Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Disdain for Him
The woman hurriedly stood up, her delicately made-up face blushing with shyness. She slightly lowered her eyelashes coyly and secretly glanced at Mason Nightshade’s cold and gentle face. The upward curve of her lips betrayed her secret joy.
The other women cast a jealous glare at her.
"Please have a seat."
This woman was also quite calculating. Seeing Mason standing there, she quickly vacated her spot and moved to his side, reaching out her hand to try and affectionately pull him to sit down.
Opportunities to get close to Mason were rare, so how could she let it slip!
Mason lowered his gaze, his cold look landing on the woman’s hand. Her nails were sharply trimmed and painted in a gaudy bright red; her fingers resembled skinny chicken claws. Her face was heavily made-up despite it being nighttime, and a strong and unpleasant perfume scent assaulted his senses.
Mason frowned, his eyes suddenly sharp, sending a warning look at the woman.
Her hand froze in the air, not daring to move a muscle, and a chilling sense rose from her back.
Though Mason was never rumored to harm women, no one said he wouldn’t.
The hand that was stuck in mid-air began to tremble slightly. The woman’s heart thumped like a drum, and she instinctively took half a step back.
Mason exuded a strong "scent of blood." Even though he hadn’t fought on the battlefield for years, the cold, fierce atmosphere ingrained in his bones could make someone tremble with just a look or a gesture.
The atmosphere grew chilly and oddly silent.
The only sound was Mason’s footsteps.
Aurelia Shaw seemed entirely unaffected by Mason’s arrival. After she finished nibbling on her chicken wings, she lazily lifted her head to look at Mason.
Her eyebrows raised, her peach blossom eyes slightly narrowed, arrogant and flamboyant with a hint of provocation.
Seeing the girl’s clean and delicate face under the dim light, Mason suddenly smiled.
He, too, raised his eyebrows, meeting her sharp gaze.
Though she had changed, it seemed she had become more interesting.
Those around them seemed to witness sparks flying between their gazes—one flamboyant, the other inscrutable. Neither would back down, making bystanders palpably anxious, wanting to flee the scene.
Titan Jennings noticed the tension and hurried over with a flattering smile, saying, "Mr. Night, let’s sit over there. It’s noisy over here, and the light’s too dark; the ambiance is much better over there."
"Director Jennings, you’re still around?" Aurelia gave Titan a meaningful glance, her lips curling up.
Titan felt his heart skip a beat from that look, inexplicably uneasy. Would this little vixen latch onto this? Offending her, not knowing when she might whisper something in Mason’s ear—not good; this woman can’t be allowed to stay!
A vicious glint flashed in Titan’s eyes, but he hid it well, smilingly saying to Aurelia, "You’re joking. Where else would I be if not here, haha."
Aurelia smirked but said nothing further, turning back to her roasted duck necks.
"Bring over a pair of chopsticks."
A soft voice echoed.
Mason seemed not to have heard Titan’s invitation, sitting down beside Aurelia. He glanced at the table scattered with bones she had discarded with disgust, frowning. This little girl didn’t appear ladylike at all, eating so messily, though she ate quite a lot.
Hmm... She is a bit too thin, doesn’t feel good to the touch.
Still, a little fatter would taste better.
The smile on a certain man’s lips deepened, his eyes darkening mysteriously, already lost in some kind of fantasy.
