Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner -
Chapter 110 - 32 Welcome Mother
Chapter 110: Chapter 32 Welcome Mother
Senior Watanabe has proactively gone out on patrol (slacking off), leaving Minamoto Tamako alone on the first floor of the precinct, making it the perfect time to sit down and write a heartfelt letter to her mother.
"Dear Mother,"
"How has your health been lately? Are you eating well? Even if work is busy, you must take care of your health. Your intelligent, obedient, and cute daughter is always thinking of you..."
Minamoto Tamako hesitated for a moment and crossed out the adjectives ’intelligent, obedient, and cute’ with her pen. But even with just a couple of strokes, you could still see what was written, so she simply blacked it out entirely to avoid displeasing her dear mother.
Hmm... What should I write next?
Minamoto Tamako sat in the office on the first floor, kicked off her shoes, and warmed her little feet by the heater. Using a writing board to support her paper, she pouted, balancing the ballpoint pen under her nose, and leaned back in her chair, staring blankly upwards.
Why not follow the usual practice of first praising her dear mother, letting her know what glorious deeds her daughter has done!
Inspired, Minamoto Tamako lowered her head and began to write fervently.
Although Kaga Keido has not yet officially announced it to the public, they are already wrapping up the case internally. She received a call from Kitahara Affairs Officer this morning and faxed over the recent investigation report and transcript.
——Detective Yuzi successfully solved the Sugamo Apartment Ghost Massacre case!
She recounted how, after encountering the ghostly figure in the apartment building, she quickly unraveled the mystery of the disappearing corridor and realized it was a pitiful woman.
The victim wandered aimlessly in the building but dared not approach Yasukawa Seiji’s room. As an officer, she executed justice with impartiality, but was obstructed by the detestable Detective Yamaguchi Takashi... At this point, she felt a bit guilty about speaking ill of others behind their backs, so she blacked out this section as well.
Fortunately, her efforts were not in vain. She convinced the superintendent with her charisma and speech, leading to an official investigation. Just as the dawn of victory was at hand, an unexpected turn of events occurred...
Writing this, Minamoto Tamako furrowed her brows. Immersing herself in her thoughts, she felt the gravity of the situation seep through her words.
...On the early morning of the day the police launched the investigation, a massacre happened at the Sugamo Apartment. Eighteen people, including the killer (crossed off) suspect Nagashima Takeshi, were killed. The building was filled with panic, and people whispered about a vengeful ghost...
And it was just the moment for your darling daughter to shine! As a patrol police officer, she had to ensure the peace of the area, and through relentless investigation, Officer Tamako discovered the truth was far from simple...
Minamoto Tamako only had suspicions that the case involved a gang cover-up and wasn’t sure about the details, leaving her unsure of how to continue her story. She wiggled her feet and brainstormed for a long time, piecing together bits from TV shows and novels until she concocted an action-packed story about a patrol officer charging into the Inakawa Association.
The more she wrote, the more carried away she became, veering the storyline in a bizarre direction:
"With a gun in each hand, Officer Tamako dodged bullets, shooting in midair with precision to knock the Yakuza’s bullets away. In a split second, she fired her last bullet to explode an oil drum, causing the criminals’ hideout to erupt in flames. With a graceful spin, Officer Tamako turned away from the inferno behind her..."
As she snapped back to reality, Minamoto Tamako realized that if a real explosion happened in Sugamo, her mother would definitely know. This was getting out of hand, so she blacked out the last few lines and revised the ending to somewhat of a happy end.
With that, it was time to get to the point.
Minamoto Tamako casually mentioned her predicament: during this series of incidents, an innocent child survived. As a patrol police officer, how could she stand idly by and watch a seven-year-old girl freeze on the street?
To ask for money, Minamoto Tamako exaggerated the situation just a tad... Surely Mama wouldn’t mind.
In the end, Minamoto Tamako wrote: "Your most considerate, understanding, and obedient daughter wants to ask for an advance on next month’s allowance. Not to eat desserts in Ginza, watch movies, or buy novels, but to help those truly in need!"
She let out a long breath, lifting the letter to admire her masterpiece with satisfaction.
Maybe when Mama receives this letter, she’ll frame it and hang it on the wall, glancing at it now and then, feeling genuinely proud of her daughter.
In which case, these letters will surely be passed down through generations, much like family letters from prominent households, eventually included in national language textbooks for future middle school students to write essays appreciating the sincere emotions expressed here, reflecting Officer Tamako’s encounter with harsh realities, and illustrating the humble history of contemporary grassroots officers compelled to bow to financial pressures...
Simply perfect!
Except there were too many blacked-out sections on the letter; at first glance, it looked like a mess of black splotches. Minamoto Tamako considered buying a bottle of correction fluid to cover it up, but then felt that the white gaps felt less comfortable to read. Perhaps the blacked-out traces should stay, giving it an air of a top-secret document.
Once she finished, she sealed the letter, licked the stamp with her pink tongue, affixed it to the envelope, and neatly wrote the recipient’s name, address, and postal code. She put on her shoes and went out to drop it in the red mailbox at the end of the street.
Mission accomplished, now just waiting for the money to arrive.
After returning to the precinct, Minamoto Tamako finally had some rare downtime. She had a good sleep last night, but couldn’t fall asleep during the day, and had to go on patrol again at night. Her biological clock was as disrupted as the security in Sugamo.
With no tasks at hand, she could only nap. She would be up for an overnight patrol tonight, so getting some rest now was crucial to avoid losing more height due to sleep deprivation.
The room upstairs was occupied by Taira Sakurako, so Minamoto Tamako crawled under the desk, commandeered Senior Watanabe’s little lounge chair, covered herself with a blanket, and closed her eyes.
A day passed without noteworthy events.
Even with incidents like falling deaths, massacres, and gang fights in the neighborhood, the patrol police at the station must still continue their usual patrols. As night fell, the officers at the stand-in precinct were awakened by the blaring sound of a loudspeaker before they could sleep enough.
"Wake up, everyone! Hurry up, hurry up! No slacking off tonight, everyone must be present!"
Minamoto Tamako groggily lifted her head to see Inspector Moriyama Yasurou holding a white loudspeaker, with one hand on his hip, briskly pushing through the door: "Get the office cleaned up... huh?! Did I walk into the wrong precinct?"
Before Minamoto Tamako could ask what was going on, Moriyama Yasurou was already clomping up the stairs in his high boots, using the loudspeaker to call down Fushimi Roku and Kazama Tatsuya.
The two groggily got up, put on their police jackets, and sluggishly made their way downstairs. Kazama Tatsuya glanced at his watch, frowning and muttering, "Isn’t it still before office hours?"
"There’s more important work tonight, no patrol," Moriyama Yasurou told them with a serious face: "Snap out of it, and don’t look like you’ve overindulged! Where’s Watanabe? Didn’t you say on the phone he was okay? If he’s okay, why isn’t he at work?"
"Reporting to the Inspector, he went out on patrol!" Minamoto Tamako raised her hand.
Moriyama Yasurou turned around with a bright smile, his tone instantly softened by eight degrees as he addressed Minamoto Tamako: "Oh, is that so?! Tamako, how are you finding your work at the precinct lately?"
"It’s, it’s quite good..." Minamoto Tamako shrank her neck, feeling that the Inspector was acting strange.
"Hmm? Are you generally satisfied? What do you think of my treatment of you?" continued Moriyama Yasurou.
"Satisfied, satisfied, Inspector is very good to me." Minamoto Tamako had just enough social intelligence to respond.
Upon hearing the desired answer, Moriyama Yasurou nodded, raised the loudspeaker, and announced loudly to everyone:
"The Police Department is very concerned about the recent surge in Sugamo crimes and the decline in security level. I just received a notice that a Police Chief will personally inspect the stand-in precinct tonight, which will determine the precinct’s funding and your year-end bonuses, so everyone, pull yourselves together to welcome the chief!!"
