Chapter 170: Chapter 92 Ready to Depart!!
"I haven’t fallen so low as to instruct gangsters to kill... and I don’t even know her."
Fushimi Roku’s words were a refusal. No matter how much he wanted to eliminate threats, he couldn’t openly ask Sazaki Gen for help. Once he informed the gang and revealed that person’s name, he would cross the red line publicly.
After all, personal matters must be resolved personally.
"Is that so."
Sazaki Gen looked disappointed and admitted, "It doesn’t matter anyway, we’ll just keep an eye on you, and eventually, that woman will come to you."
"A gang tailing criminal police, huh? How did you come up with this? Do you have subordinates with clean records yet reliable work ethics?" Fushimi Roku joked with a smile, "Or are they your colleagues?"
Sazaki Gen removed his frameless glasses and wiped them with a cloth, "Before you came, I had a talk with the senior officials at the Police Department... We’ve reached a consensus, deciding to cooperate fully to eliminate the ’Heavenly Punishment Group’ and arrest or kill the culprits."
"Ah, is that so."
Fushimi Roku quickly weighed the pros and cons in his mind.
If he revealed Kazama Chihime’s name, it would be tantamount to a confession by implication. If investigated later, he wouldn’t be able to clear himself even if he jumped into the Yellow River; if he didn’t report Kazama Chihime’s name and if she got caught, he wouldn’t have a good outcome either.
The biggest problem was Zhao Chunshu being captured, as he was a key witness who could prove that Fushimi Roku orchestrated the Sugamo riot. Otherwise, even if Kazama Chihime caused a stir, it wouldn’t be such a headache for him.
After all, it’s because the underworld has declined. Fifty or sixty years ago, Kazama Chihime would have been gunned down with an AK long ago. Back then, the underworld had street battles every three days, gang fights every five, always on the verge of life and death fights, never lounging in luxury offices smoking, drinking, and playing cards.
"Yeah, the Police Department will also assign people to follow you," Sazaki Gen said.
"Have you already informed them?" Fushimi Roku asked.
"Of course not, you and I are in the same boat. But you’d better not go to the securities company recently, and don’t handle the gifts I sent you. The Police Department is investigating your relationship with the Inakawa Association. With Kaga Keido and me vouching for you, you are temporarily clean."
"I was clean to begin with," Fushimi Roku emphasized.
"Say what you want, anyway, the Heavenly Punishment Group claims to punish only the guilty."
Sazaki Gen paused, put his frameless glasses back on, the glass lenses reflecting a cold light. "Now everyone knows that the next target of the Heavenly Punishment Group’s leader is you."
"So... I’ve become the bait?" Fushimi Roku held his head.
"Yes," Sazaki Gen said.
The existence of the Heavenly Punishment Group has shaken the order at the bottom of society, causing headaches not only for the Police Department but also touching the interests of the gangs. If it grows any larger, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it terrorism, naturally making it the primary target for elimination.
Whether Fushimi Roku is willing or not, this capture/kill operation is bound to happen.
"To be honest, I’m planning to travel to Shizuoka Prefecture today," Fushimi Roku stretched lazily, got up, and said, "The schedule’s tight, so I won’t stay any longer."
"Take care," Sazaki Gen patted the armrest of his wheelchair, "I won’t see you off."
Fushimi Roku grunted, pushed open the door, and left.
He took a breath of fresh air, walked quickly through the crime scene, greeted a few criminal police officers, asked colleagues to note that he went on field duty, and then took the elevator downstairs.
What a hassle...
So this is what it feels like to be fixated on by a stalker? It’s not as wonderful as imagined.
Fushimi Roku, at least with Lv2 Tracking Skill, could tell after Sazaki Gen’s reminder that there were quite a few people in the field following him.
For example, the guy behind him reading the newspaper while walking was obviously a criminal police officer, bold and uninhibited; gangsters were more sleazy, pushing an ice cream cart, moving like a snail, making some extra money now and then; and that guy feeding pigeons, such a pretender, sprinkling breadcrumbs while pressing on an earpiece...
These were just the visible trackers; who knows how many were in the shadows.
Fushimi Roku slowed his pace, thinking as he walked. He could definitely find a way to shake them off and disappear. But what then? There’s no logic in preventing a thief for a thousand days. Avoiding problems isn’t his style. If Kazama Chihime wants to play with him... let her come.
Before that, preparations must be made.
Fushimi Roku had spent some time browsing hardware stores earlier, and the accumulated experience finally came in handy. He leisurely went to the store to buy a pair of pipe wrenches, a box of ball-bearings, and a safety helmet. He had checked beforehand, and these items could pass through the Shinkansen’s security checks.
After shopping, Fushimi Roku went to the station to buy three window-side reserved seat tickets. The moment he left, a long line formed at the ticket window. In less than two minutes, the window displayed a ’sold-out’ sign.
"I’m back."
Fushimi Roku turned the key in the lock, opened the apartment door. This time, Taira Sakurako finally came to greet him, though not as enthusiastically as he’d imagined.
She had a small blue backpack on her back, carried a big cardboard box, had masks hanging around her waist, and her whole ensemble seemed to say, ’I’m ready.’
"What did you buy?"
Minamoto Tamako curiously poked her head out. She had been planning to sneak out but worried that if Mr. Fushimi returned and didn’t see her, he would become suspicious, so after hesitating several times, she gave up the idea.
"Travel supplies... oh, and I bought a ticket for you too. If you feel too idle, you can tag along. If you don’t want to, just pretend I didn’t mention it."
Fushimi Roku casually tossed the ticket over, and Minamoto Tamako quickly extended her fingers, intending to catch it coolly. However, her small hand missed, and the edge of the ticket hit her forehead with a ’whoosh’ and bounced away.
"Ouch!"
Minamoto Tamako rubbed her forehead, picked up the ticket, and complained, "Couldn’t you hand it over properly?"
Fushimi Roku couldn’t be bothered to reply. He packed his bags by himself, putting away all the ’travel supplies’ into his backpack.
"Well, I guess I can tag along, but... um, but..."
Minamoto Tamako intended to say something polite, but after speaking, she couldn’t think of a reasonable excuse.
"Seeing that you’re my partner, I’ll let you in on a secret; you better not tell anyone," Fushimi Roku bent down, leaned towards Minamoto Tamako’s ear, and whispered, "I’m actually on a business trip this time, accompanying Sakurako to Shizuoka Prefecture, as the Police Department is planning a special operation... aimed at capturing the Heavenly Punishment Group."
Minamoto Tamako’s eyes widened, looking at Fushimi Roku, then at the ticket in her hand.
"How about it, I’m good to you, right?" Fushimi Roku straightened his back.
"So, so good!"
Minamoto Tamako was almost moved to tears. Although Mr. Fushimi liked to slack off usually, he was quite reliable when it mattered!
"Since it’s a long trip, remember to let your mom know that you’re safe," Fushimi Roku said with a smile.
