Chapter 238: Chapter 159 Pacific Police
The next morning, Minamoto Tamako held her nose and called the section chief, lying guiltily that she accidentally caught a cold yesterday, feeling very weak, and wanted to rest at home for the day... To make it more convincing, she even faked a cough a couple of times.
Kinosaki Shoujin didn’t expose her lie and approved her sick leave readily, casually reminding her to rest well at home.
"Oh, by the way, during my sick leave, do I still get paid?" Minamoto Tamako asked cautiously.
"For sick leave, yes, it’s a paid leave. You just have to submit a leave slip afterward..."
"No no no!" Minamoto Tamako quickly interrupted, "What I mean is, I don’t need today’s pay, after all, I didn’t go to work, how can I keep receiving my salary?"
Kinosaki Shoujin fell silent, and Minamoto Tamako thought there was a line failure, so she mumbled into the receiver a few times.
After a while, Kinosaki Shoujin finally said faintly, "Whatever makes you happy."
Yesterday, he had been aggravated by Fushimi Roku’s reckless spending, now feeling a bit off-balance mentally. Hearing Minamoto Tamako refuse today’s salary, he thought, wealthy families indeed don’t care about pocket change...
"Huh?"
Minamoto Tamako didn’t understand what the chief meant, thinking that she might have said something inappropriate, so she asked a few more questions, and Kinosaki Shoujin had to give some perfunctory replies before hanging up the phone.
The section chief’s tone was so strange, could it be he discovered she was faking illness? Even though she was already pinching her throat to speak, how could the chief still tell...
So odd.
Minamoto Tamako put down the receiver, hesitated for a moment, and didn’t call back.
She really had no face to see her colleagues today, and it took her two hours to mentally prepare herself just to make this sick leave call.
Though on leave, Minamoto Tamako didn’t plan to idle away today either.
Early in the morning, she knocked on the door loudly, waking up Fushimi Roku, and asked about the results of his investigation.
The latter had just woken up, looking sloppy, his hair all messed up like a bird’s nest, and had no mind to answer Minamoto Tamako’s questions. He opened the door and went back to bed to catch up on sleep. Yawning in front of Minamoto Tamako, he casually asked, "What investigation results?"
"Weren’t you undercover in the Aum Truth Sect to investigate the real culprit behind the Heavenly Punishment? What were the results?" Minamoto Tamako reached out to grab the quilt.
Upon hearing this, Fushimi Roku suddenly sobered up, but he pretended to be still drowsy, burying his face in the pillow and casually deflected, "Uh... that... we’ll talk later..."
"How can we talk about it later? What did you find out? Just tell me!" Minamoto Tamako climbed onto the bed, kneeling beside him, continuously pushing and shoving his body.
"Why are you rushing? All you do is rush, rush, rush..." Fushimi Roku covered his ears with both sides of the pillow.
"You didn’t find out anything, did you?" Minamoto Tamako looked doubtful, "Didn’t Uncle Zhao say anything?"
"He did, he said the Sugamo riot was just an accident, there was a criminal police officer hiring gang members to maintain order, but because the gang attitudes were bad, they got into a dispute with the Sugamo residents..."
After speaking, Fushimi Roku went on to explain the scapegoat situation.
Minamoto Tamako was shocked, not expecting that among the newcomers at Sugamo Station front Patrol House, there was actually a gang’s undercover! And she had been so enthusiastic, going out of her way to train the newcomers... did she inadvertently leak any secrets?
"Who? Who’s the scapegoat?" She couldn’t help but ask further.
"How would I know? You can just ask Director Moriki, whoever didn’t come to work is the one." Fushimi Roku snatched back the quilt, wrapping himself up like a cocoon.
With these words, Minamoto Tamako remembered, when Fushimi Roku disappeared, a patrol police officer at the office suddenly took leave to go back home... maybe it was that guy! Her deduction at that time turned out to be accurate!
"So the Aum Truth Sect was the ’we’ mentioned in the tape?" Minamoto Tamako pressed on.
"Yes." Fushimi Roku’s voice was muffled.
"Eh... was it all a misunderstanding?" Minamoto Tamako was very disappointed, the clues she had finally uncovered, all her efforts, ended up being for naught.
"That’s right." Fushimi Roku saved himself the trouble of lying.
With her index finger touching her lower lip and her left hand supporting her right elbow, Minamoto Tamako assumed Conan’s classic thinking pose, the only difference being her lower body was kneeling on the bed, with her small feet tucked under her in a heart shape, sinking into the blanket.
Hmm... thinking carefully, it does seem quite reasonable...
Nagashima Takeshi and others were silenced by the Inakawa Association professionals, causing the Sugamo massacre case; Kamei Yuusaku was slain by the Heavenly Punishment Group, leading to the later train duel case; the Sugamo riot that happened in between was just a small misunderstanding...
But Minamoto Tamako felt that something was not quite right.
If only she could have been on-site to profile, it’s all Mom-chan’s fault for stopping her.
Minamoto Tamako sighed, got off the bed, putting on her shoes, intending to call Senior Kazama to ask how his investigation was going at Hokkaido Daxue Mountain.
But when she picked up the phone, her heart was filled with mixed feelings, not knowing how to start with Senior Kazama, so she returned to Fushimi Roku’s room, reaching out to pull his quilt, "Mr. Fu Jian, do you want to call Senior Kazama?"
"You’re annoying, can’t you see I’m sleeping?" Fushimi Roku tucked the quilt tightly with his hands and feet.
"The sun is already shining on your butt, why are you still sleeping in? Sleeping too long is also bad for your health, and you’re clearly awake!" Minamoto Tamako pushed back and forth with both hands, "Go, come on, aren’t you curious about Senior Kazama’s investigation progress?"
"Not curious."
"Then why don’t I bring the phone into your room and help dial the number, you just need to close your eyes and talk." Minamoto Tamako lay on the bed, sticking her head into Fushimi Roku’s quilt to peek.
The two stared at each other inside the quilt, and Minamoto Tamako got angry, questioning: "You, clearly awake, why are you lying in bed!"
"What does it matter to you? Are you the Pacific Police? Mind your own business!"
Fushimi Roku flung open the quilt, looking displeased, "You’ve been acting strange since yesterday, minding everything, do you really take me for a fool?"
Minamoto Tamako felt a bit guilty, she sat up and softly said, "Well, if you don’t want to, then don’t, I suppose I can make the call myself... hmph..."
Saying this, she turned to get out of bed, and Fushimi Roku fully woke up as well, his brain now fully working, he quickly said, "I’ll make the call."
"Eh?" Minamoto Tamako was very surprised, "Weren’t you going to stay in bed?"
"You’ve already woken me up." Fushimi Roku replied irritably.
He put on his slippers, walked through the living room, with Minamoto Tamako bouncing behind him, watching with anticipation as he made the call to Senior Kazama.
Fushimi Roku held the phone, the ringing sound lasted ten seconds before being answered, and Kazama Tatsuya’s voice came through, "Who is it?"
"It’s me," Fushimi Roku glanced at Minamoto Tamako, "How’s the investigation on the Great Snow Mountain shooting?"
"It’s done," Kazama Tatsuya said, "I’m on my way back."
