Yan is irreplaceable in my life. Nobody can take her place and I believe that it is the same case with my son too. If that woman was really able to come close to my son, he would have started speaking by now. So, stop encouraging me to let go of Qin Yan and marry Liu Ying. It’s never going to happen."

"But why, Ah Ting? Liu Ying is a good girl. Why do you want to let her go because of a dead woman?"

"MOM!" Xi Ting’s eyes bulged with anger.

Madam Xi had never seen her son so angry. She took a few steps back in fear. It seemed like if she said another word, Xi Ting would not hesitate to kill her.

In this confrontation, Xi Ting and Madam Xi heard a mocking applause from behind them.

As they turned around, they saw the Nie family standing behind them.
