Chapter 175: Moving Forth [5]

Bang!

No more than two seconds passed before Gio moved.

He slammed his foot into the ground and brought his energy into the world, turning it into a pair of boots that shot virtual flames and boosted him forward.

A spear manifested in his hands as he got closer to Kyrian, however, the old general didn’t feel worried in the slightest.

He only tapped his foot on the ground.

Voom!

A wave of power spread from him. The ground around him was crushed two inches lower by the sheer pressure he released. A hazy barrier of purple-black energy spread within a several-meter radius of his body.

Gio’s eyes narrowed as he hastily halted his steps before reaching the edge of the space.

He expected this to happen, but he always tried to move fast enough to land the first hit anyway.

"My father’s main Sequence is [Gravity Control].’

The domain he created this time was small. It wasn’t even a fraction of his true power, but it was still enough to halt Gio in his tracks.

He’d already felt the force of that field. He was barely able to move when he was inside. His current momentum was carrying him towards the edge of the barrier fast, but he had already learned how to prepare for this.

He couldn’t disperse the momentum, but he could alter its direction.

Bang!

Aether went into his legs to protect them and force shot into the ground, rapidly forcing Gio’s deceleration before he shot into the air.

The spear in his hands lengthened into a javelin that he threw in the next second. It whizzed through the air and pierced the barrier, rushing towards Kyrian.

"Now that you’ve learned to maneuver in the air a little, a move like that is more viable, but don’t get too reliant on a height advantage."

It was a lesson he’d learned before, but Kyrian still said those words as he raised his arm.

’It’s a warning.’

No, it was a feint disguised as a warning.

Gio’s boots dematerialized and reappeared as a jetpack. The energy propelling him disappeared, leaving him to drop to the ground.

Several massive shards of rock passed over his head. One of Kyrian’s supportive Sequences was telekinesis. With weight removed as a factor, he could control items of immense size with ease.

Gio knew those rocks would be coming. This part of the battle was essentially the same as it had been last time.

Except, last time, the warning was real.

Gio suddenly activated his jetpack while he was still high in the air. He used it to rapidly throw himself to the side before dematerializing it. In the same instance, a rock spire rushed out of the ground and almost impaled him.

The jagged edge of the spire ripped open his arm, throwing blood into the sky. Gio had no choice but to accept the pain with gritted teeth.

He had to counterattack.

A pair of pistols appeared in his hands, but the bullets they shot were of a far higher caliber. As Gio fell back to the ground, he shot wildly into the gravity barrier around Kyrian.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Explosions of blue light filled the air, blocking Kyrian’s field of view.

’My advantage in this battle is his refusal to move.’

Kyrian said he was training Gio for real combat, but that wasn’t necessarily the entire truth. It was more accurate to say he was teaching Gio how to dodge. He stayed still like a fortress and used huge attacks to cause equally huge damage.

On the battlefield, they used to call him the Moving Fortress. As if he were invulnerable, he would walk into battle without fear and destroy enemies like flattening pillows. He moved slowly, but he caused irreversible damage with every step.

Against his own son, however, the Moving Fortress stopped moving. He intentionally created more openings for Gio to exploit.

He finally touched the ground again, rolling back to his feet before sending a wave of virtual flames directly forward.

Rather than an uncontrolled blaze, it was a specifically created flame that snaked towards Kyrian and painted the gravity barrier blue.

’He won’t take damage from it.’

But it was enough to keep him occupied for a second.

Gio summoned a sword and zipped across the flat ground like a comet. He jumped when he reached the gravity barrier, but he made no attempt to fly.

When he was squarely over it, he allowed himself to fall.

And when his feet touched the purple-black energy, an immense force dragged him to the ground.

He accelerated rapidly over a distance of only a few feet and pulled his blade down with all the power in his arms.

The gravity boosted his momentum and gave his attack even more power. Kyrian didn’t even turn to face him before the blade was only inches above his head.

"Good try."

A hazy aura covered Kyrian’s body. As if he weighed less than a feather, he tapped his foot against the ground and went flying back.

Boom!

Gio slammed into nothing more than dirt and rock. The weight of the gravity barrier pressed down on him, but Kyrian was no longer inside with him.

"Did you forget that I’m not affected by it?" He asked as he approached from the distance.

He wasn’t. Kyrian felt every bit of the gravity his barrier put down, but he’d trained himself to resist it and control two different forces of gravity at once. By lightening his body to counter the effect, he was essentially rendered immune.

It was only possible because of the immense amount of energy he once held in his body.

"Khhh...!"

Gio struggled to lift himself off the ground and right his body.

"I’m disappointed, Gio. You were too hasty," Kyrian said.

He re-entered the gravity barrier, walking up to Gio calmly and patting him on the back.

He knew his son wouldn’t be able to move enough to attack him.

"This has to be our final battle, but it’s the first time you’ve received a failing grade in many months. Did you become arrogant?"

He moved around to see Gio’s face.

His eyes widened.

Those were not gritted teeth.

That was a grin.

"Got you."

Two words, and then light.

The power of Aether and [Virtual Manifestation] combined and bursted from Gio’s body in all directions. They filled the air with volatile energy that roared and crashed against itself, filling the inside of the gravity barrier with chaos.

Stamina and energy rapidly drained from Gio’s body, but it wasn’t a continuous drain. After a moment, the energy drain stopped, but the explosions continued.

The blue light became brighter, ravaging Gio’s body with pain and no wounds.

He could no longer see Kyrian next to him, but he was confident. He remembered those last few milliseconds before the light as clear as day.

His father was not able to escape before the explosion. Kyrian summoned his energy with wide eyes, yet he could not escape.

[Aura Explosion]; the first technique that Gio invented with [Virtual Manifestation].

He could confidently say that Kyrian never expected it to be used against him like this.
