Chapter 96: On The Hunt [4]

Raymond’s team was filled with powerful characters with unique talents.

His own fire was like the flames of hell. Natalia’s darkness was a vast expanse. Jason was like a son of Zeus, and Ulver could control people’s bodies and minds with extreme precision.

Nothing had to be said about Alice, and it could be assumed that Mirei’s power was extraordinary as well. Jax, while seemingly much more ordinary than the others, was clearly hiding a well of power within him. Otherwise, it would have been impossible for him to properly accompany the rest of the team on missions.

But of them all, Gio’s personal favorite ability was Amaya’s. It was simply so unique and spectacular that he had to admire it.

Transformation abilities were common. Summoning abilities were exceedingly rare but still existed. This kind of astral manifestation ability, however, had to be unique or close to it.

Gio had only seen an ability like hers once or twice in his lifetime, and he had laid eyes on millions of Sequencers at the very least.

The little bits of it he’d seen already were impressive, but seeing it up close was different.

It was almost as if Amaya became a Crimson Ash Bear. Her form changed. She became taller and grew thick fur on her arms and legs. Her skin became a shade of pure black just like what existed under the bear’s fur. It was guaranteed that she’d taken the toughness of that skin along with its color.

Her eyes blazed a deeper shade of orange as she pushed towards it.

Her arms went forth. The bear behind her copied her movements. Before the Crimson Ash Bear could understand what was happening, Amaya’s hands clapped together, producing an arc of fire that cut through the air.

GRRRR–!

The bear growled questioningly, not understanding what it was seeing. It sensed the aura of kin. This attack was also definitely the product of its kin. However, wasn’t this a human?

The confusion in its small mind crippled it for just a second. Unfortunately, even a single second was too long when a crescent of blade-like flames was shooting towards it.

Bang!

A loud sound rang out with the impact. A large gash was formed in the bear’s stomach, but it didn’t pierce any deeper than skin.

Being hit also reminded the bear that it was facing intruders. It roared violently and stood up on two legs, beating its chest like an ape. It was ten feet tall with dark red, almost auburn fur. It had a much meaner appearance than an ordinary bear, but there weren’t many noticeable external differences. Still, that sight was certainly intimidating.

Every impact could be heard as pauses in its roaring voice. And with those pauses came rings of fire that rocketed at Amaya. Gio had already retreated behind the boulder to keep himself safe. Even though Amaya said she was going to handle this one alone, he still prepared his rifle and waited for the right chance to take the shot.

He was watching the battle through its scope. He followed Amaya’s movements as she jumped in the air, using the bear’s leg strength to her advantage. She didn’t carry its weight, so she could use it much better.

Her body flew high above the flame rings that were fated to strike some trees in the distance. At the same time, the manifestation behind her back changed. A pair of wings sprouted from her back along with a spray of blood. She flapped them only once, but that single movement caused the winds to whip.

The feathers on her wings turned into blades and mobilized, leaving her back and shooting into the ground below. They seemed to be fired randomly, but that wasn’t the case at all.

Each and every feather that could reach the gash she’d created prior did reach it. They pierced into the open skin like blades, cutting deeper into the bear’s flesh.

Amaya naturally could no longer fly without feathers on her wings. She dropped to the ground as the wings fell away from her, changing her manifestation yet again.

Boom!

She landed on the Crimson Ash Bear’s back as an ape. The weight of her impact alone crushed it to the ground, breaking several bones in its body. The blades in its stomach were forced deeper inside as it was forced into the ground.

The bear roared out in pain, but Amaya didn’t care. She jumped off its back and used the strength of her manifestation to forcefully flip it on its back.

Bang!

Her fist landed directly in its throat. Its eyes bulged as it felt its trachea collapsing.

Only, that was the least of its worries. In the next moment, she was on top of it. The manifestation behind her transformed into a Crimson Ash Bear once more.

She stabbed her hands into the gash on the bear’s stomach, and from there, it was a matter of listening rather than seeing.

Boom!

Huuuuuuuu–!

A dull explosion and a sound of pain. It was the best sound the bear could make with its windpipe destroyed.

A ring of fire had been detonated within the bear’s body.

Boom!

HUUU–!

Boom!

It could not finish the sound coming out of its mouth. One after another, Amaya let loose the bear’s own flames until its insides had been thoroughly cooked.

The bear’s squeals turned into whimpers. It clawed at the air trying to do anything, but it was too late to fight back from the moment Amaya reached into its body.

It died slowly and gruesomely, and when it finally stopped moving, Gio came out of his hiding spot.

"Unfortunate," he said, clicking his tongue.

"You wanted to participate that bad?" Amaya responded as she pulled her hands out of the bear and used the same trick as before to clean them off.

"Well, I thought about fighting for a little longer to give you a chance, but I figured I was already being too theatrical."

She wasn’t wrong. There was no way she needed to transform that many times just to kill that bear. She ended it so fast that it was impossible.

She chose to fight while transforming over and over again simply to showcase her power and show Gio how interesting Sequences and combat could be.

"So? How was it?"

"Top tier. Only thing that’ll ruin it is if you lied about the taste."

Amaya’s grin widened.

"Well that’s perfect, then."

She took out a large blade and stuck it into the bear’s body.

"Let’s get to eating, then. After that..."

She couldn’t help but chuckle at how obviously Gio wanted to fight. His battle spirit was practically bursting at the seams.

Once they were on a full stomach and rested, they could set up their tents and get to work. Amaya wasn’t going to force Gio to exist among all these beasts without being able to touch them.

And knowing exactly that, Gio had a mobile home complete with a kitchen, bathroom, bed, and air conditioning unit prepared within the hour.

If there was one thing he could pride himself on, it was his ability to get things done when he wanted something.
