Chapter 232: Asura [6]
Chapter 232: Asura [6]
"Pesky Rat!"
Boom!
"Did you think you could escape me?!"
Farrah gave Gio a sense of direction. Though he couldn’t lose Khan so easily, he was able to make a decent amount of distance between himself and his pursuer.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
The sounds around him were clear in his ears, but Gio didn’t pay attention to them if they weren’t nearby. The world would be filled with explosions until he escaped.
’He’s gaining again.’
The distance Gio made was worth almost nothing. The most he could do was try to inhibit Khan’s path.
Bang!
He summoned his energy, creating a bomb that dropped behind him and exploded, throwing a burst of light and energy into the forest and shaking the trees.
At the same time, more energy gathered on his back and shot him into the air.
He was finally able to see his target in the distance, and from this vantage point...
[Rain]
He hadn’t named it yet because it was based on something he saw Shiro do not too long ago, but it would have to do. His energy left his hands and entered the air, forming a rain of flaming virtual arrows and swords that cut into the brush around Khan, forcing him to stop in his tracks and glare up at his enemy.
"Weak! You’re this weak and you decided to play with my money?!"
Khan roared in fury as Gio retreated closer to his goal. He shot into the air, throwing his hand out and filling the sky with invisible barriers Gio had to avoid.
It was more than enough to slow him down.
Boom!
Crimson comets came down from the sky and slammed into Gio’s back, destroying his energy and throwing him to the ground.
However, even as his skin was exposed and flayed, he didn’t stop moving.
Boom!
It was the sound of Khan coming out of the sky and landing right behind him. Without turning back, Gio stepped into the ground and used Hekat’s power to send dirt and rock erupting into the air.
Xiu!
A crimson arrow came through the debris, just barely missing his head. It was obvious that blocking Khan’s vision was vital to survival.
’It’s been a minute.’
A single minute had passed, but Gio’s body was now covered in so many wounds that he couldn’t count them. He knew that lasting four more wouldn’t be possible, which pushed him even harder to reach the tree.
Whoooooosh!
He charged through the forest faster than even its fastest inhabitants in this area. He knew he was getting close.
"I don’t know where you’re running..."
Yet, Khan’s voice never faded away. Gio turned around with weary eyes to look at the man who seemed willing to chase him to the ends of the earth.
"...but you can’t run forever!"
And then suddenly, there were two.
’Fuck.’
Gio now knew why Director Khan felt weaker.
’It’s a clone.’
His main body was still in the clearing. He used his abilities to separate pieces of himself and send them after Gio. They were much weaker than Khan, but the past minute showed that there was no reason to feel comforted by that fact.
’Especially if they can multiply like that.’
The second clone didn’t come from the main body. It was formed by a clone body. Clone abilities were already rare, but one without the usual limitations...
Bang! Bang! Bang!
’Their power isn’t being split, either.’
The original clone got weaker, but only by around a quarter if Gio had to guess. The two of them were attacking together, putting so much energy into the world that Gio thought the sky itself turned red.
He was having trouble surviving at all. He was barely avoiding real damage by taking necessary hits on the least vital parts of his body, but if things kept on like this, he would bleed out and die of exhaustion before they ever caught him.
He wouldn’t be able to last another whole minute against two of them.
’I can’t let him multiply again.’
Gio’s eyes stayed on the forest ahead with a piece of his attention on Farrah’s directions.
He swerved between trees, using the entire environment as a distraction to keep himself out of harm’s way.
His energy was constantly flying out in retaliation, but it never hit one of Khan’s clones.
Rather, it created a new kind of light that meshed with the red aura of Khan’s attacks and muddied the environment even more.
Gio didn’t care if he wasn’t doing damage. He also didn’t care if his attacks did nothing to stop the ones Khan was sending.
The only thing that mattered was that he wasn’t getting hit. His bleeding body wasn’t being assaulted even more.
’There it is.’
BOOOOOOM!
Gio slid and catapulted off the ground, avoiding a red star that burrowed a huge crater into the forest.
The tree he had been aiming for was right in front of him.
He blasted himself forward, using his senses to find the clones’ positions.
Bang!
"Kagh!"
He spat out a mouthful of blood as energy stabbed into his back. His body shivered inadvertently, disrupting the flow of energy.
Even as he plummeted to the ground, Gio willed his energy in the direction of the tree.
He barreled towards its trunk, but he wasn’t able to gather himself again.
BOOOOM!
A huge sound came from the distance, and in the next second, one of the two clones was directly in front of him.
Its hands went around his throat again, forcing him forward until his back crashed against the tree trunk.
"AAAARGH!"
The spray of blood that left Gio’s body was terrifying to look at. His entire backside was burning uncontrollably, bringing out a scream that he couldn’t keep inside no matter how hard he tried.
"Gio!"
Farrah’s concerned call came from his ear, but it couldn’t be heard over the high-pitched ringing in his head.
"I told you. You can’t escape."
The other clone was approaching. In a few seconds, it was guaranteed to rejoin its other half and regain its full power.
So, he had to fight through the pain.
He kept his eyes locked to his enemy’s and used what he learned in the tower.
Voom!
His aura flared a deep blue filled with traces of pure bloody hostility.
Everything left his mind but the face of the enemy in front of him. The world itself became insignificant.
In a world where nothing existed but him and his enemy, Gio became no better than a beast.
As Khan opened his mouth to talk, Gio reached up and shoved his hand inside. He gripped down on Khan’s bottom row of teeth and pried his jaw open, refusing to let go even when those same teeth clamped down on his knuckles.
VOOM!
Virtual energy flared to life. He pulled down with all of the strength possibly available in his body. Aether made his muscles bulge to an incredible level, and he tore his arm as far downward as he could.
ROOOOAAAAAR!
It did not come from a monster or beast, but from Gio’s own back. A huge outpouring of energy flew into the sky.
"KEUAAAAAAGH!"
With a roar so guttural that it didn’t seem to come from a human mouth, he tore himself away from the grip on his neck. His body went slamming towards the ground with his back still scraping against the tree trunk.
His blood turned the trunk red and filled the air with mist, and when he slammed into the ground, he was sure he broke at least one ankle before he collapsed.
But none of that mattered.
He saw it in front of him. There was a hole at the bottom of the trunk, and in that hole...
Desperately, still clutching what was in his hand, Gio crawled inside and threw himself forward.
BOOOOOOOOOOM!
The tree exploded. The surrounding brush exploded. Everything erupted into flames of crimson energy the moment the second clone appeared.
The only thing left in place of that explosion was a portal about eight feet high and colored in swirling whites, blues, and blacks.
The "thief" had disappeared into lands beyond.
