Chapter 78: Those Mornings...(1)
Fiona and Steve walked side by side down the academy hallway, their footsteps soft against the stone floor.
The corridor, long and quiet, was bathed in the golden remnants of the mounted torchs.
Neither of them said much. The silence between them wasn’t awkward—it was heavy, thoughtful, as if both were searching for the right words but hadn’t found them yet.
Eventually, they were guided through the tall archways and down the steps that led to the courtyard of the academy.
The courtyard was wide and open, overlooking the distant fields and forest, now slowly dissolving into the deep blues and violets of the approaching night sky. A faint breeze stirred the edge of Fiona’s hair.
Steve paused for a moment before guiding her to a bench nestled near the far edge of the porch.
He had chosen that particular bench on purpose.
He didn’t really want to be on the courtyard at all, not in the open like this.
He was already toeing a delicate line. The rumors, the whispers... and Tonya.
He didn’t want to give anyone more reason to start piecing things together.
Especially not now, when the extent of his entanglements—the harem situation—was still under wraps.
So he picked a bench far from the main view, tucked partly in shadow. From here, they could speak, and no one would bother them.
They sat. The silence returned.
Steve leaned forward slightly, his forearms resting on his thighs, fingers loosely locked together.
Fiona sat with her back straight, hands folded in her lap, casting occasional glances his way.
There was a visible weight on his shoulders—she could feel it, even if he didn’t say anything right away.
"So...how’d your first day in magic school go?"
After a short pause, he muttered two words under his breath.
"Horribly... horrible."
His voice was low. Almost a growl, like the words had been chewed up before being spoken. He didn’t need to elaborate.
Fiona turned toward him, her tone soft, curious.
"What happened?"
Steve didn’t answer right away. His jaw clenched, and for a moment, he looked as if he might keep everything bottled up. But then he sighed, slowly.
"There’s nothing much to tell..." he said.
"It’s just... everyone keeps looking at me. Like I’m some kind of problem. Like something’s wrong with this world just because I’m here, because I’m at this academy."
Fiona watched him closely. She didn’t interrupt. She just listened, her expression warm and open.
He leaned back against the bench, eyes scanning the edge of the sky, now deepening into indigo. A single star blinked into view.
"That just feels...really fucking annoying most-everytime." Steve said after a moment, his voice more bitter now.
"You can’t really blame them, I guess. Anyone would be surprised to see a guy here. Sure, there are male mages, but it’s not... normal."
He didn’t say anything more. But in the silence that followed, Fiona’s gaze didn’t waver.
Her eyes didn’t look away from him—not even once. In fact, her thoughts had already drifted from the conversation itself. She was listening, yes, but she was also remembering.
She remembered mornings. Quiet, hazy mornings with him.
She remembered how close they used to be. How intimate their routines had grown. The feeling of stuffing his thick length into her mouth all those mornings.
Her chest rose slowly as the warmth inside her deepened—an ache she had managed to suppress for days now returning to the surface.
’Why am I thinking about this now?’ she thought, eyes trailing along the lines of his face.
’Why do I feel like... if I lean in just a little closer, he won’t stop me?’
Steve’s thoughts weren’t much clearer.
He could feel it too—the pull from her.
’She’s already craving me, so soon...This is all thanks to the magic poultry meat I had fed the family that night...Who knew it’d work so good so far?
’But, I’ve never made direct contact with her like this...I’ve gotta be cautious and be sure she certainly craves me.’
He stole a glance at her.
Her eyes dropped to his lips for a split second, then quickly flicked up to meet his.
’Yeah.’ he thought.
’She feels it too.’
Fiona’s breath hitched. She blinked and looked away, cheeks flushing with color.
"You always... do things like that when I least expect it." she whispered.
Steve tilted his head.
"Do what?"
"You know." she murmured, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
"You look at me like I’m... something more. Like I matter."
His voice was gentle now.
"Because you do."
She turned her gaze back to him.
"You’ve been here long enough to see it yourself. Compared to the other girls at the academy, I’m just... I don’t know. Like a clumsy ogre in a sea of angels."
Steve blinked, genuinely taken aback.
"Is that what you tell yourself?"
She gave a weak shrug.
"It’s just the truth."
He looked at her for a long moment. Then he smiled softly.
"Do you want to hear my truth?"
Fiona glanced at him, a little hesitant, her voice barely audible.
"Okay..."
"I think you’re—" He stopped himself, looking down for a second. Then up again, eyes steady.
"Exceptionally beautiful. And even more than that... you’re kind. Immensely kind."
She looked stunned for a moment, her lips parting slightly.
"Kind?" she repeated.
"What do you mean?"
Steve let out a small breath.
"Those mornings... when you helped me. When you didn’t have to. When you just... showed up for me."
His voice trailed off. But the look in his eyes remained—soft, sincere, and unflinching.
Upon hearing this, Fiona’s thoughts instantly went racing.
’Oh no. He remembers. He’s talking about those mornings. The ones where I... when I...’ Her face turned crimson. Her breath caught in her throat.
Her gaze dropped, then slowly returned to his.
And just like that, the moment tightened between them.
Steve leaned in—not much, just a few inches. But it was enough. Enough to feel her breath brushing against his skin. Enough to make her eyes flutter, her body still.
"So..."
He stopped, just short of her lips. He was close enough, close enough to know this wasn’t some accident. This was real.
And when he spoke, his voice was soft. Grounded. Confident.
"Let me help you today."
