Chapter 123: Chapter 45: Killing Three Birds with One Arrow
"Criminal index": ???
"Vices": Sadistic Killing
"Clearance Reward": Eliminate Kazama Chihime’s crimes to obtain Level 7 Fujikishin Kenjutsu
...
Kazama Chihime’s eyelids slightly curved as she glanced upward with curiosity. "Mr. Fushimi, what are you looking at?" she asked.
"Nothing, just got sand in my eyes," Fushimi Roku turned his face away, suppressing the astonishment in his heart.
"Oh, which eye?" Kazama Chihime looked concerned.
"Both of them," Fushimi Roku said.
"Let me blow it for you."
"No need..."
"Please let me help. Getting sand in your eyes is no small matter; it could lead to an infection."
Kazama Chihime gently cupped his face and leaned in closer. Fushimi Roku could feel a pair of heavy softness press against his chest, her fair face filling his view, her breath warm on his skin, as her full red lips parted to blow.
"Huff... huff... feeling better? Don’t rub your eyes with your hands," Kazama Chihime spoke softly.
"Much better," Fushimi Roku studied her, seeing no hint of pretense in her expression, his suspicions only deepened.
Kazama Chihime pulled Fushimi Roku into the living room, letting him rest his head on her lap as she bent slightly to carefully apply eye drops. Fushimi Roku didn’t refuse, and as his head rested on her plump thighs, he realized they weren’t flabby but rather toned with muscle.
From this angle, he couldn’t help but notice how large they were, the white sweater exuding a strong ’housewife’ vibe.
Of course, Fushimi Roku wasn’t trying to take advantage of her; he just wanted to find some flaws in her behavior. If her concern was an act, it was incredibly convincing—she deserved an Oscar at the very least.
While enjoying the eye drop treatment, his gaze involuntarily lingered on the top of Kazama Chihime’s head.
Why is the criminal index question marks for someone? Does that mean high or low? Could it be like in some card games, where a question mark equals infinity?
Then, Fushimi Roku realized his thoughts had gone astray. He had always considered this value as a ’fixed factual value,’ like a human body’s percentage of water content, something that could slightly fluctuate but generally exists factually.
However, the system labels it as "criminal index," which can be interpreted in many ways. It could represent the probability of future crimes, the sum of past vices, or even a prediction of personal character.
Perhaps it’s because her criminal index is hard to determine that it shows three question marks.
...
Minamoto Tamako’s little curl bounced around as she hugged a sofa pillow, her small mouth pouting unconsciously. She didn’t even know why she felt angry; it just looked irritating, prompting her to mutter, "It’s just sand in the eye, is it really worth this fuss?"
"Ah, Tamako-chan, life is very fragile, you know."
Kazama Chihime turned her head, speaking with the tone of an older sister advising a child, "The human body is more delicate than you think. Whether it’s a cut on the finger or sand in the eye, both can cause irreversible damage to the body. So you must have a sense of safety precautions to protect your body."
Minamoto Tamako wasn’t stupid; she had obviously heard about cases where cutting vegetables led to sepsis, and she also knew that sand in the eye could potentially cause keratitis... But those are one-in-a-million cases, not something to be this cautious about, right?
And why use that posture to apply eye drops? Fushimi Roku was even squinting with an expression of enjoyment; it was infuriating!
Minamoto Tamako turned her head, expecting Kazama Tatsuya to say something. Unexpectedly, he was engrossed in watching TV, nestled by the kotatsu, immobile, as if he didn’t care about his own ’cabbage being rooted by a pig.’
Strange, why did Senior Kazama seem unfamiliar with his own daughter?
Upon reflection, she’d never heard Senior Kazama mention his daughter, let alone frequently return home for visits...
Could they have had a fight?
Just as Minamoto Tamako was contemplating an excuse to pull Fushimi Roku up, the living room’s landline phone rang. Kazama Chihime asked Fushimi Roku if he was feeling better, received an affirmative answer, and then got up to answer the phone.
"Moses... yes, this is the Kazama Family... ah, I see..."
Kazama Chihime turned around, covering the receiver as she shouted, "Dad, it’s for you again."
Kazama Tatsuya finally moved. Without saying a word, he took the receiver, mhmm’ed a few times, and then said, "I’ll be there right away," before hanging up.
"What is it?" Kazama Chihime asked.
"A case."
Kazama Tatsuya put on a sweater, slipped on his police uniform, and prepared to leave.
That’s what being a criminal police officer is like—basically on standby 24/7, not allowed to turn off phones or beepers, and ready to rush to the scene immediately if a severe case happens in the area. The lucky ones get to take shifts and have days off; the unlucky ones are almost working all year round.
Minamoto Tamako’s top curl stood up at the mention of a case. She eagerly volunteered to go help, winking persistently at Fushimi Roku. Finally, a severe case, she couldn’t miss it this time!
Fushimi Roku, full and content, didn’t want to move, excusing himself by saying he needed to stay home to take care of Taira Sakurako. Kazama Chihime offered to help watch over the child...
"No!" Kazama Tatsuya’s stern voice cut in.
Minamoto Tamako jumped at his strong reaction, and Taira Sakurako ducked back into the cardboard box in fear; Fushimi Roku and Kazama Chihime stood in stunned silence, the former’s eyes meaningful, the latter’s expression slightly complex.
"Wh-what’s wrong?" Minamoto Tamako had no idea what she’d said wrong.
"Nothing, just no. It’s not safe to leave a child home alone," Kazama Tatsuya turned away, sitting at the entryway steps to change his shoes.
Minamoto Tamako finally breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that Senior Kazama was concerned about Sakurako’s safety; indeed, he was a good man with a cold exterior but a warm heart!
However, why couldn’t Chihime take care of her? Didn’t she do well looking after that Fushimi kid? Now she’s even reluctant to go out and investigate... The more Minamoto Tamako thought, the angrier she became. She considered leaving Fushimi Roku behind to help investigate, but then realized that doing so would leave them alone!?
A single man and woman, alone in one room, how improper! They’re good partners, so living together could be justified, but Chihime isn’t part of the detective team—if something were to happen, who would be responsible? This isn’t right, truly not right!
A light bulb went off in Minamoto Tamako’s mind. She punched her right fist into her left palm, suggesting taking Taira Sakurako along to the crime scene, letting Sakurako experience the charm of detective work, with Fushimi Roku carrying a travel bag and the child—a three-in-one stroke!
Fushimi Roku opposed the idea, insisting that exposing a child to such gruesome sights would undoubtedly leave Sakurako with psychological scars!
Taira Sakurako chose this moment to poke her head out, handing over a slip of paper that read, ’I want to go.’
Everyone exchanged glances, the living room suddenly quiet.
Kazama Tatsuya sighed, looking at the group with a grandfatherly indulgent gaze at his grandchildren: "Can’t help but give in to you... Ah, Roku, you’ve never handled a case in junior training, have you? Come on, let’s tackle it together tonight."
Ah, Roku? How mushy! Fushimi Roku got goosebumps. Before he could refuse, Kazama Tatsuya and Minamoto Tamako lifted him by arm each side.
"Since Sakurako wants to go, it’s up to you!" Both said in sync.
