Chapter 175: Chapter 97 The Death of Officer Tamako
Fushimi Roku took the lead, walking at the front, with the others closely following behind.
The four of them passed through the passageway to the next carriage, where the scene was equally gruesome. The windows were open, and a dozen Yakuza corpses lay sprawled on the ground, with a thin layer of blood and snow covering them.
Minamoto Tamako counted the bodies, thinking that although they were all Yakuza, it was still a major case. The Sugamo Apartment massacre had only eighteen deaths, and the bodies in the two carriages already doubled that number... Compared to that, the Heavenly Punishment Group is really terrifying!
If the Heavenly Punishment Group is allowed to continue, wouldn’t Tokyo become a chaotic scene where everyone fears for their lives?
No wonder the Investigation Department organized a massive arrest operation. Even someone like Fushimi Roku, who usually slacked off, was involved. Minamoto Tamako felt the heavy responsibility on her shoulders, and she too wanted to contribute her strength!
"By the way, since you’re here for the mission, why didn’t you bring your police gun?"
Minamoto Tamako stuck close behind Fushimi Roku, peering around as she walked and asked, "And you didn’t bring a walkie-talkie either. If you find a suspect, how will you call for backup?"
Fushimi Roku didn’t turn back, leaning against the door at the end of the passageway, observing the next carriage: "I told you, this is a secret mission. I’m already giving you a hint, so why are you still prying?"
Minamoto Tamako had nothing to say. She hadn’t been officially included in this mission; to be rude, she had tagged along of her own accord.
She could have hidden and let the Investigation Department’s criminal police take the lead. But as a police officer, her pride compelled her to muster the courage to step forward.
Saying she’s not afraid would be a lie.
The Heavenly Punishment Group killed like madmen, causing a tremendous impact on Minamoto Tamako’s little heart. She never imagined something so terrifying existed in the world: it could make an ordinary person remarkably fanatical, willing to sacrifice their life in battle, even bullets couldn’t stop them... She wondered what kind of brainwashing the leader of the Heavenly Punishment Group had done to its members.
However, justice will eventually triumph over evil!
Even if the Heavenly Punishment Group could run rampant for a while, they would inevitably be captured by the Investigation Department’s criminal police in the end! Minamoto Tamako encouraged herself, thinking of herself aiming to become a famous police chief, she couldn’t retreat at such a crucial moment, could she?
Minamoto Tamako had already decided that if a suspect refused to be captured, she would have no choice but to open fire, engaging the mob in a fierce gun battle in the carriage. At that time, with blood and flesh flying and screams resounding, she would either showcase her skills or be struck down and heroically sacrifice herself... That’s right, she had already prepared for the possibility of sacrifice!
Thinking she might die, Minamoto Tamako couldn’t help but fantasize about the scene after her death: Officer Tamako defeated the Heavenly Punishment Group but exhausted her last bit of strength, collapsing into a pool of blood under everyone’s gaze. Fushimi Mr. Fushimi cradling her head, tearfully saying, ’Hang in there! Don’t die!’, she with blood on her lips, weakly left her last words: ’Sakurako and the little cake in the fridge... I entrust them to you...’ Then, she closed her eyes and passed away peacefully.
Next, the scene shifted to her funeral, with Mama sobbing and Director Moriki giving a eulogy, saying she was a very outstanding police officer, the only regret being that they couldn’t promote her to criminal police sooner...
Before Minamoto Tamako’s mind theater played out the "ghost dreams" scene, there was a sudden burst of gunfire from the carriage behind, crackling like firecrackers.
Minamoto Tamako was startled, quickly turning with her gun in hand, thinking perhaps her fantasy was about to come true. Everyone dispersed, hiding behind seatbacks, turning back in unison, and with a bang, the door at the other end of the carriage was violently flung open.
A woman with a masked face, wearing a Sword Dao uniform, charged forward with a sword, stepping on the seats and dashing through like a swan gliding across water. Two rows of bullets swept in from both sides, leaving fine bullet holes behind her. Sparks flew in the carriage, with the wind howling, and the criminal police shouted from behind her, "Stop her! Don’t let her escape!"
Minamoto Tamako moved instinctively, kneeling on one knee on the seat, holding her gun with both hands, her forearms supported by the seatback, with a focused expression, aiming at the incoming person’s legs, she fired continuously!
The woman alternated sidesteps, three gunshots rang out, the bullets grazed the hem of her body armor.
Minamoto Tamako had no time to think, breathing in and out, the woman was already upon her, Minamoto Tamako fired again, aiming at the shoulder and arm, but the woman bent her waist and spun, her tachi vibrating thrice, deflecting the bullets, sparks illuminating the terrifying animalistic eyes behind the mask.
A streak of sword light, breaking through the snow!
For a moment, Minamoto Tamako thought she was really going to die. Her brain froze, and forgotten trivial memories flooded back like a carousel, the sharp edge in front of her magnifying rapidly, she experienced the great terror between life and death.
——Clang!!
Metal clashed with a violent noise, and Minamoto Tamako’s vision blurred, her ears ringing. In a flash, Fushimi Roku held a steel clamp, suddenly lifting it up, blocking in front of her.
The strike missed, the woman weaved past, not lingering for battle. She passed through the carriage, closing the partition door behind her.
Fushimi Roku didn’t chase, looking down at the steel clamp in his hand, which had a notch cut into it. His fingers went numb from the shock, indicating the other’s strength might exceed his own.
The criminal police were rushing to catch up, led by Kinosaki Shoujin. Just now, seeing that sword slashing towards Minamoto Tamako made his heart nearly stop, he would’ve jumped in to block it himself. Fortunately, Lady Tamako was unharmed; otherwise, even peeling off his skin wouldn’t suffice for atonement.
Kinosaki Shoujin paused for a moment, asked a few questions to confirm Minamoto Tamako was alright, and then prepared to continue the pursuit. Fushimi Roku grabbed him and asked what was happening now, to which Kinosaki Shoujin coldly replied, "The Heavenly Punishment Group has seized the control cabin, they have walkie-talkies and radios, they can contact the station dispatcher and remotely control the switches through the signal system..."
"Get to the point," Fushimi Roku interrupted.
"The key is we don’t know where they intend to take the train," Kinosaki Shoujin said.
Fushimi Roku understood that if the Heavenly Punishment Group took the train to the desolate secret station, everyone would be fish on the chopping block—even if someone could contact the outside world, reinforcements wouldn’t arrive in time.
Moreover, the Heavenly Punishment Group might have prepared escape vehicles at the ’terminal’. If they really escaped, the joint capture operation by the police and the underworld would become a colossal joke.
"Now everyone is in the first three carriages, with the Heavenly Punishment Group and the Investigation Department in a standoff, most of the Inakawa Association are dead, the rest are ’forced into self-defense’." Kinosaki Shoujin briefly explained the situation and reminded before leaving, "Don’t approach the front carriages, stay here, and protect yourself!"
After that, he took his team to the next carriage.
Minamoto Tamako stood dazed for a while, and only after everyone had left did she regain her senses, muttering to herself in a low voice, "Is she... the leader of the Heavenly Punishment Group... So impressive..."
