Chapter 257: Bloodless Crypt [1]

Chapter 257: Bloodless Crypt [1]

The light wasn’t nearly as bright from within. It only looked like that on the outside because so many different auras were combining.

From up close, one could specifically see the energy being released by each individual battle taking place. There were six different "battlefields" with varying numbers of fighters on them.

Gio rushed past all of them. His target was currently not a part of any of those battlefields. She was rushing between them with two blades equipped in her hands. He didn’t know if she was trying to instigate or if she was aiming for a specific target, but her original goal would be rendered meaningless in the next second.

Bang!

She didn’t know what was happening. Nobody around her knew what was happening. All of a sudden, a blue comet shot at her, and she disappeared. Her momentum had been completely canceled out as she became nothing more than a passenger on that comet’s trajectory.

Gio slammed his fist into her stomach and forced her to move with him. The virtual sun at his back gave him unstoppable momentum. He didn’t stop or slow down in the slightest even when they found their path blocked by–

Bang!

Smoke and dust went flying everywhere. Blood flew out of the girl’s mouth as her eyes widened in shock and pain. She looked directly into Gio’s cold, murderous gaze as if trying to figure out what was happening.

However, she didn’t remain shocked for long.

Just like Gio, one of the first things she learned was to never avert her eyes and never drop her weapons. She didn’t know who was attacking, but she knew he wanted her life.

Shing!

Two swords went flying across Gio’s chest. They were covered in a dark silver aura that shimmered like starlight.

Gio’s eyes narrowed as he snaked around the blades and twisted his body to throw an uppercut at the bottom of her chin.

It struck true, and immediately, a huge burst of energy left his fist and encompassed her head.

Voom!

The smell of burning flesh filled Gio’s nose, but he didn’t push further. He pulled back and raised a defense around his body just in time to see a silver tempest consume the world around the girl.

Whoosh!

The winds that looked like they were made of moonlight crashed into Gio’s barrier and shattered it, forcing him to use his energy to dash to the side.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Silver comets rained down from the air above, hitting the ground around Gio and melting into the rock. The silver energy manifested similarly to both starlight and liquid metal, giving it an incredibly interesting property.

’It can be used as a solid, and it can be used as a liquid. When it’s solid, it’s as cold as ice. When it’s liquid, it’s hotter than lava.’

Gio knew exactly how it worked, so he knew exactly how to fight against it.

"Who are you?!" The girl asked angrily as she charged at him with both swords already in motion.

"You shouldn’t ask questions you aren’t willing to answer."

Boom!

Before she could approach, Gio summoned a missile and shot it at the girl. It exploded in the air and forced her into the air.

Gio followed on the ground.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Spire after spire rose, doing their best to put a hole in the girl’s stomach. As they approached from below, a rain of flaming arrows followed Gio’s hand movements and cascaded down from the ceiling.

The girl gritted her teeth and crossed her swords in front of her face. Silver energy came out of their blades and formed a circular shield that protected her from the arrows. She created several steps across the sky, using them to change her trajectory any time a spire came near her.

Gio wasn’t giving her a single opportunity to attack, but she wouldn’t let him land a hit that easily.

She had some minor burns on her chin and neck, but they weren’t enough to concern her. In fact, she was more concerned about the identity of her enemy.

Her body spun as she narrowly avoided another spire. Silver waves cut through the space around her, disrupting the volley of arrows from above while simultaneously shooting towards Gio.

While he was busy moving away, she landed on the ground and regained some momentum.

’Close range is not the answer.’

He wouldn’t allow her to approach him, so it was pointless to try. She had more than just swordsmanship, anyway.

"Young Miss!"

Her eyes shot to the side. She growled a little when she saw her underlings looking at her.

They called to her like they were her servants, but the indifference in their eyes said otherwise. They were here for a purpose. She was being ordered to stop playing around and return.

’It isn’t me.’

Bang!

She ducked under a crescent of virtual energy and swung a sword, creating several saws that spun wildly at Gio.

She understood that she was the one who usually picked fights with others, but it wasn’t her this time.

She wasn’t playing around.

This person was aiming for her life.

Gio wasn’t going to let her go.

’I already knew she was good. I knew it wouldn’t be easy.’

But he could do it. With the suppression and his skills, he could absolutely do it.

He rushed at her and jumped into the air.

[Siege Armament]

Gio couldn’t decide which version was most destructive.

[Beam]

Vooooooom!

A collection of beam weapons fired at once. The blue halo they created shined a different light from the one gathered in the center of the room, drawing the attention of many eyes.

Booooooooooom!

A long impact resounded as virtual plumes of smoke scattered into the air.

Gio gritted his teeth even as he looked into the chaos. His eyes soon snapped to the wall in the distance.

The girl was there. She had been moved a distance away from where they were fighting, and she was currently being shielded by a man wearing a strangely shaped helmet that covered everything but his eyes, which were shielded by a visor.

Gio took a step forward with his fangs bared. They were all equal while the Scenario Quest was happening. He could take both of them at once.

Ba–!

The burst under his foot was snuffed out before it could fully manifest. A pair of arms grabbed him from each side while someone else approached from the back and dragged him away. He put his arm on the arm that was holding his neck, but he couldn’t use force to break out.

"Calm the fuck down."

When he turned his head to see Shiro’s face and hear those words, he had no choice but to accept that he was being pulled away. By the time he glanced back over at where the girl was, she had already been pulled away.

’VNGRD doesn’t respond to provocation unless it’s necessary. They pulled her away, so my chance this time is gone...but that’s only until I can find her again and separate her from her group.’

Gio wasn’t going to give up. Merely, to get her away from her group, he first needed to get away from his own.

’I brought them in here. I’m responsible for them, but I can’t get them involved in a fight with VNGRD.’

He couldn’t put them on that organization’s radar.

Though he refused to leave his party carelessly, this also wasn’t a chance he could miss.

Somehow, he would figure out a way.
