Transcendent Gene
Chapter 239: Growth [3]

Chapter 239: Growth [3]

He didn’t need to tell Farrah what to do with the Gene Fluid he gave her. She was more knowledgeable than him in that regard, so there was no reason for him to butt in where he wasn’t needed.

After talking with her for a bit longer, he left for the city.

’There’s still the rest of today left before I have to get back to school. There’s no need to leave Celestelle.’

The city had its own benefits that the school didn’t have. For instance, the school had training rooms for students, but they were meant for students so they were constantly monitored.

The training rooms in the city had to be rented for money, but they came with the benefit of being built for proper Sequencers, meaning they were stronger and had the privacy a Sequencer would expect from such an establishment.

There were several such places across the city. Gio chose the one closest to the lab and sighed as he handed over a thousand credits to book a room for six hours.

He was led to a door and handed a keycard to open it. Once he was inside, he pressed a button on the wall to seal his space and sat down in the center of the room.

’Let’s get started.’

He pulled the Genesis Crystals out of his Storage Hole and carefully placed them on the ground. When he was done, he carefully moved a case of Gene Fluid outside and did the same thing.

’I have to transfer everything to new vials, but I already had to purify them, so it isn’t like I have to do extra work.’

Doing it all at once would be a waste of the time he spent money to earn. He only took ten vials, leaving the rest to take care of at a later time.

Once they had been purified and transferred to new containers, Gio placed them next to his Genesis Crystals and sat down.

’This should be good.’

"Gene Fluid" was, at its core, humanity’s attempt to improve the human genome itself.

The research wasn’t abandoned because it was unsuccessful.

Firstly, a lot of the documentation related to it was destroyed by the Forthcoming.

When the world was terraformed, every device that could access the "cloud" that stored the world’s information was either destroyed or rendered useless. Physical documents faced an even worse fate.

Secondly, the results were hard to find. It could be seen from both Director Khan’s and Farrah’s reactions to his theft. Gene Fluid was very hard to find. Other vestiges of the research were even harder to find.

For Director Khan, the loss of that much Gene Fluid was disastrous. It was already terrible to use it for such purposes, but to not even achieve his goal...

Well, Gio wouldn’t be surprised if a bounty appeared on his head at some point.

And thirdly, humans moved on. The Forthcoming gave them a new and arguably easier method. Instead of improving the human genome, they focused on altering the human genome through the bloodlines of other races.

’In the end, the result is humans getting stronger.’

Going back to Gene Alteration Technology wasn’t really beneficial anymore. The changes brought about by Bloodlines and Gene Sequences made it impossible to make a streamlined gene alteration fluid. It would have to be tailored to each individual to ensure there wouldn’t be complications.

’So, if a Sequencer wants to try altering their human genes, they have to gamble on their control.’

Complications meant unfinished or rogue alterations to the very core of one’s genes and DNA. The range of consequences one could be left to deal with didn’t need to be mentioned.

’Plus, I have a way around it,’ Gio thought with a smile.

He always knew of the risks that came with taking Gene Fluid, but he also knew what Gene Alteration Technology could do.

’The human genome isn’t useless. We’re born as blank canvases that can be turned into anything. Enhancing the human genome only meant becoming stronger and gaining longevity for the people of the past, but for us...’

Gio grabbed a Genesis Crystal. Within it was a kind of energy that was fully malleable. In his other hand, he took a vial of Gene Fluid.

He was mentally ready. His body didn’t need to be prepared more than it already was.

At the same time, he crushed the Genesis Crystal and dumped the vial of Gene Fluid into his mouth.

A cold and knife-like energy spread through his throat while a much warmer and more welcoming energy entered the pores of his arm.

He gritted his teeth as the veins on his neck bulged. The color of his skin subtly turned blue. A chill spread through his body in an instant, but he was quick to combat it.

The warm energy in his arm soon gathered under the control of his will and moved through his body. It rushed up his throat and surrounded the cold energy of the Gene Fluid, slowly guiding it outside the walls of his throat and down his sternum.

The Gene Fluid was directed to his Gene Housing, where he pushed it almost entirely into the space around [Memory Book].

’The Original Gene is different from a Gene Sequence because it’s a manifestation of the core genome. [Memory Book] represents me in the same way my own DNA does.’

The Original Gene was located on a "podium." If the Original Gene was the spiritual representation of a person’s core, the "podium" held its physical counterpart.

Gio pushed the Gene Fluid until it was all firmly set inside the podium. Once it was secured in place, he used a portion of the energy from the Genesis Crystal to hold it down and force it to merge slowly and methodically.

’Good.’

With that, he could take his attention off the Gene Fluid for a moment. He sent the remaining Genesis Essence through his body, melding it into his Sequences and Bloodline.

He wasn’t directly controlling it to affect any specific facet of his bloodline, but he didn’t need to.

As if it was liquid filling up containers, it brought every container to an equal level before it started to overflow.

Gio’s body changed outside of his direct control.

The more Genesis Essence he merged into his blood, the more the change left his scope of control. At a certain point, he was able to shift all of his attention back to his Gene Housing.

’This level of change is at a much smaller level than what I’m used to.’

He hadn’t reached a point where he could perceive his body down to its smallest pieces. It was impossible for him to actually see the changes that would be made once he started moving the fluid within his genes.

’But I’ve seen it before.’

Within the [Memory Book], there was a perfect representation of his body down to the organelles in his cells. He trusted that memory as much as he trusted his own control.

It was a risk from an objective standpoint, but to him, it was practically guaranteed.

Aether surrounded the Gene Fluid, becoming one with the Genesis Essence already there. The two forces acted in tandem and started performing the most microscopic surgery humans could ever imagine.

Sweat dripped from his forehead as his focus intensified. Time passed incredibly slowly in his mind, though it hadn’t slowed down at all in reality.

He carefully maneuvered, completely separating himself from the outside world until he was assured of his success, and finally...
