Chapter 519: Fang Zichen’s worsening condition

In the sterile confines of Angel Hospital, Fang Zichen lay on a hospital bed, surrounded by the gentle hum of medical equipment and the focused attention of doctors and nurses. The clinical atmosphere, however, did little to mask the underlying worry that filled the room.

Fang Zichen appeared fragile; her features marked by discomfort. The medical team worked diligently, their expertise a reassuring presence in the face of uncertainty.

Meanwhile, in the hospital corridor, Han Cheng paced back and forth, his anxiety palpable. Each step reflected the drumbeat of his worry, the rhythm of a heart intertwined with that of his beloved wife. His eyes darted toward the entrance of the treatment room, seeking any sign of reassurance or news.

’She’ll be okay. She has to be okay,’ Han Cheng muttered to himself anxiously.

Chu Xing, standing nearby, mirrored Han Cheng’s unease. Her gaze alternated between the closed door of the treatment room and Han Cheng’s restless movements. The weight of responsibility pressed heavily on her shoulders as she grappled with the uncertainty of Fang Zichen’s condition. She was worried that Han Cheng might blame her for not taking care of his wife.

When both Han Cheng and Chu Xing were lost in their own thoughts, the doors to the treatment room swung open. Han Cheng, his eyes fixed on the doctors emerging from the room, awaited the news of his wife’s condition.

When the doctors finally came out, they said, "Mrs. Han is okay for now. We fixed the immediate issue, but until the root cause of her problem is not addressed, the thing that happened this time can happen again."

Han Cheng’s shoulders tensed as the words hung in the air, a delicate balance between relief and lingering worry. He knew that Fang Zichen’s weak foundation had led to all the health problems she possessed. However, until now, no matter how many tonics and supplements were taken by her, there was little to no effect on her body. Her body could not absorb the nutrients properly. And as she grew older, the ability of her body to absorb nutrients declined further.

Chu Xing was also relieved after hearing that Fang Zichen was alright. The weight on her shoulders had been lifted and she heaved a sigh of relief on hearing the doctor’s words. Although she did not know about Fang Zichen’s underlying condition, she did not care about it. She only thought of herself and she did not want to shoulder the blame of Fang Zichen’s condition. Whatever happened afterwards did not really concern her.

The doctors left after informing Han Cheng about his wife’s condition. Fang Zichen was then shifted to a deluxe ward as arranged by Han Cheng.

In the quiet confines of the deluxe ward, Han Cheng sat by Fang Zichen’s side, his eyes filled with a mix of relief and concern. He gently held her hand, providing a steady anchor as he waited for her to regain consciousness. The soft hum of the hospital room, adorned with muted light, created a serene backdrop for this intimate moment.

"You’re going to be okay, Zichen. I’m right here with you," Han Cheng whispered the comforting words into Fang Zichen’s ears softly.

He tenderly brushed his fingers through her hair, a soothing gesture that reflected a depth of care beyond words. The gentle caress, coupled with the warmth of his touch, conveyed a reassurance that transcended the confines of the hospital room.

"You’re strong, and we’ll get through this together."

Chu Xing gazed at the couple and felt that Fang Zichen was truly lucky. Her husband was so rich and influential, still he was loyal and committed to his sickly wife. He did not even get tired of catering to his wife’s illnesses constantly. Other men of his status were not even loyal to their healthy and beautiful wives, but here this man took care of his ill wife without a single frown of fatigue on his face.

As the moments passed, the serene atmosphere in the hospital room witnessed a subtle shift. The stillness was gently disrupted as Fang Zichen, slowly and groggily, began to regain consciousness. Her eyelids fluttered open, adjusting to the soft light of the room.

Han Cheng, attentive and relieved, immediately noticed the subtle change. He maintained his gentle hold on her hand, offering a reassuring squeeze.

He smiled at his wife, "Zichen, how are you feeling?"

Fang Zichen, still in the haze of recovery, blinked a few times before focusing on Han Cheng’s face. Her gaze held a mixture of confusion and recognition.

She asked softly, "Han Cheng? What happened?"

Han Cheng stroked her hair, "You had a health scare, but the doctors took care of you. You’re in the hospital. Just take it easy."

Fang Zichen, gradually becoming more alert, absorbed the information. The hospital surroundings and Han Cheng’s comforting presence provided a sense of grounding. She remembered an intense pain which shot up in her body before she lost her consciousness.

She closed her eyes in fatigue before opening them again and looking towards her husband in guilt. She couldn’t shake the feeling that her recurrent health concerns were burdening Han Cheng, who had been a steadfast pillar of support by her side.

"Cheng, I’m sorry. It seems like I keep putting you through this. I didn’t want to cause you more worry."

Han Cheng, maintaining his reassuring demeanor, gently squeezed her hand, "Zichen, you have nothing to apologize for. We’re in this together, and your health is my priority. You are everything to me. So, don’t feel guilty; just focus on getting better."

Despite his comforting words, Fang Zichen couldn’t shake the weight of her perceived imposition on her husband, "I just wish I didn’t have to trouble you like this."

Han Cheng felt bad seeing his beloved wife in guilt. He reassured her, "Your well-being is never a trouble, Zichen. We face everything as a family. Let’s focus on your recovery, and we’ll handle the rest together."

The tender exchange between Fang Zichen and Han Cheng was interrupted by a soft knock on the door of the hospital room. The entrance creaked open, revealing Qin Yan standing in the doorway. Chu Xing, who was present in the room, was visibly shocked to see Qin Yan.

Han Cheng’s expression, initially warm and concerned, transformed into a subtle frown upon seeing Qin Yan. The worry lines on his forehead deepened as he contemplated the potential impact of Qin Yan’s presence on Fang Zichen’s delicate state of health.

Fang Zichen’s heart experienced a whirlwind of emotions. The sight of Qin Yan brought a mix of happiness and disappointment, creating a complex tapestry of feelings within her. While she was genuinely glad to see Qin Yan, a twinge of disappointment lingered beneath the surface. The hope she had harbored, even if it was just a whisper, that Qin Yan might be her long-lost daughter had added a layer of complexity to their interactions.

Qin Yan, perceptive to the nuances in the room, entered with a composed demeanor. The restrained reactions of the Han family members didn’t deter her as she shifted her focus to the primary reason for her visit—Fang Zichen.

On entering the room, Qin Yan asked softly, "Aunt Fang, how are you feeling? I heard about your health, and I wanted to check on you."

Fang Zichen, appreciating Qin Yan’s genuine concern, offered a warm smile, "Thank you, Qin Yan. I’m on the path to recovery. The doctors are taking good care of me."

Han Cheng on the other hand was quite guarded against Qin Yan, "Miss Qin, how do you know about us being here?"

Qin Yan smiled, "Mr. Han, everyone in the city knows that you have purchased a 1000-year-old ginseng in the auction. Naturally, I too came to know about it. I just asked about your whereabouts here and there, when I came to know about Aunt Fang’s health."

Han Cheng sneered, ’Was it that easy to know about the whereabouts of my family?’

Qin Yan took a stool and sat beside Fang Zichen, "Aunt Fang, do you feel any discomfort?"

Fang Zichen did not know how to reply to Qin Yan. After the DNA test results came out, she had not contacted this young lady. Still, she was here once something happened to her. Fang Zichen somehow felt guilty of breaking off contact with Qin Yan. After all, it was not her fault that the DNA test results came out to be negative.

Qin Yan could sense the changing emotions of Fang Zichen. She asked, "Aunt Fang, may I check on you?"

Fang Zichen still did not utter a single word and just lifted her hand indicating for Qin Yan to check her pulse. Qin Yan smiled before she held Fang Zichen’s wrist.

Meanwhile, Han Cheng did not wish for Qin Yan to have any contact with his wife however he was afraid that Fang Zichen might think otherwise. So, as Fang Zichen herself did not resist Qin Yan’s approach, Han Cheng also did not stop them.
