Chapter 167: Chapter 89: Heaven’s Punishment Arrives
The old man said so, but upon learning that Minamoto Tamako was mocked at school because of it, he quit the street sweeping job.
Even so, he didn’t idle but started tending to the flowers and plants in the garden. No matter how difficult it was to care for azaleas, Gioiko cherry blossoms, or five-needle pines from Nasu, he cultivated them so well that they thrived profusely, and every year the garden was a riot of color during the flowering season.
As long as his granddaughter liked them, he would pick a few of the most beautiful flowers, put them in a vase, and place it in the living room.
Minamoto Tamako still remembers that when she was in middle school, a nasty stray dog came to the town district and often snuck into the garden to mess with the flowers and plants. Her grandfather waged a battle of wits and courage with the stray dog, guarding the garden and repeatedly driving it away, which caused the dog to hold a grudge against him.
Until one day after school, the stray dog suddenly sprang out, deliberately seeking revenge, biting her hard, leaving her calf bloody. She cried out in pain, gasping for breath, and to this day, there are still several faint scars on her calf, reminders of those wounds.
With a stern face, her grandfather took her to get vaccinated and upon returning, said nothing, only told her to rest early.
That day, before the sun set and before the moon rose, her grandfather went out with a grass fork and rope. The howling of dogs echoed through the night, and Minamoto Tamako had nightmares all night long.
The next morning, her grandfather came home carrying four dog corpses, half his body covered in blood. He avoided his granddaughter and buried the dogs in the garden.
And Minamoto Tamako, peering through the crack in the window, saw the whole process.
...
The memory came to an abrupt end, as Minamoto Tamako leaned against the bathroom door, finally lowering her head and saying:
"I was really immature back then... if I could see grandfather again, I would sincerely apologize to him."
"What, did something shameful against your grandfather?" Fushimi Roku asked with a sidelong glance.
"It’s just, I said some... really horrible things," Minamoto Tamako’s voice trailed off: "I know I was wrong, but I didn’t get the chance to apologize to him."
"Eh—"
Fushimi Roku elongated his tone, sarcastically saying: "Could it be that you accused your grandfather of indiscriminately killing dogs?"
"How could that be! I’m not an idiot; a stray dog that bites should legally be put down, and grandfather did it to protect me... how could I blame him over this?"
Minamoto Tamako became more and more upset as she spoke, though she wasn’t lying, she felt that continuing the conversation would only make her more anxious: "Forget it, I’m not talking to you about this anymore!"
She stomped her foot, turned around, and went back to her room, planning to write down the case details she gathered today on paper.
After Minamoto Tamako closed her door, Fushimi Roku turned back, pressed the switch of the water heater. Jun the dog was almost fluffy from being in the water for so long, and seeing that the washing was finally done, he quickly spun his body to shake off the water.
Pet hair dryers weren’t common these days, so Fushimi Roku could only use a hair dryer to dry its fur.
Half an hour later, Jun’s fur was fluffy and majestic, looking like a Lion King. Just as he raised his head preparing to frolic around, Fushimi Roku knocked him on the dog head.
"You caused me to do something bad, yet you have it easy! Don’t dig things from the ground at random anymore, got it?"
Fushimi Roku sighed, talking to himself: "Your master is kind-hearted and can’t bear such brutal scenes, so we just have to close our eyes and pretend we didn’t see them."
Jun seemed to understand partially, tilting his head, and let out a bark.
...
The next day, Fushimi Roku went to the stock exchange to buy stocks, entrusting a financial company to manage them. In the following two weeks, the stocks he bought rose steadily, transferring from one hand to the other, he managed to scoop up the solid Daifuku.
During this period, the Sugamo district noticeably became quieter.
No more purple and red lights illuminated the apartment buildings, street performers disappeared, and the Bosozoku had their ’tools of crime’ confiscated, even the roars of motorcycles and sports cars vanished. Sugamo was rejuvenated to the point where patrol police were slacking off.
Truly infuriating.
Cleansing at neither the early nor the late time, but precisely after he was transferred, cleaning up the negative atmosphere. Isn’t this like finding out the school refurbished after graduation? Couldn’t Sugamo have been cleansed before he transferred here?
It wasn’t over yet, Minamoto Tamako increasingly frequently asked about various case details, annoying him more and more, so he could only vent a little anger at night by attacking Minamoto Tamako’s kidney reflex area.
Recently, Fushimi Roku noticed something was off with Minamoto Tamako.
Although Minamoto Tamako always looked unwilling, she insisted he help massage her feet daily. After going through the process of heavy breathing, repeated pleading, and a confused state, she would bathe at a fixed time and ask for a massage again the next day, without which she would be displeased... he couldn’t help but think Minamoto Tamako might gradually be getting a little addicted.
Something was really not right.
Though his Intelligence Attribute was as high as S-Class, Fushimi Roku couldn’t figure out what was in Minamoto Tamako’s little mind... sometimes she was easy to understand, but other times, she seemed to have a lot of little secrets.
...
That night, the bright moon hung high.
On top of Ikebukuro west gate, inside the Tobu Department Store office building, the commercial office floors were still lit.
Several men in suits sat in the corridor, grouped around the safety passage, elevator entrance, and corridor door, playing cards and smoking, but not drinking.
"Someone’s coming." The walkie-talkie buzzed with a report.
The three men stationed at the elevator entrance tossed their cards, their elbows faintly showed tattoos. They all turned their heads to see the elevator display light up, with the numbers continuously updating.
After ten seconds, accompanied by a ding sound, the elevator door opened, its warm yellow lights illuminating the inside.
The men let out a low murmur of surprise, turning their heads to look at the woman standing in the elevator. She wore sunglasses, a fitted black long dress, a fur stole around her neck, light makeup on her face, and an exceptionally curvaceous figure.
"So big..."
Someone unconsciously spoke his thoughts out loud, earning a kick from his subordinate. This was not a woman they could comment on; it’s the one summoned by the boss.
"This way, Miss Rinka."
The lieutenant stepped forward to greet her, leading the woman into the room.
The company interior wasn’t large, with a plaque on the wall reading ’Loyalty, Courage, and Valor,’ a landscape fish tank on the side, and a circle of leather sofas around the coffee table. The woman removed her sunglasses, her gaze lingered in the corner, where a katana was displayed on a stand.
"Is this real?" she asked.
"Of course it’s real," the lieutenant urged: "The big brother is still waiting for you..." He hadn’t finished his sentence when he saw the woman stepping forward, picking up the katana, and pushing it open an inch with her thumb.
"Hmm, nice sword." The woman praised.
"Good eye." A man’s voice agreed from behind.
Turning her head, the woman saw Ishii Takamasa with arms crossed, leaning against the doorframe, looking her up and down: "Miss Rinka doesn’t have such a good figure... may I ask, who are you?"
"Is Mr. Zhao in?" the woman replied with another question.
"Eh, are you Ashu’s lover? I thought he wasn’t interested in Japanese women!" Ishii Takamasa’s eyes widened in slight surprise. He turned around and shouted back into the room: "Ashu, there’s a super hot woman looking for you!"
"Who is it?" Zhao Chunshu peeked out.
And just one look made him starstruck.
The woman smiled gently, claiming to inquire about someone who had financial dealings with the Inakawa Association, and that not long ago, cadres of the Sazaki Gen sent that person a bag of ’condolence items.’ Several cadres stepped out of the office, gathered around, and remained silent. In the public eye, the woman said, "Gentlemen, might you share how Nagashima Takeshi died?"
Ishii Takamasa raised an eyebrow: "What if I say it’s inconvenient?"
The woman placed her left hand on the sword’s hilt: "I am Tenchu, nice to meet you."
