Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner -
Chapter 179 - 101: The Lie of Justice
Chapter 179: Chapter 101: The Lie of Justice
Another loud bang echoed, the shockwave shattered a row of windows, and the carriage shook violently. In that same instant, Kazama Chihime dashed forward with a crouched posture, gliding over the snow.
Kazama Tatsuya held his breath and fired three shots obliquely to block the way; Kazama Chihime half-kneeling slid across the snow, sword light sweeping wildly, she dodged one, deflected one, and the last bullet hit her calf directly.
Blood splattered, Kazama Chihime staggered a step. Before she could adjust her stance, Kazama Tatsuya fired another three shots; she flipped in mid-air on the spot, one went wide, one grazed her face, and the last one hit her chest, knocking the breath out of her.
Kazama Chihime knelt on one knee on the ground, coughing while clutching her chest, her lungs twitching continuously, exhaling a misty breath.
Only two bullets left.
If she could endure these two shots, she could survive.
Kazama Chihime looked up and removed her mask. Her eyes were red with tears as she cried, "Dad, I know I was wrong, please... please give me one more chance..."
"Playing this game, huh?" Kazama Tatsuya said, "As long as you can win, any means is okay with you, isn’t it?"
"No, I truly regret it! You taught me from a young age to do the right thing, but I didn’t listen to your teachings..."
Kazama Tatsuya didn’t want to hear any more and pulled the trigger; Kazama Chihime swept her blade upwards, splitting the bullet in two.
"You hesitated," Kazama Chihime sneered, staggering to her feet, "You were supposed to fire two shots; one bullet as a pre-aim was too obvious... How can, as a police officer, you be soft-hearted towards a criminal?"
"To kill you, one shot is enough."
"Then come on."
...
The sound of a gunshot and thunder rang out simultaneously, lightning flashed along with the blade’s gleam.
Kazama Chihime tossed the mask aside, wielding the sword as she charged, a cloud of blood mist burst from Kazama Tatsuya’s ear; he got slashed on the left arm, a crisp clanging sound was heard, he had hidden a prosthetic limb in his sleeve as a disguise.
Before he could engage in close combat, Kazama Chihime spun around and side-kicked, knocking him off balance, forcing him to adjust his stance by the edge of the carriage.
"Goodbye."
Father and daughter exchanged a glance for a second, Kazama Chihime reached out and gently pushed him; he fell from the bridge and plunged into the sea. The waves surged over, leaving no trace.
...
"Jump off the train quickly!"
"It’s going to crash, run away!!"
Panic-stricken shouts erupted inside the carriage. Kazama Chihime, just after bandaging her wounds, looked down to see people in the carriage scrambling to jump off, like dumplings being dropped into boiling water, splashing waves on the sea surface.
She frowned, limping as she jogged, and climbed into the first carriage, grabbing a team member at random to inquire about the situation, only then did she realize that someone using her face had walked into the cockpit and altered the train tracks by radioing the signal station.
That’s right, it was Yougetsu Tsubaki.
The train passed over the bridge and rushed down the slope; to mitigate the gradient, a large section of track ahead was designed to be U-shaped. People stuck their heads out of the windows to see the signal light several kilometers away turn on, indicating the track switch completion — there was another train whistling towards this end on the track!
Only the first batch of people who discovered the track switch jumped off the train; the others hadn’t figured out the situation before it passed the bridge.
Gunshot sounds erupted from the cockpit. Kazama Chihime burst through the door to find Yougetsu Tsubaki shooting at the control panel. First, she damaged the brake controller and then fired randomly at the console.
"What are you doing?!" Kazama Chihime pressed down her wrist, seizing the gun.
"What do you think?!" Yougetsu Tsubaki, eyes red, yelled at her, "Because of all of you, Yuusaku died! I had a bad feeling when Yuusaku answered the call that day — it’s all your fault! You all deserve to die!"
By "you," she meant not only the Heavenly Punishment Group but also the criminal police and Inakawa Association. In Yougetsu Tsubaki’s eyes, everyone on the train was directly or indirectly responsible for Kamei Yuusaku’s death!
"Rush into the cockpit! Perform an emergency detachment of the train head and carriages! As long as the carriage stops, we can all survive!"
Fushimi Roku’s shout came from the back of the carriage, and everyone was red-eyed, the search division and the Inakawa Association working together. Even when the Heavenly Punishment Group threw simple bombs or detonators, a Yakuza would pounce to catch them and throw them out the window.
Even if the Heavenly Punishment Group wanted to clear the way, there was no chance. Some tried to jump off the train to escape, only to end up as pulp. Under the pressure of futile death, the morale of the Heavenly Punishment Group collapsed quickly.
Fushimi Roku took the lead, charging into the cockpit, just in time to see Kazama Chihime decapitate Yougetsu Tsubaki with one strike; Minamoto Tamako followed closely, her little brain froze for two seconds upon witnessing the scene.
How could there be two Chihime-sans?
Did Chihime-san kill Chihime-san?
No time for idle talk, Fushimi Roku shut down the brake system, disconnecting the air path, took out the manual release handle, prepared for manual detachment. In his past life, he often watched some craft videos, like repairing donkey hooves, restoring old items, disassembling train parts... all thought to be useless cold knowledge, yet it turned out to be useful today.
Minamoto Tamako snapped out of it, unable to help but ask, "What about the train on the opposite side?!"
Even if the carriage is detached, the train head will still speed forward; without the weight of the carriage, the train head goes even faster. Once it collides with the oncoming train, it surely will be a disastrous outcome!
"Save as many as we can!" Fushimi Roku pulled hard on the latch without raising his head.
Kazama Chihime watched coldly, with four or five criminal police in the opposite carriage aiming their guns at her; if not for Fushimi Roku blocking the shooting angle, she would have been riddled with bullets by now.
Minamoto Tamako hastily pressed his wrist in an effort to dissuade him, "Wait— isn’t it supposed to be detached from the carriage? If you detach the latch in the cockpit, how will you get off the train?!"
"There’s an emergency repair manual in the train head, the control panel is just broken, open the circuit box and there’s still a chance to brake!" Fushimi Roku shook her hand off.
Minamoto Tamako was stunned; she never expected that Mr. Fushimi could say something like that.
What if the circuit fails?
What if there’s not enough time to brake?
In the cockpit collision with a train head, it’s easy to figure out that there’s no chance of survival... Not only did Minamoto Tamako fall silent, but even the criminal police and Yakuza packed in the carriage fell silent.
Kinosaki Shoujin really did not expect that the guy, who only knew to slack off and eat soft rice, could sacrifice himself without hesitation to save people. To speak frankly, until this moment, Kinosaki Shoujin suspected Fushimi Roku had some ulterior motive for doing this—after all, it was a stark contrast to his usual behavior.
"I’ll go with you!"
Minamoto Tamako made a quick decision, stretching out her little hand to help pull the latch, "One person flips through the manual, the other handles the circuit, two people have a better chance at stopping the train!"
Fushimi Roku was noncommittal, he channeled his strength, and with a creaking sound, pulled open the last safety clip of the latch.
Then, he placed his right hand on the manual release handle and said, "Tamako, help clear out the people in the compartment."
Minamoto Tamako did not doubt him, she waved everyone back and shouted loudly, "The detachment is about to happen! Everyone be careful not to fall off—"
Before she could finish, she felt herself being lifted and thrown to the opposite side.
The criminal police and Yakuza clumsily caught Lady Yu Zi, Minamoto Tamako turned back in panic to see Fushimi Roku forcibly yanking down the handle, with a clanking sound, separating the train head and carriage.
Separated by the train door, their distance grew wider and wider.
—Liar!
Minamoto Tamako’s eyes widened, her pupils reflected the face of Fushimi Roku gazing coldly. She opened her mouth but no voice came out, tears uncontrollably streaming down her face.
"Didn’t you ask why I didn’t agree with Instructor Shirota’s "Law is Justice"?"
Fushimi Roku’s shout echoed in the wind, Minamoto Tamako truly heard it, she heard the heartfelt answer from her partner:
"Watch closely, this is true justice!"
