Chapter 581: Liu Ying tries to come closer to the little bun

Time passed by and Liu Ying had already visited the Xi mansion two to three times and looked at the little bun from afar. She did not show any displeasure to Xi family’s requests and patiently did everything that Madam Xi told her to do. This made Madam Xi quite impressed by her.

After a few days, after speaking to the psychiatrist, Master Xi and Madam Xi decided to let the little guy meet with Liu Ying. However, they were informed by the psychiatrist to not let the little bun know that Liu Ying was his mother as he could not absorb such a big information in this state. Liu Ying had to try slowly to get closer to the little guy and when they were close enough, only then could she tell him that he was her biological child.

Thus, today, Madam Xi had invited Liu Ying for dinner and was to introduce her as her friend’s daughter. She wanted Liu Ying to become friends with the little bun first by playing with him or by taking pleasure in his interests.

The warm glow of the dining room chandelier illuminated the Xi family as they gathered for a simple evening dinner. Master Xi and Madam Xi sat at the head of the table; their anticipation evident as they awaited Liu Ying’s arrival. Xi Xiaobao, normally withdrawn, was brought down from his room by a nanny, the hushed echo of his silent steps filling the air.

As the doorbell chimed, signaling Liu Ying’s arrival, Madam Xi welcomed her with a gracious smile. The family rose to greet her, and soon they were all seated around the elegantly set dinner table.

The dinner table was adorned with an array of delectable dishes such as steamed dumplings, stuffed with a medley of vegetables, sat gracefully beside succulent braised pork. Stir-fried seasonal greens, adorned with a hint of garlic, added a vibrant burst of color to the table. Colorful vegetable stir-fry with a hint of sweetness and bite-sized chicken nuggets along with a small bowl of fluffy white rice was specially prepared for the little bun.

As everyone took a seat, Madam Xi took the opportunity to introduce Liu Ying to the little bun.

"Bao Bao, this is Aunty Ying. She is the daughter of my friend and has joined us for dinner today. Say hello to aunty."

The little guy remained silent; his gaze fixed on the table. Liu Ying, undeterred, offered a genuine smile, attempting to break the ice.

"It’s a pleasure to be here. I’ve heard so much about you, Xiaobao. Your grandmother speaks highly of you."

The little bun still remained silent, his gaze diverting to his plate. He picked up the vegetables on the table and placed them in his plate before he started eating slowly.

Observing Xi Xiaobao carefully selecting vegetables for his plate, Liu Ying seized the opportunity to initiate a conversation, hoping to bridge the gap between them.

She said with a warm smile, "Xiaobao, I must say, it’s wonderful to see you enjoying those vegetables. Not many children have such a healthy appetite for them."

Liu Ying wanted to get close to the little guy but she did not know that she had said something which made everyone remember Qin Yan.

As Liu Ying complimented Xi Xiaobao for his choice of vegetables, an unexpected wave of emotions crashed over the dining table. Xi Xiaobao’s small hand, poised with a piece of broccoli, trembled in the air as a flood of memories of his mommy surfaced. The realization that it was his mommy who had lovingly taught him to appreciate vegetables hit him like a wave. His mommy was the same woman who was lying in the hospital lifeless. She did not speak to him, neither did she open her eyes to look at him. No matter how much he tried, he would remember his mommy at every point of the day. He would just push back the thoughts of her at the time of the meals, so that he could eat even though his mommy had not eaten anything from so many days. He ate because he knew that his mommy would definitely be upset if she knew that he skipped his meals because of her.

But now, he could not eat any longer. He gently placed the broccoli back onto his plate and rose from his seat. The scrape of his chair against the floor echoed through the room as he silently made his way towards his room, leaving a void at the table. Madam Xi, her heart aching for her grandson, tried to stop him, but he continued on his solemn journey, his small figure disappearing down the hallway.

A heavy silence settled over the dining room, leaving Liu Ying bewildered by the sudden shift. Seeking understanding, her gaze met Madam Xi’s, who took a deep breath before revealing the painful truth.

"Bao Bao hated to eat vegetables back then. However, Qin Yan convinced him to eat them as they are good for health. Your compliment about the vegetables brought back his memories connected to Qin Yan."

Madam Xi did not say much but Liu Ying understood. Her face darkened as she failed for the first time when she met her son and all because of Qin Yan. Now she had to put in more efforts to get closer to Xi Xiaobao.

As the little bun had not eaten anything, Master Xi and Madam Xi also lost their appetites. Liu Ying, although hungry, also had to stop eating. The dinner gathering thus did not end well.

However, Madam Xi and Liu Ying did not lose hope. After that day, Liu Ying’s visits to the Xi mansion increased. She would try to talk to the little guy in different ways and try to engage him in conversations but to no avail. The little guy did not even look at her, much less respond to her. Xi Ting knew about all this but he couldn’t stop Liu Ying from meeting her own son. Thus, he did not do anything and just focused on taking care of Qin Yan.

Madam Xi grew more and more impressed with Liu Ying. The latter would try to cater to all the needs of the little guy and make him happy. After a few days, the little guy even though not happy with Liu Ying’s presence did not push her away from him like he did earlier. He started responding to her by nodding or shaking his head. However, he still did not utter a single word from his mouth.

Meanwhile, day by day, Qin Muran’s situation worsened as her struggle increased. After Xi Yaohua stopped supporting her and she was included in the infamous celebrity list, nobody dared to cast her in a film or invite her for any events.

Lu Yaran was in prison and Qin Yicheng had not cared about her for a long time. And it was impossible that the Xi Yaohua’s family would give Qin Muran money.

Qin Muran could only depend on the events in the countryside and moonlight in the low-tier, small cities to earn some money. It was impossible to return to her lavish and wonderful life in the past. However, it was also impossible for her to do anything else. For the sake of the entertainment industry, she had already quit her studies and thus she had no choice but to survive depending on the entertainment industry.

So, Qin Muran could finally look for an opportunity to give her body to a director. Thinking about it, it was insulting. Back then, when Qin Muran and Xi Yaohua were on good terms, she’d kept her body clean. She had never slept with anyone in the entertainment industry.

Because Qin Yicheng could be her source of funds. And she had to hold on to Xi Yaohua, so obviously, she could not do anything that would affect their relationship.

However, that was in the past.

Now, Xi Yaohua’s and her relationship was in ruins. No matter who she slept with now, Xi Yaohua would not even look at her. There was nobody to invest in her either. Qin Muran did not have any right or the backing to act all high and mighty. So, she had already slept with so many people just to be a small side character in a web drama series.

She finally got to know this director through the assistant director after slowly climbing her way up by sleeping with people.

This director was just a low-tier director who could not even make the ranks in the industry. Or else he would not be directing a low-quality web drama series right now.

If the series was lucky, it could bring fame to the main character in the series. However, the popularity of the main character did not just depend on the series itself; it also depended on the forces behind it, like the number of clicks, flooding the screen to brainwash the netizens, making a huge impression, and so on.
