Chapter 92: Guided Training [8]

The zephyr returned the day after their final duel. It was expected. They scheduled their final duel the day before on purpose.

It landed in the morning before either of them was properly awake, but Raymond intentionally had the pilots disable stealth so the roaring of its engines would wake them up.

Naturally, they scrambled out of bed and rushed to put their clothes on, heading outside to see what was causing the commotion.

They were greeted by Raymond and Natalia, waiting in their signature position at the top of the ramp up to the cargo bay.

"Missed us?" Raymond asked with a grin.

"Hell no!" Jax replied with the same expression.

"I was actually crying last night because my vacation is ending. You should ask Gio. He was complaining because he couldn’t sleep."

It was a completely fabricated story. They couldn’t even hear each other through the walls of their tents which were more like mobile homes.

Still, Gio didn’t say anything and shrugged.

Raymond rolled his eyes, motioning for the two of them to get on the ship.

"Gio, you’re going to be dropped off for training with Amaya left, but we’re going to move somewhere more convenient. We’re going deeper into the Wilds now, so you’ll have to bear with waiting a couple of days before continuing."

His eyes scanned Gio’s body up and down.

To say there were no noticeable differences...

No, to the trained eye, there were plenty. His form was more robust, albeit just barely. He wasn’t a bodybuilder, but he certainly had more muscle than any other fourteen-year-old.

His gaze was much sharper as well. It was obvious that he’d become more perceptive.

’Well, Jax isn’t the type to help him with Sequences.’

Raymond knew his team well. He could imagine what the two of them had been doing for the past month.

"Anyway, come with me, Jax. I’ll fill you in on what you missed. Gio, if you head to the dorm halls, Amaya should be waiting for you somewhere. Talk to her a bit before you leave."

A small smile crept up his face as he turned around to leave with Jax and Natalia.

"I’m sure you’ll be excited to hear what she has planned."

The group of them walked away, leaving Gio alone to watch the cargo bay ramp fold back into the butt of the plane.

In the distance, he could vaguely make out Jax’s words.

"By the way, Captain... he’s a lot better than I thought. I’m thinking we might be able to give in a little and let him get some experience if he keeps growing like this..."

’Really? Right when we get back?’

Gio almost wanted to stop him and tell him how planned it seemed if he brought it up early, but he felt it was best to leave the matter alone.

’He said Amaya was waiting in the dorm halls?’

All of the dorms were placed together in two perpendicularly interconnected halls. There wasn’t a distinction between men’s rooms and women’s rooms, as each dorm had more than enough protection to ensure that those inside wouldn’t have their privacy breached.

There was a shared kitchen, but bathrooms and the likes were individual, so there weren’t any problems with the layout.

Gio’s own room was near the end of the hall, giving him easy access to the more important areas of the ship. He’d never really explored further into the hallway until today.

Not that there was anything to see.

Gio looked around for Amaya for a few minutes before finding her in the dining area attached to the shared kitchen. She was sitting alone, munching on a pile of meat bigger than her own head.

Gio smiled wryly as he walked towards her.

’Yeah, if you’re summoning the power of beasts, I guess you’ll need to eat at least this much to regain your energy.’

He shook his head a little. Some Sequences needed to be coped with in very interesting ways. Hers was one of them, evidently.

Amaya must’ve sensed his approach, as she turned away from the giant turkey leg in her hand and faced him before he even arrived.

"Oh! You’re back? I thought it would be a little."

She put the turkey leg back on her plate and wiped her mouth. Honestly, no matter how crassly she acted, it couldn’t ruin her beauty.

She had dark brown hair that perfectly melted into her chocolate-colored skin. Her eyes were a deep shade of an almost orange color that looked like the horizon at dusk, and her skin was so pristine that it looked fake.

Even as someone who didn’t particularly have a desire for beauty, Gio had to appreciate it in the moment he had before Amaya finished cleaning her face and looked at him again.

"Kid, how was your time with Jax? I don’t even need to ask about Ulver. I’m sure you suffered."

She said it like she pitied him but the grin on her face said otherwise. Gio only shrugged and responded honestly.

"Whether I suffered or not, I grew. As long as I’m growing, I don’t care what I have to go through."

Amaya raised an eyebrow with an impressed look on her face.

Nodding, she called the kitchen staff over and told them to save the rest of the plate for later. A slight burst of aura left her body as she manifested the power of an insignificant beast, using its water abilities to clean her hands.

"That is..."

"Efficient, right?"

Amaya grinned again.

"I heard about what you told Raymond," she said.

"You want to get out in the field, right? You want to gain some practical experience?"

Gio nodded.

"That’s good. You see, I’m not a great teacher."

He felt like he’d heard these words before.

"But I heard you’re a good learner."

He’d definitely heard these words before.

"So we’re just going to test it out."

That was where her words diverged completely from what Jax said.

As Gio looked at her with his eyes wide and his mouth agape, she said what he was hoping she would say.

"You wanna go hunting?"

It took everything inside Gio’s body and mind to turn the ecstatic "Yes!" in his heart into a very calm and collected reply.

"I can’t wait."

An unexpected boon. It wasn’t the same as being in the field against djinns, but that wasn’t a concern anymore.

If Amaya was going to take him to fight beasts...

No, if they were going deep into the Wilds and she still planned for him to fight...

His heart raced just thinking about the enemies they’d find.

Gio wasn’t a bloodthirsty person. He started as someone who hated seeing blood at all, so no matter how much he changed, his core wouldn’t suddenly come to crave the sight of blood.

That only changed when the opponents were beasts and monsters.

When he stood in front of the races that led to humanity’s end, the same creatures that ruined his entire world in the past...

The so-called "Beast of the Tower," was such an entity.

A beast more addicted to the blood of beasts than any other.

And as his youngest self stood in the zephyr, waiting impatiently for the moment they landed, a hint of that anticipation appeared in his heart.

He was itching to taste the flesh of his prey.
