Chapter 173: Chapter 95: Rivers of Blood
"Ahhhhhhh—someone’s dead!!"
Yougetsu Tsubaki let out a high-pitched scream, trembling like a leaf.
The entire process of the strange man’s death was shocking, but after she vented her emotions with shouting, she realized the carriage was eerily silent.
Yougetsu Tsubaki froze for a moment and looked around. Aside from the rumbling and the sound of the carriage shaking, not a single person spoke. The oppressive and murderous atmosphere made her break out in goosebumps.
"Wh-what is going on..."
Only then did Yougetsu Tsubaki notice that the young man sitting next to her remained calm, and the two cute girls opposite were not panicking either, as if she were the only one making a fuss in the entire carriage.
"Let’s go, Mr. Fushimi, let’s check the situation."
Minamoto Tamako stood up, not one to ignore a murder even on a business trip.
Fushimi Roku sighed, stood up, and signaled Taira Sakurako to follow with his eyes. The three of them left their seats simultaneously, walked down the aisle, and opened the compartment door.
The compartment was loud, making Minamoto Tamako’s ears buzz. She was about to open the compartment door to the next carriage when Fushimi Roku held her shoulder.
"What’s the matter?" she turned back and asked loudly.
"Wait a minute," Fushimi Roku said.
"Wait for what?" Minamoto Tamako was puzzled.
Before Fushimi Roku could answer, another loud noise came, shaking the three of them. Fushimi Roku steadied Taira Sakurako, and they looked up to see another man falling off the train outside the window.
Minamoto Tamako was stunned, and before she could react, a roar erupted from the rear carriages. She stood on tiptoe, peering through the glass, and her eyes widened.
The carriage had turned into a battlefield for hand-to-hand combat. Those seemingly normal passengers drew their katanas, shouting and hacking at the Yakuza. Caught off guard, most passengers were killed or injured, blood splattering, and wails kept sounding!
The plainclothes criminal police quickly drew their guns, shouting angrily to stop it, when the previously worried-looking man suddenly jumped out. He stood on the seat, violently tore open his loose robe, revealing a ring of detonators around his waist, and roared, "If you dare shoot, we die together!"
The police were stunned, momentarily unsure of what to do.
The Yakuza tried to resist, preferring to be shot to death rather than blown up, so they immediately drew their pistols and fired.
Several passengers fell to the ground, but then more people pounced. The confined space was more suitable for melee, and in an instant, the gang members were either hacked to the ground or died on the spot. Those who survived were also disarmed.
Chicken Crown Head held a blood-stained katana, grinning brutally as he forced the last surviving Yakuza member to kneel in the aisle. Some police wanted to intervene but were suppressed by the group of thugs; Minamoto Tamako wanted to help but was silenced by Fushimi Roku.
With everyone watching, Chicken Crown Head raised the katana high, beheading the Yakuza member in front of all the police, and impaled the head on the blade tip, shaking it up and down while shouting slogans:
"Heavenly Punishment!!"
The remaining passengers echoed him, stomping their feet in unison, chanting with Chicken Crown Head: "Heavenly Punishment! Heavenly Punishment! Heavenly Punishment!"
The police gathered at the other end of the carriage, momentarily in a dilemma. They wanted to call and report to their superiors, but there was no signal in the carriage. Turning around, they saw that the train had already entered the mountains.
Minamoto Tamako finally realized that the dead were all gang members, the ones in trench coats were plainclothes police, and the remaining passengers were all Heavenly Punishment Group members...
No, there was Little Leaf!
Little Leaf must be a good person; how could such a gentle young girl be a member of the Heavenly Punishment Group?
Minamoto Tamako was anxious, her eyes searching around, but she did not see Yougetsu Tsubaki anywhere, nor did she know if she had escaped early or died behind the seat.
Fushimi Roku noticed someone turning their head, immediately pressing down on Minamoto Tamako’s head, squatting down with her—Taira Sakurako was too short to reach the window, so there was no need to worry about her.
Amid the rumbling wheels, footsteps were faintly heard outside the door, indicating that someone was approaching.
Minamoto Tamako was panicking, her heart racing up to 180 mph. Before she could think of a solution, Fushimi Roku dragged them both into the bathroom compartment, locking the door behind them.
This situation was not suitable for a head-to-head confrontation; he could protect himself, but there was no way he could also look out for Minamoto Tamako and Taira Sakurako. Furthermore, with a madman carrying explosives in the Heavenly Punishment Group, if provoked to go down together, wouldn’t that spell disaster for him?
It was better to lay low for a moment.
A moment later, the footsteps stopped at the door. Someone knocked, and Fushimi Roku, in a high-pitched voice, said, "Occupied."
The person outside did not leave but instead asked a strange question: "What do you do for a living?"
"Civil servant, why?" Fushimi Roku said.
The person did not respond. After another set of footsteps, it seemed they had left.
Minamoto Tamako let out a heavy sigh of relief, lifted her head, and exchanged a glance with Fushimi Roku in the cramped bathroom.
When Taira Sakurako left, she had taken an unfinished orange with her. Now she leaned in the corner, hugging the orange and looking around.
"You, this... don’t you plan to explain?" Minamoto Tamako was angry, her cheeks puffing up, indicating she was very, very furious.
Fushimi Roku sat on the toilet lid, sighed, and shook his head repeatedly, performing a series of ’let me explain myself’ pre-cautions, and said, "Explain what? I told you ahead of time, didn’t I?"
"No way! You clearly hid something from me—"
Minamoto Tamako instinctively raised her voice, but she quickly realized and hurriedly covered her mouth.
"I clearly stated: ’The Police Department is planning a special mission targeting the Heavenly Punishment Group’s capture operation’—see, isn’t this it?" Fushimi Roku pursed his lips.
"Ah..."
Minamoto Tamako remembered, but she had thought the capture operation would take place in Shizuoka Prefecture or elsewhere... at the very least wait until the train was at a station, right? Who would conduct a mission on a train?
But rethinking it, it made sense. The Police Department might have received intelligence that the Heavenly Punishment Group planned to hijack the train and massacre the gang members, thus deploying the investigation division’s criminal police to carry out the capture mission.
But then again, why were those Yakuza grouped together on the train? Could they have been heading for a hot spring trip? Or maybe Tokyo had become too difficult for them, so they planned to expand their business into the countryside?
Minamoto Tamako bit her nails, lost in thought.
Suddenly, there was another knock on the door, this time more urgent than before. Fushimi Roku repeated his previous tactic, saying in a high voice that it was occupied, but outside came an urgent and familiar cry for help: "Please, let me in and hide! They’re all crazy out there!"
Minamoto Tamako’s expression changed slightly; she recognized it was Chihime’s voice.
